Chapter 109: Water Fish Pokémon [Bonus]

~Azure S. POV~

[Johto Region, Next Day, New Bark Town – Outskirts]

Argh… groaning about my blunder yesterday. I realized I left my main team back with Prof. Oak, and it was too late to get them back. Fine, fine. Improvise it, then.

Waking up from my sleeping bag, I gazed over my team. Pikachu and Eevee were happily sleeping together near me.

Larvitar happily snuggled close to me. And Misdreavus is in my shadow, feeling a light chill in my body.

Waking up, I prepared everyone their breakfast as they steadily got up. They're eyes beamed at the food as they went ahead to eat, and I did the same, making my breakfast to enjoy.

While doing this, I checked on my Sub-Space, retrieving two items needed for Misdreavus and Larvitar. Their own held items, as I checked the panel of the held items, as I bought them from Alola.

[Item: Muscle Band

Rarity Item: A

Type: Held Item

Description: An item to be held by a Pokémon. This headband exudes strength, slightly boosting the power of the holder's physical moves by 10%.]

[Item: Wise Glasses

Rarity Item: A

Type: Held Item

Description: An item to be held by a Pokémon. This thick pair of glasses slightly boosts the power of the holder's special moves by 10%.]

The Muscle Band and Wise Glasses. These two are perfect for Larvitar and Misdreavus as they specialize in their focused stats advantage of physical and special attack.

Having these items on hand, I called out to both, getting their attention as I said in an excited tone, "Misdreavus. Larvitar. I have something for both of you to use in future battles ahead. A Wise Glasses to your special attack boost Misdreavus. And for you, little buddy, a Muscle Band increases your physical attack."

Both eyes widened as Misdreavus grabbed the Wise Glasses using her hair, acting as hands. Placing it above her head, she cried out happily, "Mis! Misdreavus!"

Larvitar grabbed the Muscle Band, looking at it, childishly happy. He began to wrap it around his forehead like a bandana, crying out equally happy, "Lar! Larvitar!"

Smiling happily at them being happy, I got up and dressed for the day. Fully changed into my Trainer clothing, I recalled Larvitar as Pikachu and Eevee climbed over me as usual. As for Misdreavus went into my shadow, acting as my bodyguard.

She'll probably play pranks on the people around here. She was taught by Gengar after all, but with that out of the way and cleaning up my tent, it was time for me to start exploring New Bark Town!

~Third POV~

[Johto Region, Meanwhile, New Bark Town – Downtown]

After Joey spent a night at Gold's place, he explained to Gold that his backpack, which was stolen by a Murkrow, contains important documents that he needs to deliver to Professor Elm at Professor Oak's request.

Wanting to meet Professor Oak, Gold decides to tag along. On the way through downtown New Bark Town, Joey notices people greeting Gold as he couldn't help but mutter, "You're… so popular."

Gold smugly grins as he crosses his arms he saying proudly, walking downtown, "Well, yeah. Now let's get this bag to… huh?! What's going on?"

Gold and Joey stopped to see a commotion going on. They encounter a Bird Keeper who is making a show with his Hoothoot and Woopers as he said proudly, "Step right up for the Pokémon capture challenge!! I will release all these Pokémon, and if you can capture every one of them within 1 minute, you'll win a fabulous prize! This Hoothoot will tell when you're out of time! 100 Poke Per Try!!"

Joey comments, looking amazed by the Bird Keeper idea, as he said, "Using a Hoothoot is smart! Its internal clock is famous for always being perfect!"

However, Gold cuts Joey off by saying bluntly, "Except he's using it to cheat!"

Joey was shocked as Gold told him to watch. They watched how the Bird Keeper is scamming Trainers by challenging them to capture all his Pokémon in less than a minute. Instead of keeping honest track of the time, however, his Hoothoot just cries whenever a Trainer is about to win.

Gold, unable to resist a challenge, decides to try anyway as he says excitedly, "I'm going to clean that guy's clock!"

Before Gold could make his way to the Bird Keeper, someone beat him to it first. The figure was revealed to be Azure with Pikachu over his shoulder and Eevee on his head.

Approaching the Bird Keeper, he asked curiously, gazing at his Pokémon, analyzing them intently as he said, "Say, mister, I'll give this a go. And what's the prize if I win, capturing them under a minute?"

The Bird Keeper smirks, feeling confident of scaring Azure in front of him as he said proudly, puffing his chest out, "Heh. It's your money, kid, but say if you did win, I'll give you one of the Pokémon you caught along with the prize!"

Azure simply grinned, adjusting his cap as he said curiously, "Oh? I hope you'll keep your word."

As Azure prepares himself, he whispers to Misdreavus to hear, "Okay… Misdreavus use Confuse Ray on Hoothoot."

Feeling an understanding, the Bird Keeper announces, "Start!!"

*Vsh*

The Woopers began to jump off being released, crawling around. Without a second, Azure tossed his Poke balls, capturing them in quick succession.

*BON*

*BON*

*BON*

As he does so, Misdreavus sneaks over to Hoothoot's shadow. Feeling a chill, she turned to see Misdreavus as her eyes glowed, activating Confuse Ray, whispering as all eyes were on Azure's performance.

