Chapter 1 - A Trial by Sparks and Steel

The beginning

In a world where magic flows through most living being, the Arcane Affinity is an essential part of life. From the moment they are born, individuals are gifted with the ability to harness one form of magic, such as fire, water, telekinesis, healing and even more. This innate power shapes societies, influences cultures, and defines relationships.

Magic is not merely a tool, it is a living force that responds to the emotions and intentions of its wielder. While not everyone possesses magical ability, most people do, and a select few even chose to delve deeper, embarking on a journey to amplify their powers. That's why humans decided to create ranks that helps them classify themselves, train rigorously, pushing the boundaries of what is possible and often becoming revered or feared within their communities.

In this world you can see enchanted woods filled with magical creatures, hidden paths leading to ancient secrets. Majestic Mountains with Towering peaks that challenge adventurers with treacherous climbs and breathtaking vistas. Tranquil waters that provide a peaceful retreat and opportunities for fishing and exploring. Ancient Ruins, Remnants of a forgotten civilization, rich in history and treasures waiting to be discovered. Nested within this stunning landscape are wonderful cities and villages with Diverse Cultures where Each village is distinct, showcasing its own traditions, architecture, and way of life. From marketplaces to calm countryside, every village has its charm, Villagers engage in daily activities, from farming and crafting weaponry and potions to storytelling around the hearth, creating a lively atmosphere.

Lucious Tempest is a 15 year old boy living in the small village of Emberwood who wish to explore the world, he knew the best way of doing that is by joining the The Arcane Order, sadly there is an age requirement to join them witch is 18, Now Lucious is waiting eagerly for his 18th birthday, one day, Lucious is of average height with a lean build resulting of years of training, and fair skin. His dark, slightly messy hair falls just above his shoulders, and his piercing grey eyes give him an intense, focused look. He has an angular face with high cheekbones and a strong jaw. His hands are long and graceful, suited for both sword and magic.woke up particularly happy, he rushed to his closet, puts on his clothes, and storms out of his house with His Katana resting at his side, as he stood in front of the ornate doors of The Arcane Order, his breath steady but his heart racing. He had spent years begging, pleading, and proving his worth to anyone who would listen. But today, finally, it seemed like his persistence was about to pay off.

The door creaked open, and a woman with an air of quiet authority appeared. She was dressed simply but with a certain elegance, her dark hair cascading in neat waves down her shoulders. Her eyes, a striking shade of green, held a flicker of amusement as they met his.

"Lucious," she said, with her voice joyful. "it's been so long since I last saw you."

He nodded, swallowing the mix of emotions swirling in his chest. "I've been waiting for this moment for a long time."

Elisa gave a small smile. "I still remember how you used to beg to join The Arcane Order. And never gave up even when you knew you didn't meet the age requirement."

-"yeah, it was a long time ago" His hands tightened around the straps of his bag, the weight of his journey settling on him. "I am ready. More than anyone else."

She studied him for a moment, the silence stretching between them. Then, she stepped aside, gesturing for him to enter. "Then come in, Lucious. I'll start with your application first today"

"Really, Thanks a lot miss Elysia"

-"Then let's start *Hand him a form* first you'll need to fill this form, nothing complicated just you name age etc"

*after a moment*

-"here it is miss"

-"alright now it's time to test your arcane affinity level witch will determine your Rank as an Arcanites, There are 7 Ranks SS , S , A , B , C , D, E and the lowest, F rank ,

You just have to put your hand on this sphere and ill tell you"

He stepped across the counter, his heart racing with a mixture of anticipation and fear. This was just the beginning, but it was a beginning that felt like it had taken a lifetime to reach.

-"There you go, I hope ill get a hight rank"

the light around the pedestal intensified, casting a soft glow over Lucious. The air felt thick with energy, and he could almost feel the magic swirling around them.

The light around him began to shift, growing brighter for a brief moment before it settled. Elisa glanced at the readings with a practiced eye. "E Rank," she said, her tone neutral, though it seemed to carry an edge of something else-perhaps disappointment, or perhaps just calculation.

