Chapter 14 - ch 14 (the hobgoblin's book)

"Stand tall young ones! you have passed the trials!" I felt a pride well up in my chest as the chieftain spoke to us. Looking around I see my classmates just as hyped as I was. Some were shaking in their spots and others where jumping for joy. This was it. I'm getting closer to my goals. The chieftain handed out our gear for our new roles. I wish he did a better job at procuring them as they were still covered in mud or rust. But none the less, they were mine now.

Day 2

It was the first day of my new job. I still couldn't believe it. ME. an explorer for our tribe! better have been one too. Those torturous things called "books " really made my head hurt. why do humans give this to children!? The chieftain gathered us together as he introduced us to our jobs. We were to gather stuff we found and bring it back to the tribe for further use. The reward- tree sap! delicious, wonderful tree sap...I wasted no time. The trees towered over me as I dashed through the area for awhile. The most I could find however was a bush of raspberries. But hey! the info was a lot more than what the others was, which was nothing. Oh how wonderful the looks of frustration and envy were.

 day 8

almost an entire week has passed and I have been keeping a good streak so far. I fond food, water sources, and even an old dagger just yesterday! The sap I enjoyed right after couldn't have been richer. The elders of the exploration camp have also taken notice of my outstanding performance. GolGol had to hold up his part of the bet and eat a centipede. It was truly a learning experience as I have never seen a goblin turn greener in my life.

day 9

It finally happened. The elders allowed me to pick a Grand Reward! if I hadn't restrained myself, I would have started dancing right then and there. I asked for writing tools and scrolls. A few eyebrows were made at my request but they still agreed. Soon I will finally be able to capture the world in a moment- never changing and full of beauty.

day 40

a month has passed since i got my tools. At first, my work was...sloppy. the mountains looked more like stairs and the trees a blob of ink. But it has been better. Now i can understand what I'm looking at along with others. They look at me as if I was weird though. The dunces, no appreciation for art.

day 226

My day was going as it would as usual. Ready up, head out, collet stuff, return home. At the time I was dreaming of my next works of art. A pain like no other struck my head. I grabbed the sides of my head as I wailed in agony. I blacked out, my nose hitting the soil of the forest. By the time I came too, I was in the healing portion of the cave. I Had gotten up but then realized that everything seemed...closer to the ground. Even the heal shaman when she trotted in. Turns out, I had grown into the next stage of my life-A "hobgoblin" as the books described it. A creature of legend that only the chieftain had become. I couldn't believe it. I became something so rare! The tribe should be in celebration at the thought. Maybe even in a festive mood. but reality always comes to break fantasies. Not even an hour after I had gotten out of the place was I forced out. Apparently their couldn't be TWO leaders for a tribe. Luckily the chieftain saw me in good favor, having me banished instead of killed. It still hurt that I had to leave the only home I had ever known. But at least now I can focus on my goals. I could even get MY future tribe to help me!

 day 600

Its been over a year. So much had happened since I last wrote in this. I found a mate, a cave to call home and a weapon to call my own. It was a bit heavy, But I could still swing it. My descendants are already being nurtured to create parties, a term I found to represent force when I almost died by one. I couldn't have been happier with what I have achieved for myself

day 1569

Its all gone. all of it. We were partying as the 3rd generation of explores returned home. They had brought more sap and even a drink I later learned was called booze. Probably why the adventurers had come looking for us specifically. We hadn't even hurt their people. And yet, all because of some STUPID DRINK they burnt my family to the ground! Their cries will forever haunt my nightmares. But I am sure that I repaid the faver when I sent them to meet their makers. My they rot wherever they are.

Day 1871

Fate is a cruel thing. For the past year I have tried to build everything I had again. My maps, my dreams, my...home. Yet again. AGAIN! THEY destroyed it ALL! I escaped my newest pursuers, but I could feel that my heart had grown cold. With my strength, I had forcefully taken over another tribes area, killing the chieftain then and replacing him. Now, these goblins roam the forest, killing and plundering from the humans that enter. I have grown tired of losing everything each time.

Day 2025

THOSE INCOMPETENT patrols! they were supposed to kill those that trespassed, to make them never appear n my sight! How they fail me! A human mage barged into the caverns, throwing balls of fire from that stick in his hand. The fight was tough, yet I had still prevailed. As I went to kill him, a thought occurred to me. Why? Why do they chase me so far? so I asked him. The answer I got made every thing clear to me. He first chuckled before he told me "Our god had grown unhappy with you, so he sent us to chase you down." What god could I have possibly angered? his response- the one that inspired dreams and took yours. The rage took over then. His body became a great example at my door. But even then, I still couldn't fully believe what I was told. So because of justice against those that took from me, you punish me by taking my family!? FINE THEN! SEE HOW I SLAUGHTER YOUR SO CALLED DREAMERS! I WILL LAUGH AS THEY FALL TO THEIR KNEES IN DESPAIR AND AGONY!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gabe closed the old journal after reading it aloud. "So that why boss act like that. Now feel sorry for him, if only little." Gobsung continues to talk, but Gabe couldn't hear it, to lost in his thoughts processing the new info he had learned. 'So a wrathful god befell this creature? and it resides over dreams? now that is a nightmare to know that some powerful thing could just ruin your entire life with just a thought. But what's more interesting is that there is actually civilization nearby!' A sharp impact on his back rouses Gabe from his thoughts. "Rude. What we do now though." Seeing the shaman giving an annoyed glare for being ignored, Gabe gave a quick apology before laying out his plan. "We are going to find a city and become adventurers."
