A Visitor Cloaked in Familiar Darkness
The woman lifted the lid.
The smell hit me first. It was really bad. The smell was stale and sour. It was almost rotten. This smell came out of the tray. It seemed like the smell was something that was crawling out of the tray. The smell of something sour and almost rotten was very strong.
Inside the place there was no celebration with lots of food. They did not even have a meal that would be good enough for the person who does the lowest job, in the kitchen.
This fruit was all. Had black and brown marks on it. It was sitting against some vegetables that looked like they had been left in a damp place for too long. They were scraps, things that people did not want. They were, like the garbage that you throw away. Someone had given these things to the woman like she was not a person like she was nothing at all. The woman was treated badly given food that was not good to eat like the bruised fruit and the old vegetables.