Lucious's stomach sank. He had hoped for more. He had worked so hard, trained for years. E Rank was at the bottom of the scale.

"I know it's not what you hoped for," Elisa continued, her eyes softening just slightly, trying to confort him "but every journey begins somewhere. The Order doesn't expect perfection from the start. It expects growth. This is where you'll begin."

He swallowed, his pride stinging but his resolve hardening. "I'll prove that I can rise higher."

She gave him a small nod. "I expect you to. E Rank mages are given basic missions, tasks to build your skills. You will work your way up, but remember, it's not just about power. It's about control, discipline, and most importantly, the right use of magic."

Lucious took a deep breath. "I understand."

"Good," Elisa replied, her voice now firm but not unkind. "Welcome to The Arcane Order, Lucious. You have much to learn. Now follow me"

As he follows her she start explaining

-"Here is Central Hub or the gathering place for Arcanites, where they can share tales, form alliances, and plan their next quests. If you continue this way you'll see the Quest Board Where ill be handing you your quest and missions for rewards of course, behind this door you can find the Training Grounds, The order offers facilities for learning new techniques, and preparing for upcoming adventures. And finally here is the Events and Celebrations room where The order hosts seasonal festivals and competitions, fostering camaraderie among Arcanites. Any questions ?"

-"no, everything is cleare"

-"Good, before you start, Will you be taking missions alone, or would you prefer to join a team?"

Lucious blinked, taken aback by the question. He had always worked alone, trained alone-he was used to standing on his own, doing things at his own pace. But he knew, deep down, that this wasn't the time for that. This was The Arcane Order, and the stakes were much higher now.

"If I go alone, I'll be assigned easier tasks," he said, his voice steady, though there was a flicker of uncertainty. "But if I join a team... the missions will be more difficult, right?"

Elisa nodded. "Correct. A team will take on tougher challenges, but with those challenges come greater opportunities. You'll be able to push yourself, learn faster, and gain more recognition."

Lucious thought for a moment. He had never been one to rely on others, but he also knew that this was the fastest way to advance. The Arcane Order didn't just value raw power-they valued growth, experience, and the ability to work with others.

"I'll join a team," he said, the decision coming with surprising clarity. "I won't let my rank hold me back."

Elisa raised an eyebrow, impressed by his answer. "Very well. There are teams with a range of skills and specialties. You'll be assigned based on your skills, but be prepared your teamare exactely like you, they got low ranks and want to prove themselves. They'll expect you to keep up."

Lucious nodded, his determination already setting in. "I won't disappoint."

"Good." Elisa gave a small smile, as if satisfied with his response. "Then you'll begin training with your team soon. Prepare yourself-The Arcane Order doesn't ease you into challenges. They'll make you face them head-on. Tomorrow, at 9 AM sharp," she said, her voice warm but direct. "Meet your team in the training grounds. It's important you arrive on time. You'll be joining a group of D Rank arcanites. They don't wait for anyone."

Lucious nodded, his mind racing with the weight of her words. "I'll be there. 9 AM. I won't be late."

Elisa's smile deepened. "Good. I'm looking forward to seeing how you handle this."

The next morning, Lucious found himself rushing through the hallways of The Arcane Order, his mind focused only on getting to the training ground on time. But as he glanced at his wrist, he realized with a sinking feeling that it was already 9:15 AM.

He pushed himself harder, adrenaline spurring him forward. When he reached the training grounds, his heart sank-there was no sign of his team.

Elisa stood by the far edge of the yard, arms crossed, waiting. She saw him approach, her expression calm, but her eyes held a flicker of expectation.

"You're late," Elisa said, her tone not harsh but still carrying the weight of her disappointment.

Lucious's breath caught in his chest. "I-I'm sorry, I lost track of time."

Elisa's smile remained, soft and kind. "You mustn't let distractions interfere. Time is precious, Lucious. In the field, your team won't wait for you."

