Chapter 63 - Chapter 63: Pandemonium on the Riverbank

Tokonosu City.

Tokonosu City was one of the most famous cities in Japan, renowned for the fertility of its soil and the abundance of job opportunities. Life in Tokonosu City had always been vibrant, with the population surpassing two million.

But this wasn't the only thing that made Tokonosu City famous—there was another reason: the Takagi Family, a yakuza clan, as well as the fact that many well-known politicians resided there. This gave the city significant popularity among the locals and also made it a major attraction for foreign tourists, boasting many sites that preserved historical heritage, along with the most beautiful sakura garden in all of Japan.

As such, Tokonosu City was always crowded, and today was no exception. People went about their daily work—a man running an auto repair garage, a regular office worker, a farmer, and so on—until certain individuals began to change. The light vanished from their eyes, drool dripped uncontrollably from their mouths as if they were mere children unable to control their own bodies, their skin turned a grayish hue, and their movements slowed noticeably.

At first, no one paid much attention to these subtle changes. And even if they did notice, they dismissed it as a movie shoot or assumed the person was simply exhausted. But then, without warning, these individuals began attacking others, biting them and causing strange bleeding in otherwise healthy victims—who, in turn, transformed into the same kind of creature that had bitten them.

It was a horrifying scene, as if it had leapt straight out of an apocalyptic horror movie in which zombies overrun the world—and it seemed this was exactly what was happening. Though many tried to deny it, the truth stood before them, undeniable.

The spread of zombies would not have been so terrifying if the source and cure were known—but it was something far more dreadful when both were a mystery, and no one had been warned about it. Within less than two hours, order collapsed, and chaos spread through every corner of Tokonosu City. No—this wasn't just Tokonosu City. News broadcasts showed similar scenes unfolding all over the world.

Despite disbelief and fear, people didn't hesitate to kill, steal, and commit countless shameful acts to survive. Their own lives were worth more than anything in this world where law and order had crumbled. Many surrendered to their darkest desires, killing, looting, and stealing—not for survival, but purely for pleasure and excitement.

Within mere hours, more than 90% of Tokonosu City's population had turned into zombies, wandering through the streets and spreading terror among the few survivors, who dared not leave their hiding places for fear of being killed by either the insane living or the moving corpses.

In this terrifying and tense atmosphere that blanketed the city, something even more frightening was taking place in a corner near the riverbank. Harsh sounds of smashing and shattering echoed sharply throughout the area.

Pang!

Crashed!

Cracked!

The sound of bones and skulls breaking rang out, mixed with the destruction of walls and buildings from time to time. The surviving residents felt a mix of fear and curiosity, peeking out from windows and balconies, only to regret their decision immediately.

Contrary to their expectations—expecting the army or the Self-Defense Forces to be purging the area of zombies to save them—what they saw instead was a savage man, tearing through terrifying zombies that had the strength of three to five grown men as if they were fragile children. He was drenched in blood from head to toe, making him look like a demon that had crawled out of purgatory, his features unrecognizable. Everything about him—his hair, clothes, and face—was stained crimson, and even his eyes glowed with a terrifying red.

"I didn't expect Kojou-san to suppress such murderous and destructive intent," muttered Akatsuki, who was observing Kojou from a rooftop. Kojou had told her a little about his condition beforehand and had instructed her to watch from afar—and not to hesitate to kill him if she saw him lose control.

Indeed, the terrifying, blood-drenched figure from head to toe was none other than Kojou, who had allowed the deepest urges of the Fourth Primogenitor—urges he had constantly suppressed—to break free, even as he struggled to maintain his sanity.

The pleasure and satisfaction seeping into every cell of his body brought Kojou to a state of euphoria, for the Fourth Primogenitor was a weapon that craved blood and destruction. Engaging in such acts made every fiber of his being tremble with joy, pushing his soul to the brink of ultimate ecstasy—a feeling Kojou had never expected, striking him suddenly and catching him off guard.

While Kojou had felt great pleasure in drinking blood and being with his women, that sensation was but a drop in the ocean compared to the bliss he felt now as he killed, destroyed, and crushed everything with his bare hands. The scent of blood and ruin filling the air stirred his soul, while the act of shattering and annihilating with his own strength sent waves of absolute delight through every cell. He could sense that his Familiars, too, were pleased to see their newly acknowledged master undergoing this baptism of blood and carnage.

Though Kojou tried to cling to the last shreds of his consciousness, each kill eroded it further, drowning it in an ocean of blood. The urge to stop faded instantly whenever it arose, smothered beneath the overwhelming pleasure and thrill of slaughter and destruction.
