"I, Akatsuki Kojou, successor to the blood of Kaleid Blood, now release your constraints. Come... Fifth Familiar: Regulus-Aurum!"
Kojou's deep voice rang through the air like a heavy iron bell, shaking the entire island to its core. The sky dimmed for a moment, as if it had forgotten how to breathe, before his right arm turned pitch black. Scarlet lines burned through his skin like veins of fire. From his fingertips, thick, blood-colored steam began to rise, wrapping him in an ominous aura that screamed of something not belonging to this world.
ROAR!!
The roar that followed was earth-shattering, so deep that even the rocks seemed to tremble beneath it. The soundwaves blasted through the forest and along the shore, stirring up clouds of dust and sending birds fleeing in terrified flocks. Out of a burst of lightning emerged a colossal creature—an awe-inspiring lion, its golden fur shimmering like molten metal, surrounded by a storm of crackling electricity. With every step it took, the ground quaked beneath claws sharp as blades.
The aura it released was not mere power—it was ancient history made flesh, a primal weight that made the very air suffocating. Its hollow eyes—dead yet aware—fixed on its master, holding a silent question and a deep-rooted resentment for being summoned.
"Is this... what I think it is?" The words came from the lion's mouth, a human voice steeped in the raw texture of a beast, dripping with an ancient awareness that knew all too well that its presence here carried a price.
Kojou, utterly unfazed by the overwhelming sight, lifted his head with a goofy smile that didn't fit the moment at all and raised his thumb toward the mythical beast.
"Help me catch some fish."
The words were absurd, like a slap in the face of destiny. For a moment, the sheer contradiction was more terrifying than any roar.
Regulus-Aurum stared blankly at Kojou, as if the world itself had stopped for a breath, before letting out a long, deep sigh filled with quiet resignation. He moved slowly—each step sparking against the earth—until he reached the edge of the sea. Extending one massive claw over the salty water, arcs of lightning surged forth like living shadows, striking the waves with precise control, stunning the fish without killing them, and pulling them from the depths as if the entire ocean bowed to his will.
The glowing lightning lit the sea, bubbles rising in spirals that glittered like jewels with every touch of his claws. Kojou watched, eyes half-lidded and lips curved in quiet awe, as though summoning a divine beast for fishing was the most natural thing in the world.
The majestic lion, despite his godlike power, carried out the simple task with obedient grace, as though all the grandeur and pride of existence had been reduced to a humble fishing game under Kojou's command. The surreal mix of absurdity and majesty etched itself into the memory of anyone who could've seen it—a perfect blend of comedy and awe.
Soon, the sea began to boil softly. Countless bubbles rose from beneath the surface, followed by dozens of fish floating sideways, paralyzed yet alive. Regulus-Aurum had precisely controlled the lightning to merely stun them.
Seeing the catch, the golden lion withdrew his claw, casting a sidelong glance at his master—whose eyes sparkled with childlike excitement, as if he'd just succeeded at some grand experiment.
A faint smile crossed Regulus-Aurum's face before he vanished, returning to his master's body, strangely content—perhaps pleased that his master hadn't lost himself despite wielding the power of the world's strongest vampire.
Kojou didn't pay much attention to his familiar's departure. He was already eager to wade into the water and collect their dinner—but then, a shadow appeared before him.
"Are you alright, Akatsuki-senpai?!"
The shadow was none other than Touka, gripping her spear tightly as her eyes swept the surroundings, alert and ready for battle. "Where are the enemies, Senpai?"
Kojou blinked twice, slowly, as if processing her words took effort. Droplets of seawater dripped from his hair and shoulders as he raised the fish he'd just caught, glancing at it for a second before looking back at Touka with a calm smile.
"Enemies?" he repeated, voice utterly relaxed, then pointed at the small fish in his hand as if it were proof of innocence.
"There aren't any enemies… just dinner."
Touka stared at him, blinking rapidly, trying to decide if this was some new kind of joke—or if her Senpai had finally lost his mind. The air still smelled faintly of burnt ozone, and golden sparks continued to dance across the sea's surface—undeniable proof that something monumental had just occurred.
"Dinner…?" she echoed in a whisper, her gaze darting between the charged sky and the still-steaming sea.
"Don't tell me you used that power just to… fish?"
Kojou rubbed the back of his head, feigning embarrassment, a wide grin spreading across his face.
"Ah, well… from a certain point of view, it was a scientific experiment. I just wanted to make sure summoning Regulus wouldn't blow up the island."
Touka exhaled sharply, her tone a mix of anger and disbelief.
"An experiment?! Senpai, you released enough energy to level half the port! I thought an S-class attack had begun!"
"Well, nothing bad happened in the end, right?" Kojou said, gesturing at the pile of floating fish with a carefree smile.
"At least we've got dinner tonight."
Touka just stared at him for a long second, then slowly lowered her spear, sighing heavily—the sound of someone surrendering to logic she could never comprehend.
"You're… completely hopeless, Senpai."
Kojou chuckled softly, sitting down on a rock near the shore and reaching out to grab a few fish.
"Maybe. But at least I'm a useful Senpai when it's dinner time, right?"
Touka glanced at him from the corner of her eye, then flicked her hair back and muttered under her breath, so quietly he almost didn't hear:
"Useful… in the most unpredictable way possible."
