Responding to Nnoitra's question about her restraint, Nelliel said quizzically, "Hold back? Should I have just killed you?"
Nelliel's Lanzador Verde had, in fact, been more than powerful enough to pierce Nnoitra's crescent blades and completely penetrate his body. Had the Emerald Lance's full power been unleashed upon penetration, Nnoitra would have had absolutely no chance of survival.
However, Nelliel, lacking any killing intent, sensed Nnoitra's crescent blades were about to break under the attack and therefore held back her power. As a result, Nnoitra's crescent blades were left on the verge of destruction, shattering easily with a slight extra force.
Nnoitra, however, seemed deeply offended by Nelliel's mercy.
Struggling to his feet, Nnoitra laughed cruelly, "That's why I hate you women, always so sentimental. You spared me today, but I may not show you the same mercy another day."
Nnoitra's words caused an uproar among the audience, who were shocked by his vicious nature.
Most of the Hollows in Las Noches were intelligent Gillian, possessing human-like thought processes. While many Hollows had significant personality flaws, that didn't make them inherently evil. Even among humans, many possessed a cruelty beyond imagination.
As the saying goes, "old habits die hard." Yusuke knew Nnoitra was incapable of change, and therefore only saw him as a tool.
After Nelliel's victory, the audience erupted in thunderous applause and cheers, demonstrating Nelliel's considerable popularity within Las Noches.
The victorious Nelliel took Nnoitra's former seat, while the severely injured Nnoitra, like the others who had lost, was carried away for treatment.
Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez turned to Nelliel, "Nelliel, to think the little girl from back then now possesses such strength."
Nelliel and Grimmjow had joined Las Noches around the same time. Nelliel and her two companions had been attacked by Grimmjow's group, and it was only by calling upon Yusuke that they were saved. Yusuke then brought them into Las Noches.
Although Nelliel's spiritual pressure was now nearly equal to his own, Grimmjow believed he could still defeat her.
After Nelliel's challenge of Nnoitra, the other Espada remained silent, seemingly uninterested in vying for higher ranks.
The lower-ranked Espada were well aware of their limitations and knew challenging their superiors would be futile.
Among the higher-ranked Espada, only Baraggan seemed to care about rank, and even he showed no desire to challenge.
Only Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez, the Sexta Espada, remained a potential challenger.
As Yusuke expected, Grimmjow stood, seemingly ready to issue a challenge.
"Yusuke-sama, simply changing ranks is too boring. Let's add some stakes!"
Grimmjow, instead of declaring a challenge, addressed Yusuke.
Yusuke asked with interest, "Grimmjow, what do you desire from me?"
Grimmjow laughed, "Ulquiorra's been in charge of punishment for too long. I'm interested in that position! If I challenge Ulquiorra and win, could we swap positions?"
Yusuke highly valued the position of enforcer. The person holding this position must be impartial, just, and fiercely loyal. In Yusuke's estimation, only Ulquiorra and Harribel were suitable.
However, Yusuke wasn't prepared to refuse Grimmjow's proposal; he had absolute confidence in Ulquiorra's strength.
Furthermore, this opportunity would allow Ulquiorra to showcase his power, benefiting his future enforcement duties.
Although Ulquiorra was only ranked fourth, Yusuke believed he and Starrk were the strongest among the Espada. Determining who was truly superior would require a life-or-death battle.
Turning to Ulquiorra, Yusuke smiled. "Ulquiorra, I respect your choice. Are you willing to wager your position and accept Grimmjow's challenge?"
Ulquiorra stood, placing his left hand over his chest in a respectful bow to Yusuke. "Yusuke-sama, I accept Grimmjow's challenge."
Ulquiorra immediately entered the arena, Grimmjow facing him.
"Ulquiorra, you've been in charge of punishment long enough. It must be fun dishing out punishments with your authority!" Grimmjow laughed.
Ulquiorra remained calm. "Punishment isn't a job for someone like you. You're better suited to patrolling."
Grimmjow's current duty was patrolling. Hearing Ulquiorra's mockery, he laughed angrily, "I can't stand your arrogant attitude. Don't think just because you easily handled that weakling, Luppi, that you're something special."
With those words, Grimmjow attacked Ulquiorra, his body a blur of blue light as he drew his sword and closed the distance.
Ulquiorra remained unfazed, his right hand in his pocket, his left arm blocking Grimmjow's blade. Grimmjow's strength was such that Ulquiorra couldn't rely solely on his Arrancar hide; a layer of extremely resilient spiritual pressure coated his left arm.
Their spiritual pressure collided, creating a violent shockwave.
Seeing Ulquiorra deflect his attack with only his arm, Grimmjow's anger intensified. A cruel smile spread across his face. "Oh? So calm? How about this!"
Grimmjow extended his left hand, rapidly forming a red Cero.
"Unnecessary, Grimmjow," Ulquiorra said calmly.
As he spoke, Ulquiorra's left arm, which had blocked Grimmjow's sword, swept aside the blade. He then grasped Grimmjow's left hand, which was still forming the Cero.
A grey Cero appeared in Ulquiorra's palm, meeting Grimmjow's red Cero. The two Cero collided, exploding where their hands met.
