"Not for now. But no matter how powerful or wealthy Gilbert Watson may be, he can't buy the bond between me and my children," Claire said quietly, her voice tinged with resignation. "We'll take it one step at a time."
"Is your ex-husband married?" came the next question.
"No. But it doesn't really matter. He's always had a woman by his side. They've lived together for years and even have a daughter. The only thing missing is a marriage certificate."
Gilbert clenched his jaw.
So that was how she saw his relationship with Emma?
Did he really come across as someone in love with her?
Sure, they lived under the same roof, but that was only for the children's sake. Even the idea of marriage had been for appearances. There was no intimacy between them.
"What about you?" he asked. "Do you have a boyfriend?"
"No."
A flicker of something unreadable passed through Gilbert's eyes as he stared at the screen.
"Why not?"
