Chapter 516 - Chapter 516: I'm No Masochist

Chapter 516: I'm No Masochist

In that moment, Gallade's mind was screaming with danger alerts. It immediately retracted its psychic blade and tried to retreat, but Arthur wasn't about to give it that chance.

"Mismagius, Imprison! Specter, Taunt!"

Two ghosts shot out from the shadows on the ground, making Gallade want to curse. This small patch of shadow was hiding two Ghost-type Pokémon. Are you insane?!

At the same time, this confirmed Gallade's premonition: it had indeed been an ambush. Damn it!

But it was in its move's cooldown period and couldn't fight back. Specter and Mismagius were no rookies; their combat experience was vast, and they wouldn't give it a chance to turn and dodge. The two ghosts appeared in front and behind it. Specter, in front, beckoned with a finger, using Taunt. Mismagius, behind, gently stroked its back, using Imprison.

Double insurance, saturation control, ensuring that Gallade would be defenseless for a short time.

Then, Arthur gave it a gentle wave. Although he had smiled coldly a moment ago, as if he were about to personally finish it off, he didn't actually need to do it himself. He leaped back onto Lina's back and soared into the sky.

This left Gallade momentarily confused. What's going on? Two ghosts controlled me, and then... nothing? All that thunder and no rain?

But then, the ground beneath its feet began to tremble, and any hope it had was extinguished. Heh. It seems my years of battle have not failed me. My premonition of death was accurate, without error. If you feel you're going to die, you're going to die.

In that moment, Gallade looked up and saw Arthur recall the two ghosts and then ascend rapidly, becoming a black dot in the distance. It already knew its fate. It silently closed its eyes. My career has been without regret...

The next moment, the earth split open. A blade-like stone spire shot out from the ground, piercing the sky. Precipice Blades.

Trapped by both Imprison and Taunt, Gallade couldn't use Substitute, Protect, or Teleport. It could only stand tall, its eyes closed, in a final act of defiance.

A Champion's Pokémon, a veteran of countless battles with many glorious victories to its name, had fallen. The power of a Legendary was once again displayed in a shocking and cruel manner, especially for Kuisqi to witness.

"What happened?!"

The moment the telepathic link was severed, Kuisqi let out a low growl, his eyes instantly turning bloodshot. He could never have imagined that one of his main Pokémon, his companion for many years, would fall so quickly after his arrival. The sudden reversal of fortune was too much for him to bear.

Gallade's final thought had been a warning to be careful of Groudon. But Kuisqi was in no state to calmly consider the meaning of this warning. His bond with Gallade, strong enough for Mega Evolution, was deep. This sudden loss was something he simply could not accept.

"You bastard!!" he roared in rage, completely unaware of the danger that was quietly approaching.

The next moment, a sudden gust of wind, and his instincts screamed. A split-second reaction saved his life. He threw out a Poké Ball just in time, summoning another Pokémon to block Old Flame's fatal, diving Dragon Claw.

"What?!" The appearance of the Mega Charizard stunned Kuisqi.

Then, Arthur, riding Lina, appeared above his hiding spot. "Finally caught you."

Arthur's words, on top of his shock, felt absurd to Kuisqi. "Hah! You dare to be distracted with me while fighting Groudon? You're courting death! Young man, I advise you not to be so arrogant. Underestimating the heroes of this world will be your downfall. When I made my name, you were probably still—"

Honestly, Arthur was a bit surprised. How can this guy be so talkative at a time like this? A fine Champion, ruined by his mouth.

So, Arthur cut him off. "Are you sure I'm the one fighting Groudon right now?"

Kuisqi frowned. "What are you talking about, boy?"

He was about to sneer, but reality slapped him in the face. Groudon, which had been kneeling on the ground, suddenly stood up, stretched out its arm, and slammed its massive hand down on the spot where his Mr. Mime was hiding.

Mr. Mime had been using a psychic barrier to bend the light and conceal itself and Raichu. It was an expert at this kind of camouflage. As long as they didn't move, they were practically invisible. However, as Arthur and Groudon had fought over a sixty-mile stretch, Mr. Mime and Raichu had been forced to follow, repositioning themselves several times. And during those relocations, the light-bending barrier had inevitably flickered.

In truth, Arthur had spotted them long ago. He had just pretended not to see them. Because he wasn't satisfied with just taking out these two Pokémon. He wanted the real mastermind. Arthur's ambition was great; he wanted to end this in one fell swoop. He wanted to lure out the true culprit: Kuisqi.

"Mime, Mime!! Help, Master!!"

"Master, recall us! Groudon is back to its senses!!"

In an instant, urgent calls for help came from both Mr. Mime and Raichu through their telepathic link. In that moment, Kuisqi felt a chill run down his spine. He finally realized that he was the one who had underestimated the heroes of this world.

This young man... his goal from the beginning had not been to just hold off Groudon.

Arthur had no intention of denying it. He looked down at his own body. His shirt had long been torn to shreds, his chest and abdomen covered in scrapes, dried blood, and sweat. Every moment was a torment, like being bitten by a thousand insects. His pants were mostly intact, but the waistband had been soaked a dark red with blood, the stain running all the way down to his knees.

A Legendary was not an easy opponent to block. In that one hour, he had paid a price others could not imagine.

And now, looking down at Kuisqi, who was still in a state of shock, unable to accept the reality before him, Arthur, high on Lina's back, finally let a cold smile spread across his lips.

"I fought for over an hour, I held Groudon off for over an hour. Did you really think I was just doing it for the thrill?"

Arthur had endured for an hour. He and his Pokémon had risked everything to hold Groudon back for an hour, nearly losing their lives in the process. He had used up every Potion he had. Every single one of his Pokémon, even Old Flame's mate, who had barely fought, had been on the front lines.

He hadn't suffered this much just because he was some kind of masochist.

Now, the roles were reversed. It was time for the other side to pay their debt.
