"Kai…" Konan's voice was sharp with concern, her gaze fixed on him.
Kai, with a casual hand on her head, said, "Don't misunderstand. I only helped because of Konan." His tone hardened. "And you think the Rinnegan makes you invincible? That's a death wish."
The atmosphere shifted palpably. Yahiko and Nagato, momentarily speechless after Kai's generous display, now wore grim expressions. Kai's words had struck a nerve.
Their confidence in accepting Hanzo's offer stemmed entirely from Nagato's Rinnegan. They believed it surpassed even the Mangekyō Sharingan, especially given Nagato's recent, dramatic power surge. Yahiko envisioned Nagato, given time, surpassing even the Kage, perhaps even Hanzo himself. With such power, Hanzo would be inconsequential.
This was their reasoning for accepting Hanzo's invitation. But Kai had just shattered their carefully constructed confidence.
Nagato, his patience exhausted, spoke coldly. "Uchiha Kai, we know you're strong, but don't underestimate us."
"Yahiko and I together can handle Hanzo."
"Exactly. We're not the same as we were ten days ago. Don't underestimate us, or you'll regret it!" Yahiko added, his gaze challenging.
Kai's smile held a hint of mockery. "Seems you're overconfident. Looking for a beating?"
Nagato's face darkened. "Uchiha Kai, don't be arrogant."
"I'm not the same as I was ten days ago. In a real fight… the outcome is far from certain!"
"Yes, the Rinnegan's power isn't as simple as you think," Yahiko added urgently. Kai's dismissal of their decision was a profound insult.
"Let's fight, then. No more talk. But I suggest you both attack at once. It'll be more entertaining," Kai said, shrugging and stepping away from the group.
Konan's eyes widened, but Kai shook his head, a wry smile playing on his lips. "Some people need to learn the hard way. I'll try to be gentle."
"You!" Nagato's voice was tight with barely suppressed fury.
Kai ignored him, taking a step and instantly vanishing in a blinding flash of lightning—the unmistakable signature of Lightning Release Body Flicker. The air crackled with residual energy.
Before Yahiko and Nagato could react, Kai reappeared hundreds of meters away, calmly waiting. This casual display of superior speed left them both seething with barely controlled rage.
"Yahiko, let me teach him a lesson! He's too full of himself!" Nagato's face was grim, his body coiled and ready to spring.
Yahiko, however, held up a hand. "Don't be impulsive. He's the Blood-Red Asura. Two against one isn't shameful. We'll defeat him and show him we've improved!"
Nagato, his expression hardening, glared at Kai, clenching his fists. "Good."
"Attack!"
With a roar, Yahiko and Nagato vanished, reappearing dozens of meters away, flanking Kai in a perfectly coordinated assault. Their movements were a blur of motion.
Konan watched, a flicker of worry in her eyes. "I hope Nagato doesn't overuse the Rinnegan…"
"Or what?" Kimimaro's voice, surprisingly cold for his age, cut in. "Or will the Boss lose?"
"Don't be naive. They're improving, but the Boss is unfathomably strong."
Their hushed conversation was cut short by a roar.
"Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique!" Yahiko's hands moved with blinding speed, forming hand seals mid-movement. A massive fireball, thirteen or fourteen meters in diameter, erupted, hurtling towards Kai with terrifying speed.
The onlookers were stunned by the sheer, overwhelming power. Hatosuke, still smarting from his previous encounter with Kai, clenched his fists. "Impressive! That's easily A-rank!"
"Few in the shinobi world could master Fire Release to this degree…"
His praise, though seemingly biased, was echoed by Kosuke Maruboshi and the others. But their awe quickly turned to shock.
Kai, facing the oncoming fireball, formed a single hand seal with effortless grace. With a breath, a fiery maelstrom erupted, coalescing into a fireball far larger than Yahiko's—a monstrous sphere of raging inferno.
He met the attack head-on. The impact was devastating. Yahiko's fireball, supposedly A-rank, was crushed like paper. It might even be considered S-rank, given the sheer scale and destructive power.
BOOM!
The fireball shattered, scattering sparks. The remaining force, undiminished in its destructive potential, hurtled towards Yahiko.
"Water Release: Water Wall Technique!"
Nagato, though surprised by the sheer scale of Kai's counter-attack, swiftly formed hand seals, creating a massive water wall to shield Yahiko. The collision was imminent, promising a spectacular and potentially devastating conclusion.
