Chapter 603: Choosing Is a Serious Problem
Having lost interest in continuing to wander around with Lin Yuhsia, Steven suddenly remembered something and decided to ask her a small question.
"By the way, since today is Sauin Pilgrimage, is it going to be lively tonight? Will there be a lot of events and celebrations?"
"Of course. During festivals like this, it's very common for couples to go on dates. The Lantern Festival is especially famous as a perfect opportunity for young people to confess their feelings."
Lin Yuhsia nodded. Although she had no idea why Steven was suddenly asking, a trace of longing inevitably crept into her voice as she spoke about the festival.
If possible, wouldn't she also like to spend a romantic date with someone she loved? Someone who could stay by her side for the rest of her life?
Unfortunately, her status alone made such dreams almost impossible. Not only did she have no special someone in mind, she was instead stuck accompanying the troublesome man beside her and suffering through one headache after another.
"I see. Just as I thought. Festivals really are the best excuse for couples to go on dates."
Steven nodded in understanding.
At that moment, his mind had already begun sorting through a long list of names.
After all, he had accumulated quite a number of romantic entanglements. There were already several girls with whom he had officially entered relationships. While none of them knew he was currently celebrating some kind of event here, ignoring them completely felt a little too scummy, even for him.
But bringing all of them over together?
That seemed a little too courageous.
Steven wasn't worried they'd actually tear him apart. Still, the whole reason he wanted to invite them was so everyone could enjoy themselves. Why create unnecessary trouble?
Unfortunately, the troubled expression on his face gave Lin Yuhsia the completely wrong idea.
To her, he looked exactly like a man trying to invite her out but struggling to find an excuse.
"Just so we're clear, I have important things to help my dad with tonight. I also have to oversee Lungmen's security during Sauin Pilgrimage. So don't expect me to spend the evening wandering around with you."
Turning her face away, Lin Yuhsia felt a strange mixture of emotions.
The thought of spending Sauin Pilgrimage with Steven filled her with a vague sense of anticipation...
But far more than that was her resistance toward the walking disaster beside her.
It wasn't that she imagined any sort of romantic developments.
Rather, based on everything she knew about Steven, there was absolutely no way he'd let an opportunity to cause trouble pass him by.
Besides, what she said was true. Given her position, she simply didn't have the luxury of spending a leisurely evening festival-hopping with him.
"Huh? I wasn't planning on inviting you in the first place."
Steven tilted his head and looked at the cute young woman with an indescribable expression.
Sure, he admitted Lin Yuhsia was beautiful, but that didn't mean they were close enough for that kind of thing.
He already had enough difficult choices to make. Adding another candidate to the list would just be asking for trouble.
"Hmph. As if I'd care. I was just reminding you." Lin Yuhsia rolled her eyes.
She had originally intended to say something like, "A weirdo like you actually thinks anyone would want to spend time with you?"
But then she remembered the intelligence reports she'd collected.
Apparently, yesterday, this man had been traveling together with a Kuranta beauty. Not only that, the two had even booked a single room together for the night.
The words immediately got stuck in her throat.
No.
She absolutely could not give this guy another opportunity to show off.
Seriously, how could this annoying jerk have such ridiculously good luck?
Just what did that girl see in him, anyway?
"Cough, cough. What I mean is, if you're looking for someone to stroll around with, you could try visiting the plaza near my father's candy shop tonight. There's a special event being held there, and they've even prepared a little surprise."
Casually throwing out a suggestion to bury the previous topic, Lin Yuhsia put on a flawless expression as though she had never said anything embarrassing at all.
"Sounds good. Thanks for all your hard work as my guide today. I'll handle the rest of my sightseeing on my own. If you've got things to do, I won't keep you any longer. As for your payment for being my guide today... I'll make it up to you later." Steven waved his hand dismissively.
At the moment, his mind was entirely occupied by a far more pressing dilemma.
Should he spend a romantic evening with Gladiia, the little swordfish he had practically raised himself over the past few months? Or should he bring over those three who were still suffering on the snowy wastelands—people who might never have experienced the modern lifestyle of Lungmen—and leave them with some pleasant memories?
Because of that internal struggle, he absentmindedly sent Lin Yuhsia on her way. For once, he wasn't in the mood to tease her or pay attention to what she might be thinking.
Among all the candidates, however, there was one person he could eliminate immediately.
Centaurea.
His perpetually lazy yet incredibly low-maintenance little white horse had long since declared her dislike for noisy gatherings. A festival like this probably held little appeal for her.
At least that saved Steven one headache and allowed him to focus on the remaining options.
Otherwise, simply because he had brought her all the way to Lungmen, he would have had no excuse not to invite her.
They had agreed to travel together, after all.
Bringing someone along only to leave them sitting on the sidelines while he went off enjoying himself would have been a pretty terrible thing to do.
"Come to think of it, that little bird probably hasn't experienced anything like this either. Maybe I should let her see what it's like?"
After agonizing over the decision for quite some time, Steven suddenly dug another name out of the depths of his memory.
Only then did he remember that he had apparently raised a little bird back in Iberia as well.
Just like that, another candidate was added to the list.
After wrestling with the issue for several more minutes, Steven finally drew a deep breath and chose the safest possible solution.
He pulled out the communicator hanging from his inventory and randomly selected one of the candidates to call.
Rather than sitting here endlessly debating who to invite on a festival date, why not simply ask whether they were interested—or even available—in the first place?
And if, by some miracle, all of them wanted to come...
Well, then it would be time to put his time-management skills to the ultimate test.
