Chapter 505: Analysis and Persuasion

Legendaries are immortal, but individual Legendaries have a limited lifespan. When a Legendary dies, either naturally or unnaturally, the laws of nature will select a new wild Pokémon to take its place. These candidates are generally known as "Seeds."

This succession is not a new phenomenon. Human civilization has existed for thousands of years, and there have been dozens of recorded successions. Aside from the most mysterious and rarely seen Arceus, almost all other Legendaries have a record of succession. Some are natural, while others are the result of human intervention.

The most famous case was the succession of the Dragon duo on the West Continent over two hundred years ago. The previous generation of Dialga and Palkia had a severe personal grudge and, for some reason, loved to fight each other constantly. They neglected their duties as Legendaries, and their battles often caused immense collateral damage and countless casualties. On one occasion, they even destroyed a small town, causing over a hundred thousand people to vanish overnight.

At the time, the White Eagle Alliance was looking to expand its territory and used the incident as a pretext to "mediate" the conflict, enlisting the help of another Legendary, Darkrai. However, only Darkrai was genuinely trying to mediate. The White Eagle Alliance played the long game, using the "mediation" as a cover to ambush and kill both Dialga and Palkia, achieving the first-ever human kill of a major Legendary in history. The event nearly caused Darkrai to be ostracized by the other Legendaries.

Because of this, the White Eagle Alliance's expansion two hundred years ago went much more smoothly than that of the Kubfu Alliance or the Sinnoh League. To this day, the current Dialga and Palkia are still the youngest among the major Legendaries.

That succession became the most closely observed and well-documented in human history, helping to further demystify the Legendaries. News of the White Eagle Alliance's feat had reached the Kubfu Alliance, and Arthur had heard of it at the time. The relationship between the two alliances was not as tense then, and there had even been some academic exchanges. It was during this period that Arthur first learned the meaning of the term "Seed."

So, when he first heard the Sandslash talk about receiving a revelation, a spark of inspiration had flashed in his mind. But before he could grasp it, his own chuunibyou girl had jumped out and completely derailed his train of thought. Because he had already dismissed it as a delusion, he had never bothered to investigate the underlying cause.

It wasn't until the ambush, when he personally heard the enemy use the word "Seed," that it was like a lightning bolt had struck his mind.

However, the truth about "Seeds" and Legendary succession was not common knowledge. Skarner and Amani didn't understand. "What do you mean Groudon is dying? Is someone trying to kill it? And what are these 'Seeds'? Are the enemy trying to create a second Groudon?"

Time was short, and Arthur couldn't explain everything in detail. "I'll explain later. First, send the message to the doctor. Tell him to inform the Alliance. Emphasize that he should notify the Kubfu military garrison, but not the other alliances for now, especially Sinnoh."

"Hiss!" Amani felt that Arthur's words were getting more and more dangerous. "Are you saying...?"

"I don't believe a single private organization has the guts or the ambition to go after a Legendary. More importantly, what could they even do with a single Groudon? Do they really think one Legendary can conquer the world? That's a gross underestimation of the three major alliances. The only logical explanation is that they're working for one of the alliances. Because this kind of dishonorable act can't be exposed before it's successful, the alliance in question can't act directly, so they've hired a blade to do their dirty work."

Arthur's deduction was incredibly accurate. Dayna's current backer was, in fact, the Sinnoh League. If their plot against a Legendary were to be exposed, they would become a public enemy of the world. It would be a violation of the Great Reconciliation, a disruption of world peace. Sinnoh could not be openly involved, or even appear to know about it. This was where a group of former terrorists became useful.

If the plan succeeded, Groudon would be "confiscated" from the terrorists. If it failed, they would be "severely condemned" and "cracked down upon," with Sinnoh claiming no involvement. Arthur had also fought in the proxy wars in the desert in his past life, anonymously. He was familiar with the political machinations of the region.

Amani looked at him skeptically. "And you're so sure it's Sinnoh? What if it's the Kubfu Alliance behind it?" From her perspective, both were one of the world's three major powers, and both were equally suspect. The White Eagle Alliance had killed a dragon in the past; did she really think Sinnoh and Kubfu didn't want to?

But Arthur just smiled faintly. "I trust my own Alliance."

"..." Amani was speechless.

Of course, there was another, hidden reason Arthur didn't mention: the current leader of the Stitched Shadow Army, Dayna, probably still believed their former leader was a Kubfu spy. So, it was highly unlikely they would ever side with the Kubfu Alliance. But this information was too sensitive, and he couldn't share it with Amani and the others.

Finally, Arthur added, "Also, have the doctor notify Forrest." He was one of the few military contacts Arthur had, and the doctor also knew him. Amani nodded obediently.

After giving his instructions to the research team, Arthur turned to the Nidoking Chieftain and Celebi. With the intelligence taken care of, it was time for the battle plan.

He held up two fingers to the Nidoking Chieftain. "I have good news and bad news." Greninja was dutifully providing a simultaneous translation. The little dragonfly had wanted to do it, but Arthur had stopped her with a look. You just stay out of trouble.

"The good news is that your kidnapped kinsman is not in any immediate danger of losing his life. The enemy won't kill the Seeds they've captured until the current Groudon has truly passed away."

Hearing this, the Nidoking Chieftain breathed a sigh of relief.

But then, Arthur curled one finger, and his tone changed. "The bad news is, they won't just be holding the Seeds. They'll likely use brutal brainwashing techniques and physical conditioning to control them, to ensure that even if they become a Legendary, they won't be able to break free. So, your kinsman is still in great danger, and we don't have much time. If you want to save him, you must be prepared to fight with all your strength."

Hearing this, the little dragonfly's eyes lit up. Master is brilliant! First, he gives the Chieftain hope by telling him the Seed won't be killed. Then, he emphasizes the immediate danger and the urgency, putting double the pressure on him. With this one-two punch, the Chieftain is sure to be hooked.

Just as she thought, the Nidoking Chieftain immediately let out a deep rumble, its eyes firm. The meaning was clear: Alright, the Nido tribe will join the fight!

Arthur had successfully persuaded an entire tribe to join his cause.