He swallowed hard. "I understand, I won't make the same mistake again."

Elisa gave a nod, not angry, but firm. "Good. Your team is inside. Follow me, and I'll introduce you."

They walked toward the inner yard, where a group of mages stood in a loose formation, waiting. As Lucious approached, one of the team members- tall frame loomed over Lucious, dark hair. His piercing blue eyes flashed with fury, his jaw clenched tight, and his lean muscles tensed stepped forward, his expression tight with frustration.

"Late?" he growled, his voice thick with irritation. "We're not here to play games. The Order doesn't tolerate this kind of sloppiness."

Lucious's stomach churned under the weight of the man's anger. He opened his mouth to apologize again, but Elisa was already stepping between them, her gentle hand raised to calm the tension.

"That's enough, Aldric," Elisa said softly, her voice soothing but firm. "Lucious has made an honest mistake. We're here to teach, not to tear each other down. And Lucious is only one rank below you, I'm sure he'll catch up quickly."

Aldric shot her a glare, but Elisa's presence was enough to quiet his anger. He grumbled something under his breath but stepped back, crossing his arms in silent disapproval.

Lucious exhaled, feeling the pressure lighten a little. Elisa turned to him, her smile warm once more. "You'll have the chance to prove yourself. Don't let one mistake define you. This is a team, Lucious. We work together always."

He nodded, grateful for her calm and understanding nature, but also determined to show that he was ready for the challenges ahead. She pointed to the woman with flowing brown hair and a yellow eyes that reflect a serene expression. "This is Elara Willowbloom," Elisa said. "A talented light mage, she's skilled in controlling light, using it in damage and offence not to mention support she can draw strength from the sun and any light sources around her. Like you, she's a new Arcanite, and she's D Rank."

Lucious nodded, taking in her calming presence.

Then Elisa turned to the tall, imposing figure next to her. Aldric Stormrider stood with his arms crossed, a cocky smirk playing on his lips.

"I'm Aldric Stormrider," he said, his voice booming with self-assuredness. "The strongest here. So you better follow my commands if you want to survive. I'm D Rank, like the rest of them."

As he finished his sentence, Lucious said with a challenging voice "who said you are the strongest?"

Aldric- "What do you mean, you can't even come at the requested time, and I know you are the weakest here, you're just some low E ranker so you better not disturb me while I'm fighting."

- Lucious tilted his head, a cold smile crossing his face. "So, what? You're just one rank above me? I'm going to catch you in no time," he said, his tone sharp and challenging. "And I'm sure I could take you on right here and right now."

Aldric's grin faltered for a moment, his eyes narrowing as the words sank in. He stepped forward,"Is that so? You think you're ready to take on someone like me?"

Lucious's eyes never wavered. "I don't need to be as strong as you to beat you. I know my limits, and you're not invincible." Aldric started laughing. "Im not invincible you say, hope you're not all talk and no action."

Lucious smirked. "don't worry about that", Aldric visibly angry got out a pair of daggers "only one way to know.".

Their fight is imminent and nothing can stop it.

The sun hung low in the sky as the training ground buzzed with tension. Lucious stood across from Aldric, his hand resting lightly on the hilt of his sword. The blade gleamed in the waning light, a stark contrast to Aldric's flashing daggers.

Elara and Elisa stood at the edges of the field, both watching carefully, though Elara's eyes held a quiet concern. Elisa, ever the kindhearted one, glanced between the two men, silently wishing for them to hold back, but knowing it would be futile. The air between the two was charged with unspoken rivalry.

"You sure you're ready for this?, you might never recover" Aldric's voice was laced with a smirk, his daggers gleaming as he spun them in his hands. His posture was loose, relaxed, and full of arrogance.

Lucious tightened his grip on his sword, a fierce spark in his eyes. "I'm ready to see if you can back up your talk." He wasn't about to let Aldric think he was the superior. There was a burning need to prove himself.

Elara took a step forward, raising a hand as though to stop them, but Elisa put a hand on her shoulder, shaking her head softly.

