What was his wife's role in this, and how could she be dead and alive at the same time? The thought was twisting his head as he had no answers to any of them. And the fact that he could only get to see Kuhn when he went to Nightbrook wasn't helping.
"What are you thinking of?" Belle asked, noticing how silent he had gone and how lost in thought he looked.
Rohan's body was like a warm wall as he pulled her closer to him under the covers, breaking out of his thoughts. His touch was amazingly gentle as he stroked her hair, and she closed her eyes. How lovely to stay here forever in this bubble of contentment, floating away in quiet happiness.
"Nothing." He kissed her forehead.
"Will Rav bring us new clothes?" she asked quietly.
"He will."
"I haven't thanked you yet for yesterday," Belle said as she looked up at his face. "I had the best birthday ever in all of my twenty-five years of life."
