Chapter 19.
Loki was the first to arrive at the end of the Bifrost. Without hesitation, he activated it at full power and locked its target on Jotunheim.
The Bifrost wasn't just a long distance travelling device — it was also a terrifying superweapon capable of wiping out entire planets. At full power, it could completely obliterate Jotunheim and wipe out every last Frost Giant from the face of the Universe.
In his desperate bid to gain Odin's approval, Loki had gone mad. Even after learning that he himself was a Frost Giant by blood, he still resolved to wipe out his entire race. His ruthlessness was beyond belief, so was his drive to prove himself worthy.
A brilliant, multicolored beam of destructive energy blasted toward Jotunheim. Without their king to lead them, the Frost Giants were like scattered sand. Faced with such a devastating attack, they fled in panic.
Screams, cries, and rage echoed across Jotunheim as countless Frost Giants perished. They would never know that the one behind this devastation was also a Frost Giant himself.
Just as the destruction began, Thor finally arrived with Mjölnir in hand. Oddly enough, despite Loki traveling on horseback, he'd beaten Thor, who had been flying.
"Loki! What have you done?!" Thor demanded, eyes wide as he saw the Bifrost attack's surging with uncontrollable energy.
"What have I done?" Loki's eyes were like a maniac, his voice loud and defensive. "I did what you should have done long before! I ended the endless war between Asgard and Jotunheim. I did it to prove I am WORTHY, more worthy than you to be king!"
"No!" Thor roared. "You'll destroy Jotunheim! You're committing genocide, Loki! We can't become butchers!"
Thor had changed during his time on Earth. He finally understood what Odin had meant about the burden of leadership — that a true king never starts wars for pride. Wars brought only endless suffering.
"Midgard has made you soft, brother?" Loki sneered. "The same Thor who stormed into Jotunheim like a war-hungry fool now wants to preach for peace now? How ironic, let me guess—it's because of that mortal girl, what is her name, Jane, isn't it?"
A flash of jealousy crossed Loki's face.
"After I finish things here, maybe I'll go see her myself."
"I won't let you!" Thor shouted, lightning dancing across his body as his fury ignited. He charged at Loki, power surging through him like a storm.
Loki met him head-on with Odin's weapon itself— the Eternal Spear — in both hands. But it was no contest.
Thor struck first, blasting Loki away with a thunderous blow. Despite wielding the Eternal Spear, Loki couldn't withstand a single hit from Thor in his current state.
"Is this the power of Asgard's bloodline?" Loki muttered in disbelief as he crashed to the ground. He had expected to stall Thor long enough for the Bifrost to complete its intended attack. He never imagined Thor had grown this powerful.
"Father?! Why are you here?" Loki suddenly said, his tone shifting as he looked behind Thor, feigning surprise and respect.
Thor, caught off guard, turned instinctively to look.
Big mistake.
Loki's sly grin returned instantly. With all his remaining strength, he raised the Eternal Spear and fired a blinding golden energy beam directly at Thor's back.
The blast sent Thor flying like a ragdoll. He slammed into the bridge, blood splattering from his chest. He lay dazed, the hit having done serious damage. And that wasn't even the full power of the Eternal Spear.
Loki didn't waste a second. He rushed in, ready to finish Thor while he was down.
Thor, still groggy, barely managed to defend himself. Loki kept pressing, striking again and again while Thor blocked, unable to counter.
Thor's eyes darted toward the Bifrost. The energy continued to gather. There wasn't much time. If he didn't stop it now, Jotunheim would be reduced to ashes.
With no choice, and setting aside his reluctance to hurt Loki, Thor unleashed his divine power fully. He summoned a bolt of lightning and brought Mjölnir down with all his might.
The thunderous strike sent Loki flying like a broken kite, flung toward the edge of the bridge.
Loki barely managed to grab the edge, hanging on with one hand. His face twisted in pain, he looked up and called out weakly, "Help me… that last hit… I'm seriously hurt… I can't hold on…"
"Loki–, I won't fall for your tricks again!" Thor growled, still wary.
"This time I'm not lying, brother… I swear… Please…"
The word "brother" hit Thor like a hammer to the heart. He paused, unsure.
"I don't blame you… It was all me," Loki said softly, almost like a confession. And with that, he let go.
"No!!" Thor screamed, diving forward in a desperate attempt to catch him.
But he was too late. His hand closed around empty air as Loki vanished into the abyss below.
Thor collapsed on the bridge, staring blankly into the void. Loki's final glance haunted him, filled with emotion not blame, but acceptance.
Tears welled in Thor's eyes. His heart ached with regret. Why hadn't I acted sooner?
He stayed there for minutes, drowning in guilt and sorrow. When he finally composed himself, he wiped away the tears and turned toward the Bifrost — now overflowing with energy.
It was still activated and it was now or never.
"Jane, forgive me! I have to do this."
