Captain Theron stood before the magical barrier control center.
The crystalline array hummed with energy. Blue light pulsed through the network of crystals that maintained the camp's defensive wards.
His hands trembled as he reached for the primary control crystal.
This was treason. Once he damaged the barrier, there would be no going back. No hiding his true feelings about what his people had become.
But his sister was dead. Killed by another elf.
Theron placed his hands on the central crystal and ripped it apart.
