Over the years, the 6th Division's Seated Officers underwent several changes.
The ever-growing success of Ginjirō Shirogane's "Gin-Tonbo eyewear shop led to his retirement from the Gotei 13, allowing him to dedicate himself fully to his business.
He also took his daughter, Mihane Shirogane, the 9th Seat of the 6th Division, with him.
Following Ginjirō Shirogane's retirement, Byakuya Kuchiki, the 3rd Seat, was promoted to lieutenant, and Kōga Kuchiki resumed his position as 3rd Seat.
Since losing his 3rd Seat to Byakuya Kuchiki, Kōga Kuchiki had trained relentlessly, challenging Byakuya Kuchiki annually.
However, the difference in their innate abilities proved insurmountable; the gap between them only widened, each defeat for Kōga Kuchiki more crushing than the last.

After the squad dispersed for the evening, Byakuya Kuchiki visited Yusuke Uchiha's office.
"Captain Yusuke, I apologize for troubling you again."
Byakuya Kuchiki's expression remained his usual impassive one, but his eyes betrayed a deep worry.
Over the years, Byakuya Kuchiki had become, in essence, Yusuke Uchiha's disciple, receiving much guidance in his training and seeking his help with numerous problems. He saw his captain as practically omnipotent, capable of solving any problem.
Yusuke Uchiha smiled faintly. "Byakuya, you're still so formal. I know you wouldn't ask for help unless it was a truly serious matter. Tell me, what problem could possibly stump you?"
Byakuya Kuchiki spoke slowly. "You've met my wife, Hisana. Lately, she's been experiencing health problems; her spiritual power is steadily declining. If this continues, I fear…"
His face fell, his eyes filled with fear.
Hisana was Rukia Kuchiki's older sister. They met in Rukongai over a decade ago; Byakuya Kuchiki married her, and she adopted his surname.
Before marrying Byakuya Kuchiki, Hisana and Rukia Kuchiki were orphans in Rukongai. As a child, Hisana was unable to care for herself, so she sadly left the infant Rukia at the doorstep of a wealthy family.
After marrying Byakuya Kuchiki, Hisana, free from want, was consumed by regret, longing to find her sister.
Unfortunately, years passed without any news of Rukia, causing Hisana considerable distress and a gradual depletion of her spiritual power.
For souls, the depletion of spiritual power ultimately leads to death.
Yusuke Uchiha had met Hisana several times—at Byakuya Kuchiki's wedding and during occasional visits to the Kuchiki estate. He understood her past and knew her spiritual depletion stemmed from her emotional distress.
Adjusting his glasses, Yusuke Uchiha asked, "Have you consulted Captain Unohana?"
Byakuya Kuchiki nodded. "Yes, but she said Hisana suffers from a heart ailment; without addressing the underlying emotional distress, no one can help."
Byakuya Kuchiki then recounted Hisana's past and her sister's situation, confirming what Yusuke Uchiha already knew.
"Regardless, take me to see her," Yusuke Uchiha said.
When Yusuke Uchiha and Byakuya Kuchiki arrived at the Kuchiki estate, Hisana was resting in bed.
Her face was ashen, her spiritual power visibly fading. Yusuke Uchiha estimated she had less than a year to live.
Seeing his wife's weakened state, Byakuya Kuchiki's usual calm facade crumbled, replaced by profound sorrow.
Sitting by Hisana's bedside, Byakuya Kuchiki took her hand, silently praying for her recovery.
After a moment's thought, Yusuke Uchiha said slowly, "I can't cure Hisana's illness. However…"
Despair crossed Byakuya Kuchiki's face at Yusuke Uchiha's admission of helplessness. But the "however" instantly rekindled his hope.
Yusuke Uchiha patted Byakuya Kuchiki's shoulder. "Don't worry, I can preserve her life. However, if her heart ailment remains untreated, it will still be a significant problem."
Byakuya Kuchiki's face lit up. "Captain, please tell me."
Looking at Hisana in bed, Yusuke Uchiha said softly, "I can use a self-created spell to seal Hisana's body, preserving her. Her spiritual power and life force will be perfectly preserved; even after ten thousand years, she'll still be alive when the seal is released."
"Your task is to find her sister during this time. Once her sister is found, I will release the seal, and her heart ailment will naturally be resolved."
After considerable thought, Byakuya Kuchiki agreed. While he didn't want to seal his wife away, it was the best option to prevent her imminent death.
"Captain, I implore you. But before that, I wish to speak with Hisana," Byakuya Kuchiki said.
Yusuke Uchiha nodded, leaving the room for the couple.
A short time later, Byakuya Kuchiki returned with Yusuke Uchiha. Hisana was awake, tears streaming down her face. She knew about the sealing, but saw it as a positive, fearing she wouldn't see her sister again before she died.
"Byakuya-sama, please find my sister. Captain Uchiha, I'm truly sorry to trouble you further," Hisana whispered weakly.
"Hisana, don't worry. I will find our sister, Rukia, and reunite you. Now, rest well, and dream sweet dreams. When you awaken, you will see Rukia."
Having made his promise, Byakuya Kuchiki turned to Yusuke Uchiha. "Captain, I leave this in your capable hands."
