And they had breakthroughs with it way earlier than they thought they'd obtain results, which was due to the research they had already carried out while focusing on the Damphir project.
And the results were good, having refined their techniques with the first serum.

The serum he made from the werewolf DNA he had was mediocre than the Damphir Serum, but that didn't matter much as the point of the experiments was to make a perfectly stable serum before they started on adding more to the serum.
But the Werewolf or as he had named it, the Half-Moon Serum had something interesting in its flavour text though.
Alpha Shard? What was that?
And as if his ability [Aura Analysis] was reading his mind, the words suffer glowed before a screen popped up from it.

Seeing the text, Markus grinned, excited at the prospect that he could create Alphas of his own.
But then a moment later he frowned, he did not know what could cause the Alpha Shard to even appear as it was not something he had coded inside the serum.
But that didn't deter him, it only seemed to make him even more curious of the secrets hidden inside the supernaturals genes.
And he grinned thinking of one day unravelling those secrets, but for now he was met with a problem.
With the increase in workforce Markus noticed that their research focus, vampire DNA and Werewolf DNA was dwindling even if they used a small amount everytime for research or experimentations.
With the small amount of vampire blood and werewolf hair they had left, they would run out in a day.
So now he had little options on how to obtain more genetic material.
One of them was to extract the Vampire DNA from their ex-hunter prisoner periodically but that wouldn't do.
She was half human and the vampire DNA had already changed and adapted to Intergrate with the human DNA, so research data obtained from her would be useless as they already understood everything she had to offer.
Then there was the option to send out a team of clones to hunt were creatures for him, he already knew a few bases of some vampire Covens already and he probably could grab one of Peters betas if he wanted to.
But that plan had flaws in it, vampires wouldn't take one of their own disappearing kindly and he didn't know if they had ways to find their kind in the case of capture.
Capturing one of Peters betas also had the same issue. Alphas had a connection to their betas, he wasn't that knowledgeable enough in that link to know whether that link could give away his location or not.
So he'd need to kill the captured supernaturals immediately before extracting what he could and running.
But that seemed to risky so he resorted to something more tame.
He still had the DNA of the Vampire and Werewolf.
And with his capabilities in bioengineering and tech, he could create a biological culturing machine.
Instead of running around killing which would draw attention to him, he could instead grow the DNA in the safety of his lab.
Normally culturing DNA would take time, but he had magic to offset that and a varying amount of skills that would make the process a whole lot easier.
So with two serums perfectly ready and applicable, with plans of culturing more DNA for their experiments he could start his creating his 'endgame' serum.
Next, instead of splicing human DNA and Supernatural DNA, he'd now move on to animal and human DNA and then Animal and Supernatural DNA to really create Chimeras he wanted.
And when everything was ready, it would finally be time to go back home, and wreck some havoc.
