Chapter 504 - Chapter 504: Guarding an Open Secret

Chapter 504: Guarding an Open Secret

After being recaptured, the telepathic link between Arthur and the little dragonfly was re-established, two hundred years later. At the same time, she also became aware of the many other Pokémon now with Arthur.

"Wow, Master, you have so many new doggies now! I suddenly feel a great sense of crisis! Am I still your most beloved little dragonfly?"

Before Arthur could even reply, Little Eevee landed a critical hit. "Is this really old aunty a new companion?"

Really old... aunty...

The little dragonfly was momentarily petrified. Then, a fierce light gleamed in her compound eyes. "Whose unruly child is this?"

Arthur shot her a look. "That's Leafeon's descendant."

The little dragonfly's tone immediately changed. "What a unique-looking little one."

"?" Little Eevee tilted its head, its ears twitching. Is she complimenting me? Yay!

In that moment, the little dragonfly was crying a river of tears on the inside. Once upon a time, using my youth to act cute was my exclusive privilege! Damn it!

Arthur's expression turned serious, cutting off her endless antics. "Alright, little dragonfly, stop messing around. I have something serious to ask you. The Krookodile said you travel all over the desert. Have you heard anything recently about a lot of young Pokémon claiming to have received a 'revelation'?"

Honestly, before the ambush, his top priority had been finding his little dragonfly and old Tyranitar. He wasn't particularly interested in anything else. Even his promise to help the Krookodile Chieftain was just something he was doing on the side. But now, things were different. He was beginning to realize that this was far more complicated than it seemed.

The little dragonfly suddenly made a shocked cat face. "Master, are you working so hard for another doggy? I'm jealous~"

Arthur smacked her on the head. "Be serious!"

Greninja, standing beside them, was disillusioned. Why does this senior seem so unreliable?

Specter, next to him, sighed silently. It's a good thing this kid never met Leafeon...

Seeing the serious look on Arthur's face, the little dragonfly finally reined in her playful nature and playfully stuck out her tongue.

Just then, the Nidoking Chieftain arrived. Seeing the harmonious scene before him, he looked at the little dragonfly in surprise. Hey, little sis, weren't you just telling me with such conviction that you always keep your word, and that if you said you'd teach this human a lesson, you would? And you even took the meat.

The little dragonfly avoided the Nidoking Chieftain's gaze, turned her head, and started whistling. Ah, the sun is so nice today~

A gust of wind blew a cloud of sand into the air. The Nidoking shot her a contemptuous look. Well, whatever. It wasn't my meat they stole.

The great Krookodile, still running back from kilometers away, probably had a different opinion. Damn it all!

But for the Nidoking Chieftain, it was a good thing they hadn't fought. He was also hoping Arthur could help him find his kinsman. He expressed his confusion about Arthur's early return, and Arthur, in turn, asked for more details about the kidnapped Nidoking. The Heliolisk had told him some things on the way, but the Chieftain's account was far more detailed.

The little dragonfly also shared what she had heard during her recent travels. After listening to everything, Arthur was silent for a long time, his face frighteningly grim. "It might really be the worst-case scenario."

He didn't voice his deduction immediately. Instead, he went back to find Amani and the research team. "Do you have any way to contact Dr. Zeratano from here in the desert?"

One of them took out a signal transmitter. "We can, but this transmitter can only send one-way messages. It's mainly for us to call for help in an emergency."

"What kind of information can it send?" Arthur asked.

"Short text messages, photos, and our current location. That's it."

Arthur nodded. Text was enough. "Then get it ready. In a moment, send a message to the doctor for me. Tell him to inform the Alliance. This is extremely urgent."

Amani noticed the grave expression on Arthur's face. "What is it? Has something major happened?" This was their last resort for calling for help. There was no regular signal in the desert. Once they used this transmitter, if they ran into trouble later, they would be well and truly on their own.

Arthur nodded, confirming her fears. "Something major has happened. Something very big."

He had Old Flame spread its wings and pulled out a Celebi that had been hiding in the crevice at the base of its wing.

"Hey, hey, what are you doing?! We agreed you wouldn't expose me in front of people! It's dangerous!"

Amani and Skarner were both amazed. "This Pokémon can talk? What is it? I've never seen one before. Is it a new species from the Kubfu Alliance?"

Celebi was furious. "Insolence! I am the great—"

"Alright," Arthur decisively pinched its cheek and stretched it, stopping it from revealing any more. "You're talking about danger while exposing your own identity. Are you an idiot?"

"Mmmph! I'm not an idiot!"

Arthur let go of its face, and Celebi glared at him angrily. He then said seriously, "Don't worry. No one's going to be after you right now. Because they've already set their sights on a much higher-level target."

Celebi suddenly looked panicked. Seeing this reaction, Arthur's suspicion was confirmed once again. "So you knew all along, didn't you?" He lifted Celebi into the air.

"Team Leader... what are you talking about? What does this Pokémon know?" Skarner and Amani didn't understand, but they could feel the atmosphere growing tense and solemn. It was the calm before the storm.

Arthur held Celebi up, stared into its eyes, and asked in a low, slow voice, "You knew all along, didn't you? That the Groudon in this desert... is dying."

"What?!"

"Kouga?"

"Flyy, gon?!"

"ROAR?!"

In an instant, everyone present, human and Pokémon alike, let out a sound of shock.

Celebi's eyes went wide. It instinctively shook its head. But the little one was a terrible liar. Just by the change in its eyes, Arthur knew he was right.

"You don't have to cover for it anymore. Because the enemy already has this information, and they've already acted on it. All those Pokémon that have suddenly received a 'revelation' in recent months... they are all potential successors to the next Groudon, the 'Seeds.' And now, those Seeds are about to be wiped out!"

Only after Arthur revealed this truth did Celebi stop playing dumb. "What?! Th-that's impossible!"

It had been foolishly keeping this secret, not telling anyone, not even Arthur. Of course, Arthur hadn't thought to ask about it either. But now, Celebi realized that it had been guarding an open secret. The enemy was about to destroy Groudon's entire lineage.
