Chapter 20 - Ch - 20

A voice echoed within my ears,

one filled with wonder—

"Freya!"

As I turned my lashes toward that sound,

there stood a beautiful boy before me,

his face mirroring the same astonishment—

he was stunned.

Perhaps, like me, he too couldn't comprehend what he was seeing.

He was tall.

His hair, slightly disheveled, brushed gently against his forehead.

And he was... breathtakingly handsome.

He was Adri.

I sat quietly, hidden in a corner

within the walls that enclosed me.

And he...

was watching me from the doorway in the opposite corner.

Suddenly, he began walking toward me with hurried steps—

His pace today was not soft or measured,

but quick, urgent.

The calm, carefree expression

that always rested on his face—

was nowhere to be seen now.

I sat there, like stone, lifeless.

Everything around my seat was scattered.

My hair, my clothes, my bag, my seat—

even my notebook and books—

everything was in disarray.

With harsh, black-colored words,

they had tainted everything that was mine.

Then Adri's voice fell into my ears again—

"Freya! What happened to you? This... who did all this?"

I didn't even look at him.

I had no idea what to say.

"Freya... say something. Freya, why are you silent?"

My eyes were lowered to the ground.

My hair had fallen to both sides of my face.

His voice...

was melting slowly into my ears.

Adri...

Maybe Adri thinks of me

the same way everyone else does.

Did he ever even consider me a friend?

I like him.

I do...

But maybe he never really saw me as his closed .

I was stunned.

What was Adri doing here?

He was supposed to be away...

And yet now, he was standing right before me—

Asking questions

I perhaps didn't even have the answers to.

"Freya, who did this to you? Say something! Why won't you speak?"

I stayed silent.

"Freya?"

No reply.

"Freya?"

Still... nothing.

Then, I felt it—

as if someone had gently placed the soft pads of their fingers on my chin.

He tilted my face upward with his long, slender fingers,

and my eyes met his.

His eyes met mine.

There was fear on his face... and perhaps worry too... for me?

And when his gaze held mine,

something else flickered in his eyes—

emotions I couldn't quite understand.

I lowered my gaze once more.

I thought , he will again questioned me .

I lowered my eyes again.

But this time...

he didn't ask anything more.

Instead…

he pulled out a soft blue handkerchief

and gently began to clean the dirt from my face and hair.

He smoothed my hair with his fingers,

and still—not a single question from him.

After few seconds ,

I hear a voice.

In a trembling, fragile voice, asked,

"Do you trust me?"

it was mine.

His face…

was startled by my question.

"Do you believe... that it isn't me in that video?"

I looked at him.

But in his eyes...

what I longed to see was absent.

He said nothing.

For a few moments, everything was silent.

And then, after a pause...

I heard my own voice—

neither soft, nor loud,

neither soaked in sorrow, nor touched by joy...

Just a wandering, lost voice.

"Do you trust me?"

I kept looking at him,

waiting for an answer.

I looked again.

His face had turned quiet,

as if the light had drained from it.

I saw his lips move,

and in my ears, I heard a voice—

"I..."

"Freya... I believe in you.

I do.

But... in that video, it clearly looked like it was you, Freya."

Adri is the kind of boy—

if anyone can read a single emotion on his face,

then that person is a genius .

But today...

at this very moment...

I could see every expression on his face.

Anyone can see his expressions very clearly .

In his eyes, I saw uncertainty.

His lashes were trembling softly,

his lips quivering too.

There was hesitation, sorrow,

and something else,

something beyond what I could understand.

And hearing his words...

I felt nothing.

I don't know why.

But I didn't.

On one hand,

it felt like the chains inside me had been released—

as if they had let go of their grip on me.

But when I tried to lift my head

and take a deep breath...

Then—

then it felt like

the number of chains growing inside me had only increased,

and they had weighed me down so heavily

that even breathing through my nose...

would be too much to ask.

I closed my eyes.

And when the curtain made of lashes opened again...

Adri's face was still in front of me—

but on that face...

there was something different.

Maybe...

there were feelings.

He stood before me, while I sat there.

He lowered his gaze to look at me,

and I raised mine to meet his.

(Have moments like these happened to me before?)

His lips moved as if to speak,

when suddenly the sounds of children laughing and footsteps began to reach us.

The laughter and footsteps grew closer, gradually filling the space.

Adri seemed to want to say something to me,

he moved his lips again.

I waited e for his words.

The sounds grew gradually closer.

At last, Adri said nothing,

and walked over to sit in the far corner.

I lowered my head.

One by one, the children began entering the classroom.

I thought to myself,

"So, even Adri doesn't want to connect with me anymore.

I laugh to myself...

But honestly, what was I thinking?

Why would anyone want to stay with me?

What was I expecting?"
