Although their paths had crossed due to their association with Yoruichi Shihōin, the two captains shared no genuine personal connection.
Both being outwardly reserved and emotionally distant individuals, Suì-Fēng and Byakuya Kuchiki maintained a stony silence throughout their journey, resulting in an acutely awkward atmosphere.
Their respective vice-captains, Marechiyo Ōmaeda and Kuchiki Rukia, trailing behind, mirrored this awkwardness, their discomfort palpable under the weight of the intense silence.
In an attempt to alleviate the tension, the usually more jovial Ōmaeda prepared to speak, but before he could utter a word, Suì-Fēng's cold voice cut through the air, "Ōmaeda, be quiet!"
Ōmaeda's words were abruptly stifled, the already frigid atmosphere growing even colder.
"Let's just reach the destination and begin the battle. This oppressive silence is truly unbearable!"
Ōmaeda and Kuchiki Rukia exchanged a look, a shared understanding passing between them.
Suì-Fēng and Byakuya Kuchiki's party didn't travel long before arriving at the location exhibiting the unusual surge in spiritual pressure.
There, dozens of Hollows, their eyes faintly glowing with a menacing crimson light, were wreaking havoc, leaving no ordinary souls in their wake. The surviving souls had either fled in terror or been consumed by the rampaging Hollows.
Above the Hollows, a figure with immensely powerful spiritual pressure and a bizarre appearance hovered. Clad in a dark robe, one side of his face was concealed by a skull mask resembling a shark's head, while the other side displayed what appeared to be fish-like gills.
"So this is what an Arrancar looks like. Indeed, judging by its spiritual pressure, it is a captain-level opponent," Byakuya Kuchiki stated calmly.
Observing their adversary, Suì-Fēng issued her instructions, "You two vice-captains will engage the lesser Hollows; this Arrancar is mine and Captain Kuchiki's to handle."
Following Suì-Fēng's orders, Ōmaeda and Kuchiki Rukia immediately drew their Zanpakutō and engaged the surrounding Hollows.
The overwhelming spiritual pressure emanating from the Arrancar before them made it clear that this opponent was far beyond their capabilities.
The moment Suì-Fēng and Byakuya Kuchiki appeared, the Arrancar, hovering in the air, immediately noticed their presence. This Arrancar was one of the five Dōgyoku-fused experimental subjects, named Barboni.
"Two Gotei 13 captains! Excellent! I've been longing for a true battle,"
Barboni, a cruel grin spreading across his face, drew a curved blade from his waist and addressed Suì-Fēng and Byakuya Kuchiki.
Byakuya Kuchiki, instead of immediately attacking, calmly inquired, "What is your origin, and what is the purpose of this Hollow surge in Rukongai?"
Barboni, displaying no interest in answering, instead charged towards them with a ferocious laugh. "Two insignificant Shinigami have no right to know! Prepare to be torn to shreds!"
Suì-Fēng and Byakuya Kuchiki responded with a simultaneous cold snort, immediately releasing their Zanpakutō.
"Scatter, Senbonzakura."
"Sting all Enemies to Death, Suzumebachi!"
Byakuya Kuchiki's Zanpakutō transformed into countless pink, petal-like blades that surged towards Barboni, while Suì-Fēng, utilizing her unparalleled Shunpo speed, instantly appeared behind him.
She wielded no Zanpakutō, but instead, a refined, razor-sharp finger guard, radiating a chilling aura. This was the Shikai form of her Zanpakutō, Suzumebachi.
Confronted by the simultaneous assault from Suì-Fēng and Byakuya Kuchiki, Barboni remained unfazed. He unleashed a powerful wave of water imbued with immense spiritual energy, dispersing the countless pink blades of Senbonzakura. Simultaneously, he turned to engage Suì-Fēng in close combat.
Despite Suì-Fēng's remarkable speed, Barboni, whose spiritual pressure and physical capabilities had been significantly augmented by the Dōgyoku, effortlessly matched her pace. His superior strength quickly gave him the upper hand.
Byakuya Kuchiki, undeterred, rapidly reformed the dispersed Senbonzakura blades, directing them anew towards Barboni.
Barboni, engaged in close quarters combat with Suì-Fēng, was caught off guard and swiftly enveloped by the countless Senbonzakura blades.
As the countless blades rotated and moved, numerous small cuts appeared across Barboni's body. His black robe was torn and tattered, revealing the Dōgyoku fused into his chest.
While the individual wounds inflicted by Senbonzakura were not severe, their cumulative effect created a significant restraining effect.
Distracted by the incessant pain, Barboni momentarily lost his focus, allowing Suì-Fēng's Suzumebachi to strike him several times, leaving behind distinctive black butterfly marks.
These marks represented Suzumebachi's unique ability: "Double-Strike Kill." If these marks were struck again by Suzumebachi, the target would be instantly annihilated!
Barboni, naturally, was unaware of this lethal ability.
Covered in wounds and bleeding profusely, Barboni, despite his powerful regenerative abilities, endured excruciating pain as Senbonzakura continuously inflicted wounds that constantly healed.
"Aaaaagh!!! Tear apart, Dragon Vortex Shark!"
With a furious roar, Barboni unleashed a tremendous surge of spiritual pressure, sending Suì-Fēng and the Senbonzakura blades flying.
"You think those attacks could defeat me? Let me show you a power beyond your comprehension!"
Barboni's appearance underwent a dramatic transformation. Sharp, hardened fins sprouted from his back and limbs, his curved blade vanished, and his hands transformed into two grotesque shark heads.
Most significantly, his already superior spiritual pressure intensified to an even greater degree.
Even Suì-Fēng and Byakuya Kuchiki, both seasoned captains, felt the immense pressure bearing down upon them.
"Such a repulsive transformation," Suì-Fēng sneered, her voice devoid of any emotion.
Utilizing Shunpo, Suì-Fēng instantly reappeared at Barboni's side, her Suzumebachi aimed at a vital point.
Barboni dodged, pointing his shark-head right hand towards Suì-Fēng, rapidly accumulating immense spiritual pressure within its maw.
Sensing the imminent danger, Byakuya Kuchiki shouted, "Suì-Fēng, retreat immediately!"
Simultaneously, Byakuya Kuchiki, utilizing Shunpo, arrived beside Suì-Fēng, his right hand extended, poised to unleash a Kidō spell.
"Cero: White Shark Torrent!"
"Bakudō #81, Dankū!"
A deafening explosion reverberated as a massive shockwave, the result of the clashing spiritual pressures, impacted Byakuya Kuchiki's Dankū barrier. The disparity in spiritual pressure proved too great, and the barrier shattered almost instantly.
