Chapter 102 - CHAPTER 103

c103: Ash's Fishing Harvest! !

Scatter nesting materials, attach bait, and cast the hook.

While the other students remained uneasy and showed little enthusiasm after the Gyarados incident, Ash calmly began his own fishing activity with practiced ease.

Simultaneously, he activated his waveguide powers his unique aura-based ability developed recently quietly scanning the water for the presence of the same Gyarados that had previously cooperated with him. This was the Gyarados that helped execute his plan against Goh, resulting in Goh's serious injuries.

Unlike Gary, who joked about catching a common Magikarp or a Goldeen, Ash had no interest in such basic Water-types. He knew that most students would likely only hook average Pokémon, and that the grading criteria based on total volume and weight of the catch would place them all in similar scoring tiers.

But Ash wasn't aiming for a mid-range result.

He wanted an overwhelming score, something that would cement his position at the top of the summer camp rankings. So instead of casting randomly, Ash focused his waveguide senses, zeroing in on Gyarados the same one he had bonded with temporarily and decided to make him the centerpiece of his catch.

This plan had been prearranged. Gyarados would appear at Ash's signal and allow itself to be caught, fulfilling their agreement.

Pidgeotto, Ash's aerial partner and an expert at reconnaissance, helped him scan the lake at the valley camp's center. It took less than a minute for Ash to lock onto Gyarados's current position.

"Gyarados, we've relocated to the nearby stream. Head over now and bring at least five large-bodied Water-type Pokémon with you," Ash transmitted through waveguide.

"Once our agreement is fulfilled, I'll help enhance your natural abilities and use my Psychic and aura skills to heal the residual damage from your aggressive evolution."

"Rrraaaahh!" From deep within the secluded lake, Gyarados responded with a low, affirmative roar, then immediately began rounding up the larger aquatic Pokémon that lived undisturbed in the lake's deeper regions.

Though the Pokémon League's ranger patrol conducted regular sweeps of the forest surrounding the Pallet Valley Camp, their inspections of aquatic areas creeks, rivers, and lakes were typically less thorough. Water Pokémon didn't often leave their habitat and posed a smaller threat to campers, so these zones remained largely undisturbed.

As a result, many strong, large aquatic species including evolved forms continued to thrive in those overlooked areas.

Now, under Ash's waveguide directive, Gyarados herded a group of hefty Water-types from the lake and led them subtly toward the stream where the students were currently fishing.

Whether it was sheer luck or the balance of fortune shifting after Goh's misfortune, a sudden change swept through the riverside camp.

One by one, students began hooking Water-type Pokémon.and not just a few of them. Within minutes, numerous campers had reeled in catches, surprising even the instructors. Excitement surged as the shoreline buzzed with cries of joy and awe.

The somber air from earlier was replaced by exhilaration. Cheers echoed along the banks as students competed to pull in the heaviest or most unique Pokémon.

Gary, Shauna (Xiaolan), Serena (Ser Lena), Tierno (Tieruno), and Trevor all managed to land Pokémon as well mostly Magikarp or Goldeen, consistent with what could normally be expected in such a location.

Though none of them openly acknowledged it, several of Ash's close friends suspected something was off. The sudden abundance of large Pokémon near the fishing area felt... orchestrated.

Still, even if Ash had quietly arranged for a more dramatic selection, the others didn't mind. They knew these Pokémon despite being relatively large wouldn't rank high in the final scoring.

After measuring the body size and weight of their catches, and documenting the results with the camp staff, Gary and the others graciously fed the Pokémon some standard PokéPuffs and PokéChow, and then released them back into the stream.

Ash also had a Water-type Pokémon take his bait. Thanks to his use of a custom-formulated lure one developed with insights gained from his time observing Professor Oak's research Ash maintained the highest hook rate among all participating students.

Though Gyarados remained his ultimate target, Ash did not immediately attempt to subdue any of the Pokémon currently biting his line. Still, his attitude contrasted notably with Gary's laid-back demeanor and Mikey's inexperience.

Even if most of these were common Pokémon like Magikarp and Goldeen, Ash regarded them with genuine excitement and appreciation, as though each one were a rare gem.

Although none were rare evolutions or battle powerhouses, Ash was thrilled. For him, this was the first time fishing in the Pokémon world and every catch marked both a symbolic and strategic milestone.

Beyond the sheer enjoyment, each successful capture allowed Ash to duplicate the Pokémon's skills into his growing personal skill archive. Additionally, when he imbued these Pokémon with the purified power of Viridian, it caused the latent "Rock Essence" energy in his own body to surge and awaken further.

Adding this to his already significant gains from yesterday's forest excursion and the day's Water-type captures, Ash's internal reserve of Viridian power had now quietly doubled in strength far surpassing his current waveguide energy.

This was unexpected.

Previously, when Ash discovered that his Calm Mind training method "Listening to the Voice of All Things" only accelerated the development of waveguide power, he had been uncertain about how to cultivate the Viridian force within him.

But now, the power of Viridian though not directly increasing his battle strength like waveguide or Psychic provided unparalleled advantages. The built-in healing capabilities, natural affinity with Pokémon, purification properties, and mental fortitude it offered were invaluable.

In truth, it was Viridian that had done more to push Ash toward his dream of becoming the world's strongest Trainer than his aura or even his recently awakened Psychic gifts.

"Hey!" Over ten minutes later, just as most of the students had captured and registered their Pokémon, Gyarados finally arrived at the stream. With him were several large Water-types prime examples of Pokémon that had previously escaped ranger patrol detection.

Receiving a telepathic report via Pidgeotto's aerial observation, Ash, seated calmly on the riverbank like a general surveying a battlefield, allowed himself a subtle, satisfied smile.

"Gyarados," he transmitted via waveguide, "guide those two oversized Magikarp toward the twin lures blue and yellow placed about two meters to your left front."

"Rooaaar!" Gyarados, acknowledging the command, turned toward the two bulky Magikarp following him. With a low snarl, he directed them toward the marked targets.

The pair of Magikarp obeyed without hesitation, darting forward to snap onto the artificial bait, just as instructed.

"Whoa!! Another Water-type took my line! This one's heavy could this be my big catch of the day?!"

"Mine too! This one's crazy strong!" came the excited voices of Tierno and Trevor.

These were no ordinary Magikarp.

Ash had intentionally assigned each of them a prize specimen both nearly double the average size of a standard Magikarp, with significantly higher body mass indexes.

With these catches, Tierno and Trevor were guaranteed to outperform most of the other students in the summer camp's Water Pokémon fishing assessment easily securing a place in the top three.

Just as planned, as Ash gave the signal, the Magikarp offered little resistance, allowing themselves to be hooked and captured cleanly.

It was yet another flawless execution by Ash and Gyarados each move designed not only to help his friends but to shape outcomes with precision.