The Bird Keeper, seeing that Azure is clearing the game he gritted his teeth as he thought nervously, glancing at his Hoothoot, 'Hmm… this kid's pretty good… okay, Hoothoot! Time for a little premature hooting!'

*Duhh*

*Uhh*

But the Bird Keeper's expression shifted to shock, seeing that Hoothoot was confused. And before he knew it…

*BON*

Azure captured all the Wooper in under a minute, releasing all but one of them. Turning to the Bird Keeper, looking nervous, he asked calmly, "Yay! I won! So besides me keeping this Wooper, you gonna hand over the fabulous prize?"

The Bird Keeper poacher froze as he stuttered as he slowly backed things up, "Uh… time for me to go home!"

*Zip*

He hightailed it out of there, making the people realize they were scammed by him. Azure merely shook his head as he looked at Wooper in his Poke Ball, talking to it, "Sigh… figured as much. What about you, little guy, like to tag along on my journey?"

*Pop*

Holding Wooper in his hand using his Viridian Force Telekinesis, Pikachu and Eevee blinked, seeing Wooper for the first time, eyeing it. Wooper is a mostly blue, amphibious Pokémon that resembles an upright, armless axolotl.

Wooper's head is large compared to its body, and it has small, round, black eyes. It has purple, branching gills on either side of its head; the males have more branches in their gills than the females. Wooper stands on two small, round feet, and it has a large, thick tail. On its belly are dark blue curved markings.

Both blinked as they looked at Azure as they cried out, baffled, "Pi? Bui? (Are you serious? Really?)"

Seeing their doubtful expressions, Azure reassured them as he handed Wooper a Water-type Poke Block, asking happily, "I can see your points. But trust me, this guy is gonna be strong. Say, Wooper, you want to tag along with me as my Pokémon through the Johto Region?"

*Gulp*

Eating the Poke Block, Wooper wagged its tail excitedly. Gazing at Azure, it nodded its head with an excited cry, "Woooopa!"

Grinning Azure fed Wooper another Poke Block, much to the Water Fish Pokémon's enjoyment. Taking the chance, Azure held his Arc Phone, scanning its status.

[Wooper the Water Fish Pokémon. Wooper is a dull-witted Pokémon oblivious to its surroundings. Wooper lives in cold water most of the time. When sleeping, it partially buries itself in the mud at the bottom.

It will occasionally leave the water when the air cools in the evening to search for food along the shore. While walking on land, it coats its body with a slimy, toxic film that keeps its skin from dehydrating and insulates against the cold. The film causes a shooting pain if touched barehanded.

It is a timid Pokémon and tends to stay close to Quagsire. Arbok is a natural predator of Wooper. Wooper tends to bury half its body in the mud at the bottom of the water to sleep. When Wooper also does this while sleeping on land. By sleeping in the mud on land, Wooper can keep its skin wet and prevent dehydration.]

|Name: Wooper (Water Fish Pokémon)

|Type: Water/Ground

|Level: 12

|Gender: Male

|Held Item: None

|Ability: Water Absorb

|Nature: Relaxed

|Moves: Tail Whip, Water Gun, Mud Sport, Mud Shot, Slam, Rain Dance, Haze, Mist, Recover (EM) (2 Moves left to learn)

Azure grinned, reading its status, noticing it has the Egg Move Recover and it's a Relaxed nature. He grinned excitedly at this prospect as the Relaxed Nature increases a Pokémon's natural physical defense, but in sacrifice of speed.

With the Bird Keeper gone because of his scam, the crowd dissipates, and Gold realizes his backpack is missing. Due to being too focused on seeing the game like the crowd, Gold and Joey hadn't realized that their bag had been stolen.

Joey deduces that because Gold's backpack is filled with Poké Balls just like his, the thief must have mistaken Gold's backpack for Joey's and taken it in error. Gold and Joey head for Professor Elm's lab in search of the thief.

Spending some time knowing Wooper Azure recalled it back into its Poke Ball. He then turned his direction to Elm's Lab.

[Johto Region, New Bark Town – Eastern Outskirts, Elm's Lab]

Meanwhile, a mysterious character sneaks into Elm's lab, knocking on the door. Elm turned, hearing the sound as he asked, "?! Joey, is that you?!"

On his shoulder was a Sentret. Sentret is a small mammalian Pokémon covered in brown fur. It has long, dark brown ears with dark pink interiors, beady black eyes, and a small mouth.

While it can stand on its hind legs, it typically moves on all fours. It has a round body with wide arms and two small feet. On its belly is a white ring, and there are dark brown stripes around its tail.

*Keee*

Professor Elm turned to open the door, supposedly greeting Joey as he said happily, "That was quick! What did Professor Oak say? Joey…?"

However, when he opened the door, there was no one waiting outside. He then turned to his Sentret as he asked confused, "I could have sworn I heard the door open… oh well…"

*SLAM*

Slamming the door behind him, he returned to his research. Meanwhile, a mysterious character was lurking in the shadows and hanging from the ceiling, eyeing the Johto Trio of the Johto Region…
