CASEY
Caesar still hadn't replied.
Not even a double tick on the message. Not a "seen." Not a sarcastic one-liner. Not a "fine."
Nothing. And that… that silence was loud. It echoed in every beat of every song playing in the hall.
Every time my phone buzzed, I felt my stomach clench, thinking it was him. But no. not Caesar. He hadn't said anything. And that made everything feel like it was ticking. Like a bomb.
Here I was, heels clicking on a marble floor, laughing with Leanna, who still didn't know anything and all the while, somewhere out there, Caesar was probably realising he'd been played.
And I wasn't even sure why I was panicking so much. We weren't together. Not really.
I know I agreed to be his girlfriend on the downlow but...As I stood there beside a laughing Leanna, trying to smile through my nerves, I knew I had crossed a line. And eventually… Caesar was going to cross it back.
