The words were not loud. They went through the guards like a quiet thunder. Some of the guards became still. One of the guards tried to hide a smile but another guard could not hide his smile at all his shoulders went up with pride that he could not hide. The guards looked at each other the way that boys share secrets in their classroom. They looked quickly they felt guilty. They felt very excited. The guards exchanged these looks because of the words, the words that were, like a thunder.
The older guard cleared his throat. Stood up straight. He was a soldier. He wanted to look like one. The older guard delivered his salute. This time he did it just right without any of the uncertainty he had before. The older guard was trying to show that he was, in control again.
"Yes, my Lord! This way."