"Brother, forgive me! I won't let you become the sinner who slaughtered an entire race!"
Thor stood, his grief fueling his power. Lightning crackled wildly around him, his aura more overwhelming than ever.
Rising into the sky, Thor raised Mjölnir high and brought it down with a roar, aiming directly at the Bifrost — intent on destroying it, even if it meant severing Asgard's connection to the Nine Realms forever.
"No!!!"
"Thor, stop! If you destroy the bridge, you'll never see that Midgardian woman again!"
A figure appeared suddenly, rushing at him with a spear — trying desperately to stop him.
But the moment Thor heard that familiar voice, his blood-red eyes flickered, and his expression turned cold.
"Loki you tricked me again!"
Realizing he'd been played, Thor burned with fury. But he had no time to deal with Loki now. With –all his strength, he brought down Mjölnir — now wrapped in violent thunder — onto the Bifrost.
BOOM!!!
A deafening explosion echoed across Asgard. Citizens turned toward the noise in shock, wondering if someone had dared to invade their realm.
The Bifrost shattered under Thor's hammer. His power had grown immensely — far beyond what he once was. In the original timeline, it took Thor multiple strikes to destroy the bridge. Now, it crumbled with a single blow.
Since the bridge was channeling immense energy at that moment, its destruction triggered a catastrophic backlash. The raging power surged through the water beneath, causing it to erupt like a tsunami.
Thor — and the figure behind him — were both blown away by the shockwave. The bridge cracked like broken glass beneath their feet, fracturing further with each passing second.
Without the bridge's energy core intact, the rainbow beam faded into nothingness. The circular mechanism that powered it sputtered and fell still, damaged beyond repair. Jagged fragments lay scattered, evidence that the Bifrost could never function again.
If nothing changed, both Thor and Loki would fall into the swirling abyss of time and space — lost forever.
At that critical moment, a figure appeared at the very edge of the broken bridge — as if teleported.
Odin.
He reached out and grabbed Thor's hand. Thor, in turn, latched onto the Eternal Spear that Loki was holding.
"I could've done it, Father!" Loki cried full of emotions.
"I could've ended this war! For you! For all of Asgard!"
At that moment, Loki sounded like a desperate child — longing for the praise and approval he had never received.
"No, Loki," Odin said firmly. "This was not the way."
Loki's expression twisted in pain. So it was true — no matter what he did, he could never replace Thor in Odin's heart.
Resigned and heartbroken, Loki let go of the spear.
"Loki!!!" Thor screamed, his voice echoing through the void.
But it was too late.
Loki fell silently into the storm of space-time below.
From afar, many Asgardians watched the entire scene unfold. Their expressions varied — some shocked, others thoughtful.
Li Yue had witnessed everything.
"Odin, what a cunning old fox…"
He didn't believe for a second that Odin just happened to wake up at the perfect moment. Either Odin had never truly fallen into deep sleep, or he had awoken long ago.
If Odin had been conscious, yet didn't stop Loki earlier, it could only mean one thing: he allowed Loki's actions to proceed.
Maybe Odin also wanted Jotunheim destroyed maybe he too wished to end the Frost Giant race, afterall he let Loki kill the King of the Frost Giant, Laufey, his own father. But when things spiraled out of control — and Thor destroyed the Bifrost — Odin had no choice but to step in.
He couldn't let Thor know he supported Loki's plan. He had to play the role of the disappointed father.
But Odin clearly didn't expect Loki to let go.
He valued Loki deeply — not just as a political pawn, but also as a son. Still, Odin had already chosen his successor in his mind.
There could only be one king of Asgard. And that king was Thor.
"So," Li Yue thought to himself, "never underestimate anyone. Even Odin, the so-called benevolent All-Father, is a schemer."
Then again there are exceptions.
Like Thor — who, despite living over 1,500 years, still had a hilariously low IQ and EQ.
Oh, and Star-Lord too. Wherever that idiot was now. He is a pure dumbass.
And Drax the Destroyer? Yeah. Don't even start about him too.
Come to think of it, the Marvel Universe wasn't exactly short on fools. Li Yue couldn't help but chuckle.
The show was over. By all rights, it was time to head back to Earth. But Li Yue wasn't satisfied. He'd come all the way to Asgard and had only watched a family soap opera — he didn't even get popcorn!
So, he decided to stick around a little longer.
Who knows? Maybe he'd meet Odin personally. And with his knowledge of the future, he might even strike a deal or two.
If nothing else, he could enjoy the local customs and build a closer friendship with Thor.
And that was always a good investment.
Li Yue had evolved his body to about 60-70% of Thor's physical level. His inner energy was even more powerful — when converted into thunder god power, it could match Thor at full strength.
But he wasn't done yet.
If he could push his evolution further, he'd unlock power beyond even Asgardian limits.
Asgard was quiet.
Thor, though still reeling from Loki's loss, had come to terms with it.
