Chapter 101 - CHAPTER 102

c102: Oak's Admiration for Ash!!

"Ash!! Ash, are you okay"

"How are you, Ash?"

"Ash, I made some honey grapefruit tea this morning have some to restore your energy."

"I brought a chocolate bar too, here!"

As the injured Goh (Xiao Hao) was carried into the ambulance, only Ash physically and mentally drained from using his newly awakened abilities remained in the open space beside the Viridian River.

Noticing Ash's pale and fatigued expression, Gary Oak, Blue (Xiaolan), and Serena (Ser Lena), who had finally recovered from the shock, rushed over. Around them, the other Pallet Town summer camp students many of whom had seen Ash's aura abilities firsthand gathered quickly, offering water, snacks, and comfort.

Under the care and concern of his peers, Ash gradually recovered his strength and composure after a ten-minute rest, his body no longer trembling with exertion.

Looking into their worried eyes, Ash was genuinely touched but deep down, his competitive spirit remained unshaken. He had not forgotten his resolve to become the Excellent Student of the Summer Camp and to help Gary and Serena place in the top three rankings.

With Gary's steadying support, Ash slowly stood up, looking at the group of well-meaning, wide-eyed students who had come to his aid, and bowed deeply in sincere gratitude.

"Thank you all so much for your help just now~" Ash said warmly. Though he intended to compete fiercely in the rankings and typically prioritized those closest to him like Misty or Brock this moment was about humility, not rivalry.

Accepting kindness and giving thanks, even to competitors, wasn't just etiquette to Ash. It was part of his unshakable personal code something Professor Oak had long admired about him.

"As you've just witnessed, I've recently awakened Psychic abilities. They're weak, and right now, all I can really do is accelerate healing."

"At present, my Psychic is most effective on Pokémon. For humans, it can slow bleeding or ease mild trauma, but it's not yet reliable for major wounds," Ash continued, candidly sharing what he'd discovered during training near the Viridian Forest, where residual aura had likely awakened his ability.

"So during the rest of summer camp, if either you or your Pokémon gets injured and you're too far from the Pokémon Center or infirmary, please don't hesitate to find me."

"I can use my Psychic to stabilize things temporarily, just enough for you to get proper treatment from Nurse Joy or the camp's medical staff."

Hearing Ash's sincere pledge, the other students' impressions of him shifted immediately. His honest and selfless nature, combined with a willingness to aid others despite being a top contender, made him a favorite among the group.

Even a few who had previously viewed him as a rival for first place in the camp rankings found their competitive drive softened by his attitude. This sense of camaraderie unforced and genuine spread through the crowd like wildfire.

From a distance, Professor Oak observed the scene quietly. The warmth in his expression was unmistakable he made no attempt to hide the admiration beaming in his eyes.

Ash was a trainer with natural talent, an unwavering work ethic, and a relentless ambition. But more importantly, he wasn't arrogant. He displayed genuine kindness toward Pokémon and compassion for people, even in the face of rivalry.

Now, with Psychic abilities even if currently limited to healing they only enhanced his already exceptional qualities.

In that moment, Oak's evaluation of Ash shifted to new heights beyond just being a strong battler or promising child from Pallet Town.

Before, Oak had believed Ash had the potential to become the world's strongest Trainer, someone whose personal strength would one day rival the likes of Lance or even Red.

But now, after watching Ash interact with his peers, Oak was convinced of something greater: Ash wasn't just destined to be powerful he was destined to be respected and beloved. A true great Trainer in every sense of the word.

"For Pallet Town to produce someone like him… it's truly our town's greatest blessing," Oak thought to himself, smiling with pride.

"Professor, is today's fishing activity still continuing? And what about that Gyarados?" With the confrontation between Goh (Xiaohao) and Ash temporarily resolved, Gang Ping the assistant researcher stepped forward to inquire.

"The fishing activity will proceed," Professor Oak replied calmly, his tone regaining authority. "But we won't be using this river anymore. We'll relocate the students to the alternate stream across the western forest. It's safer, and we'll resume there."

"Also, I'll notify the regional Ranger Patrol to handle the wild Gyarados. It needs to be subdued and then transported to the southern coast near Pallet Town. It's a danger in this freshwater environment, and that kind of aggression can't be ignored."

"During fishing from now on, strict supervision is essential," Oak added, directing his instructions to Neiping, another aide. "Ensure every student is monitored closely. We can't afford another incident."

Earlier, both Oak and Gang Ping had let their guard down. They had fished casually alongside the students, underestimating the risk. The sudden attack from a rampaging Gyarados a Water/Flying-type known for its berserk nature in the wild was a serious oversight.

"Yes, Professor!" Gang Ping responded firmly, then quickly turned to gather the students, signaling the transition to a new fishing site.

Over ten minutes later, under Oak's leadership and the assistance of Gang Ping, Sophie, and several staff members, the group crossed the woodland trail and arrived at a tranquil, narrower stream far from the previous chaos to continue the activity.

However, the earlier incident had clearly left a mark. Goh had been gravely wounded by the Gyarados though it didn't faint him outright, the injuries were severe enough that his participation in the summer camp was now uncertain.

In the aftermath, the once-cheerful campers stood hesitantly by the stream's edge. Their earlier enthusiasm for fishing had cooled, replaced by caution and watchfulness.

But Ash didn't share that anxiety.

1.) While Gyarados hadn't technically knocked Goh out cold, the severe injury was enough to likely disqualify him from the remainder of the summer camp. To Ash, this was an optimal outcome, and he was content with how things turned out.

2.) Earlier, Ash had closely observed Oak's Dragonite a Champion-class Pokémon known in the manga for using complex techniques like Draco Meteor and Hurricane. He had managed to mimic several high-level moves and typing strategies through his aura perception. This discovery thrilled him deeply.

3.) Most importantly, the "opportunity" created by Goh's injury allowed Ash to demonstrate his newfound Psychic ability. Oak, having witnessed it personally, would undoubtedly report this talent to the Kanto Alliance headquarters after the camp concluded.

Ash was confident the Pokémon League would take note adding him to their talent development registry, potentially fast-tracking him for elite training programs and granting him exclusive resources.

Until he reached full strength, Ash knew he had to borrow institutional power from the Alliance.

Even after reaching maturity, he would continue interacting with the League often. After all, the Pokémon League wasn't just a tournament host it functioned as a global governing body, overseeing trainer licenses, Gym standards, and regional stability.

While Ash hadn't made a firm decision to serve within the League in the future, he understood the benefits of earning their recognition. Being nurtured as a key talent was a strategic advantage he wasn't going to waste.

Besides, Ash—who now understood his unique role as a "son of the plane," a chosen protagonist under the favor of destiny knew that if he were ever to align with a major force, it could only be the Pokémon League. An organization rooted in order and ideals.

He could never truly belong to a chaotic underground group like Team Rocket. Should he turn toward such darkness, even his identity as the protagonist would not protect him. The world would turn against him, and he would ultimately be discarded by the very destiny that now favored him.
