Chapter 232 - Chapter 232: There’s a Gift for You in the Vault!

Two police cars pulled up behind and in front, boxing Holmeska's car in from both ends. A few enforcers got out and knocked on his driver's side window.

"Sir, you were speeding and racing on public roads. Please show us your ID."

When it rains, it pours. He didn't catch Kaitō Kid, and now he might get booked for reckless driving.

Holmeska's face looked as bad as it could get. Furious, he handed over his ID to the officer.

Meanwhile, after shaking off Holmeska, Zhang Yang chuckled smugly and sped off.

He took a photo of the Eastern Zhou Golden Sword Hilt and uploaded it to his feed.

At the same time, he passed a message to Victor and Harrison about what was waiting in the museum vault.

"Director Victor, I've left you a little gift in the museum vault. Hope you like it."

That was all he said. As for the fake Kaitō Kid and his two teammates, Zhang Yang left that to Victor to uncover when he finally came to his senses and returned to the museum. Once they caught those two, everything would become clear.

If Victor couldn't even get a confession out of them, Zhang Yang really didn't know how else to help them.

"Poor Harrison. He must've been ambushed."

Of the three—Harrison, Bruce, and Victor—Zhang Yang figured Victor was the least capable.

Bruce hadn't shown up tonight. Harrison was the only one on scene and still got taken out.

That tranquilizer dart stuck in Harrison's back made it easy to figure out the attack angle.

As soon as the post went up, the internet exploded.

"A gift? Kaitō Kid left something in the museum again?"

"Hahaha! What's it this time?"

"Victor is useless. Doesn't he feel ashamed at all?"

"Are there more fugitives in France? Things are getting wild lately!"

"France has nothing to worry about. Kaitō Kid will clean it all up anyway!"

Victor, still chasing after the fake Kaitō Kid, had no idea what was happening back at the museum—or that Zhang Yang had just posted something new.

Up ahead, the fake Kaitō Kid was losing patience. The helicopter above them was also running low on fuel.

"Damn it. Haven't they finished yet?"

"If this drags on, backup from the Enforcement Bureau will show up any second."

The fake Kaitō Kid, Rubio, was visibly anxious. He grabbed the radio and roared into it.

A woman's voice answered shortly after.

"Rubio, we're running out of fuel too!"

"That's enough. Let's move according to plan. We're pulling out!"

The helicopter in the night sky turned around and flew off in a different direction.

Rubio, the fake Kaitō Kid, glanced up at the departing aircraft and pressed a modified button in the car.

Spikes poured out of the rear bumper, scattering more than a hundred across the road.

Victor's cars drove right over them. Tires blew out, vehicles spun out of control, and everything crashed into a tangled mess.

Rubio glanced at his rearview mirror and laughed arrogantly before speeding off into the night.

Victor got out and saw the road full of spikes. His rage flared instantly.

"Fuck!"

"This is bullshit!"

Just as he was about to call the Enforcement Bureau to set up roadblocks, his boss called first.

Victor answered, only to get chewed out before he could say a word.

He was already fuming. Now getting yelled at for no reason just made things worse.

"Kaitō Kid slipped right past us! There's no way he had time to sneak into the museum!"

"I almost had him! If you weren't sitting on your ass, I would've caught him already!"

His superior barked over the phone, "Oh my dear Director Victor, why don't you go check Kaitō Kid's latest post?"

"Or better yet, why don't you go back to the museum and see what the hell happened there?"

Right after that, his superior hung up.

Victor stared in the direction the vehicle had disappeared, completely dazed.

From the moment Rubio showed up at the museum entrance until just a minute ago, he had never left Victor's line of sight.

But Victor had no idea Rubio was a fake Kaitō Kid. Even more so, he had no clue that Kaitō Kid wasn't the only one targeting the museum tonight—there was a whole other theft crew involved.

When Victor saw Zhang Yang's new post—the Eastern Zhou Golden Sword Hilt sitting in a black case—his mind went blank. His head buzzed.

"Shit! What the hell is going on?"

"How did he get the artifact? When did he get into the museum?"

Victor stood there in shock, a hundred questions crashing into each other in his head, none of them making sense.

Rubio's appearance had completely trapped Victor in a dead-end of flawed logic. No wonder he was so confused.

And when Victor read the mocking comments below the post, he started shaking with rage.

"Victor hasn't returned to the museum since he left. What a joke!"

"Hahaha, Kaitō Kid shook him off in five minutes. Maybe Victor's lost in France somewhere!"

"Oh my god! What kind of gift did Kaitō Kid leave in the museum vault?"

"Shit! Victor's failed so many times. Hasn't the Enforcement Bureau thought about replacing him?"

"Wanna bet Kaitō Kid found a wanted criminal and locked them in the vault again?"

Victor dreamed of catching Kaitō Kid. He wanted glory. He wanted fame.

But now the comment section was ripping him apart, every line cutting deep.

"Goddamn it! I'll see exactly what kind of trick Kaitō Kid's playing!"

Victor found one of the few functioning Enforcement Bureau vehicles, whipped it around, and sped straight back to the museum.

There was still a huge crowd out front. Reporters were standing by, cameras ready.

Harrison hadn't come out, and Victor still hadn't returned until now.

The outcome was already clear, but the mystery of the night hadn't been fully explained.

"Kaitō Kid's been gone for ages. What are Harrison and the others still doing in there?"

"God, don't tell me they haven't figured out Kaitō Kid already left!"

"Where the hell is Victor? Is the Enforcement Bureau that desperate they're sending him to catch Kaitō Kid?"

"Oh my god! Kaitō Kid just stole artifacts from the British Museum. This could get really bad!"

"Tsk tsk tsk, what a wild night. I almost couldn't keep up with it all!"

As the crowd buzzed, an Enforcement Bureau vehicle came speeding up and screeched to a stop in front of the museum.

Victor jumped out, furious, and stormed inside.

Upstairs on the second floor, the enforcers and agents had just carried Harrison out.

When Victor saw Harrison lying on the floor, his eyes went wide.

"Shit! What happened?"

"What's wrong with Harrison?"

An agent handed him a tranquilizer dart.

"Director Harrison was hit with a tranquilizer gun. He still hasn't woken up."