"They need this," Elisa whispered. "Let them settle it."

The fight began with Aldric's speed. In a flash, he was upon Lucious, his daggers cutting through the air in a blur. Lucious reacted swiftly, his hand pulling the blade from its sheath just in time to deflect the first strike. He felt the electric pulse as Aldric's daggers narrowly missed, but it was already too late-Aldric's second strike was almost upon him, Lucious did something unexpected. In an instant, he vanished. He wasn't in front of Aldric anymore.

Aldric hesitated, looking around, trying to locate him. Where the hell did he go? But his instincts were sharp, and he spun around just in time to see Lucious reappear several feet away, sword drawn, ready for the next strike.

Aldric smirked. "Interesting," he muttered under his breath. So, his arcane was some form of space manipulation, a trick to shift out of range in the blink of an eye.Lets see what will happen if I take it to the next level. Suddenly Electricity started flowing around his body, Lucious's mind raced. So his arcane is lighting, interesting... This is not going to be easy. Aldric didn't hesitate. He smirked as he threw one of his daggers, the weapon crackling with lightning. Lucious tried to teleport again, but the dagger was still too fast. This time, he only managed to dodge by a hair, feeling the intense surge of energy from Aldric's lightning graze his side. The shock left his muscles twitching in discomfort.

"Not bad," Aldric said, a flicker of excitement in his voice as he charged again, this time faster, his lightning-enhanced nerves making him almost a blur of motion.

Lucious's sword cut through the air, the blade meeting Aldric's next attack with a sharp clash. He was going faster. Aldric, chocked"What?, how is this possible," he muttered under his breath. So, his arcane must be something else, I think I was right about the space, but maybe there is more in to it, could it be that he can also control time itself, speeding himself in the process, I need to go faster. It was becoming harder for Lucious to keep up with Aldric's speed. The energy it took to warp time itself was draining, and Lucious could feel his body beginning to tire. Aldric felt that and decided to put everything he had left in a single attack, as he passed threw Lucious's defence, "Too slow," he said, stepping forward with lightning-quick speed. He closed the distance before Lucious could react, and in a blur of motion, his dagger struck, sending a jolt of electricity through Lucious's body.

The shock was intense, sending Lucious to his knees. He shook his head, trying to clear the dizziness that clouded his vision. He could feel the exhaustion creeping into his muscles. I can't keep this up...

Aldric stood over him, his expression still full of cocky confidence. "I told you, I don't go easy on anyone."

Lucious tried to push himself up, but the weight of his own fatigue was too much. His legs shook beneath him, and he could feel his energy reserves running low. He had underestimated Aldric's strength-and that had cost him. Lucious sat on the ground, catching his breath, his muscles still aching from the electric shocks coursing through his body. His hands trembled slightly as he steadied himself, the fight's intensity still lingering in his bones.

A warm glow surrounded him, gentle and soothing, as Elara knelt beside him. Her hands shimmered with soft golden light, her touch sending waves of warmth through his body. The pain eased, his breathing steadied, but fatigue still clung to him.

"You pushed yourself too far," Elara murmured, her tone calm but firm. "You'll need at least a week to recover fully."

Lucious exhaled sharply, his pride stinging more than his injuries. A week. He hated the thought of being out of commission for that long, but Elara's magic didn't lie.

Before he could respond, Elisa approached, arms crossed, her usual friendly demeanor carrying a hint of authority. "Perfect timing," she said. "Your first mission is in one week."

Lucious and Aldric both looked up at her.

Elisa smiled. "Rest up while you can. You'll need it."

With that, the moment of battle passed, and reality settled in. Their first real mission was set.

As the sun hung high in the sky, the three of them left the training grounds, each lost in their own thoughts. Lucious still felt the weight of defeat, but he wouldn't let it stop him. Aldric, victorious, walked with quiet confidence. And Elara, ever composed, stayed by their side, already thinking ahead.

They had a week to prepare. A week before their journey as Arcanites truly began.
