Chapter 34 - 34: Ocean

"Let's explore the ocean!"

They packed their gear swiftly, and Mewtwo's eyes glowed as she formed a psychic barrier, a shining orb encasing them all. Vaporeon stayed inside, as Ryn told her they were going for a deep dive, inside she will be safe from the ocean's pressure.

They flew into the sky, the wind rushing past, and slowly submerged into the water after finding a good spot.

The sea sparkled at first, alive with movement.

Magikarp darted through shallow currents, their orange bodies weaving in tight schools.

Goldeen glided gracefully, their horned heads slicing the water, tails flicking in sync.

Psyduck bobbed clumsily, splashing as they ducked under waves, confused but playful.

Corsola nestled among rocky patches, their pink branches swaying gently with the current.

* This place is so good * Jolteon thought, her fur prickling with awe as she watched from the orb.

Charmeleon's tail flame flickered, her eyes wide. * I would have never imagined how an ocean looks without Ryn * she thought, grateful he chose her first over other trainers.

Meowscarada, * So full of life * she thought, gazing at the vibrant scene.

Scyther's wings hummed softly. * This is wild * she thought.

Deeper they went, the water turned shadowy blue.

Seaweed swayed like a ghostly curtain, hiding Horsea and Seadra in its folds.

A Wailmer drifted past, its bulk stirring gentle waves.

Starmie spun, their red cores glowing against the dim rocks.

Outside, a Horsea sneezed, puffing out a tiny cloud of ink that startled a nearby Seadra, making it dart into the seaweed with a flustered squeak. * That's adorable * Meowscarada thought, stifling a giggle inside the orb.

They reached a trench, the ocean floor sloping forward and down, like sliding toward a deeper pit.

The pressure grew, the environment now truly dark, lit only by their orb's light.

Ryn glanced at Mewtwo. "Can you remove the glow around us and make small balls of light ahead, maybe ten meters, so we can see without stumbling into danger?" he asked.

She nodded, sending two glowing orbs forward, their faint light visible only from inside to avoid attention.

The deeper zone revealed Chinchou flickering like lanterns, their glow catching Clamperl on jagged rocks.

A Huntail slithered through a narrow crevice, its eel-like body twisting.

A Gorebyss glided, its form swaying with the current.

* These are my kind * Vaporeon thought, amazed, having never ventured into the ocean, always staying in rivers.

Further down, the trench steepened, like dropping into a void, though it was just deeper water.

The pressure intensified, the darkness nearly total.

Relicanth crawled along the sediment floor, its ancient scales glinting.

A Cloyster's spiked shell gleamed in the faint light.

* This place feels heavy * Scyther thought.

The mood shifted from awe to unease as the water grew colder and darker around the psychic barrier.

A massive Tentacruel lunged forward, its tentacles slamming against the orb, scraping with hungry force, trying to drag them toward a gaping, toothy mouth in the depths below.

* I must hold it steady * Mewtwo thought, her psychic energy surging to reinforce the barrier.

She focused, eyes blazing, and teleported the orb a short distance away, narrowly escaping the Tentacruel's pull as its jaws snapped shut in the dark.

Everyone breathed in relief, the Tentacruel's threat left behind.

As they moved forward, a swarm of Qwilfish darted around, their spiked bodies circling the orb warily.

They soon passed the Qwilfish territory, entering a darker, stranger zone.

Unfamiliar Pokémon appeared, unlike any in Ryn's Pokédex, unknown even from anime or games. * What are these species * Ryn thought, his heart racing.

A jellyfish-like creature with pulsing red eyes drifted close, its tendrils twitching, showing sharp teeth glowing as it pressed against the shield.

* Too creepy * Ryn and his Pokémon thought.

Mewtwo's eyes flared, her psychic power surging. She pushed the creature back with a telekinetic burst and swiftly moved the orb away from the eerie zone.

They reached another drop, the water plunging deeper, like a cliff's edge.

A haunting sad voice echoed through the dark, deep and resonant, like a massive sea creature's call from an old tale.

* Is someone out there * Ryn thought, curiosity pushing past his fear. "Mewtwo, follow that sound," he said.

The orb drifted toward the voice, the water growing murkier.

They reached a deeper part, where a golden gate glowed faintly, the haunting sad voice emanating from it.

* Is this gate trapping some ancient Pokémon * Ryn thought, confused by its presence.

"Mewtwo, let's leave. This feels bad," he said, his voice uneasy.

Mewtwo nodded, steering the orb backward, but the gate creaked open, a swirling vortex, a whirlpool, sucking water inward.

Ryn's eyes widened. "What's going on?" he asked, his tone worried.

"I don't know, Ryn," Mewtwo replied, her voice tight, "but this whirlpool's pulling us in, too strong." Her psychic energy flared, the barrier shaking as she fought the current, ripples distorting the water around them.

Ryn's hands shook as he grabbed his Pokéballs. "Everyone, return!" he shouted, recalling Jolteon, Vaporeon, Charmeleon, Scyther, and Meowscarada in a flash. The orb shrank, the water pressing closer, only Ryn and Mewtwo left.

Mewtwo shifted into her Mega Y form, her sleek frame glowing. "I'll teleport us!" she said. The whirlpool warped the space, her attempt fading into sparks. "It's not working!" she yelled, her voice sharp as she used her full power, but it was nothing against the whirlpool. * What is this force * she thought, wondering at its strength.

The vortex roared, dragging them in, the golden gate slamming shut behind them. Their bodies tingled, as if compressed and pulled through a narrow passage, the sensation odd as they were drawn in.