"Li Yue! You're still here?" Thor smiled when he saw him again.
"Perfect! We're holding a feast tonight — you must join us. Asgardian wine is the finest and strongest in all of Nine Realms!"
Li Yue smiled back. "Well, I'd be rude to refuse such hospitality!"
This was his first time attending an Asgardian banquet — and god, were they lively.
Everyone was curious about Li Yue, the mysterious Midgardian. They crowded around him, toasting him non-stop.
Under the relentless wave of drinks, Li Yue couldn't say no. He clinked glasses with everyone, laughing and drinking like a local.
Asgardian alcohol was no joke.
Before long, Li Yue collapsed face-first onto the table, completely "drunk." Thor and the others burst out laughing and carried him to a nearby room to rest.
But as soon as they left—
Li Yue sat up, perfectly sober. A sly smile tugged at his lips.
"You'll need more than alcohol to take me down…"
The Next Day – Odin's Palace, Asgard
Odin, seated on his golden throne, gripped the Eternal Spear. Frigga stood beside him.
He stared at Thor, who now stood confidently before him.
Thor had regained his divine power. But more importantly — he'd grown both in mentality and strength.
He no longer needed Mjölnir to channel his strength. He could command his powers freely.
Odin was deeply impressed.
This progress exceeded even what he had foreseen. His visions of the future had shown him the coming of Ragnarök — the Twilight of the Gods.
He thought of the fire giant, Surtur. Long ago, Odin and his brothers had battled Surtur to prevent this fate.
But the signs were returning…
But they discovered that Surtur could not be killed. In order to delay the arrival of Ragnarök—the Twilight of the Gods—Odin and his two brothers stole Surtur's source of power, the Eternal Flame. (It is now stored in Odin's Treasury.)
Odin's brothers, Vili and –Vé, willingly stayed behind to help delay the inevitable and permanently sealed the path to Muspelheim. They transferred their power to Odin, which gave rise to what is known as the "Power of Odin."
In essence, Odin inherited the strength of all of his three brothers, the full power of the Heavenly Fathers.
Still, Ragnarök would eventually descend upon Asgard—this was unavoidable. This was why Odin was so desperate for Thor to grow stronger. Odin, now old and weary, could no longer contain the vast divine power flowing through his body. Asgardians grows stronger as they age and same was true for Odin. He has long reached an unprecedented level of power. But Death was approaching, Asgardians grows with power as they age and they have long lifespans when compared to midgardians but they still age and are not ageless.
But now, something had changed. The future had shifted in an unpredictable way. Even someone as powerful as Odin could no longer peer into the threads of fate. This stunned him—and ignited a flicker of hope.
"Thor, how have you made such tremendous progress in such a short amount of period?"
The changes in the timeline went beyond anything Odin had foreseen. He needed to understand what—or who—had shifted Thor's destiny. As this directly concerned Asgard's future, it was of utmost importance.
"Father," Thor replied respectfully, "I believe it's because of a Midgardian man. When I lost my divine power and was stripped of my strength, he taught me something important—that power doesn't come from others, but from within."
"He even demonstrated how to control divine power. But at the time, I couldn't replicate what he did. Not until later when the Destroyer arrived."
Thor shared everything he knew about Li Yue, including Li Yue's strange ability to control thunder and divine power. He spoke without reservation.
"A Midgardian who can control thunder?"
Odin fell into deep thought. It was the first time he had encountered such a thing. But then he suddenly recalled a moment—someone had broken the spell he had cast on Mjölnir. At the time, he couldn't tell who it was. But now, it made sense—it must have been him.
"The one who could bypass my enchantment and lift Thor's hammer must be someone pure of heart and righteous in character," Odin concluded, convinced. "To entrust Asgard's fate to such a soul may not be a bad idea after all."
Odin didn't believe Li Yue was more powerful than himself. But to wield Mjölnir without divine lineage—this, to Odin, was a recognition by the hammer itself.
Not even the Sorcerer Supreme of Midgard, the Ancient One, could forcibly lift Mjölnir. So Odin's assumptions were understandable… even if they were wrong.
The truth was, Li Yue had lifted the hammer entirely by accident.
"Father, he is currently in Asgard. Would you like to meet him?"
Thor, watching his father in silent contemplation, finally asked in a soft voice.
"Oh? He's here in Asgard now? Did he arrive with you on the Bifrost?"
As soon as Odin heard this, he released his divine sense—a surge of immense spiritual power swept invisibly across all of Asgard like a ripple in space.
At that very moment…
Li Yue hadn't slept all night. Instead, his soul had left his body to cultivate in peace. Surprisingly, Asgard's energy density was much greater than that of Earth, and his absorption rate had significantly improved.
By now, the third star in his consciousness had fully lit up. With a single thought, Li Yue could travel to the next world. He had finally learned how to fully control his dimensional ability—no more accidental time-space shifts.
However, he wasn't done in Asgard. He had no intention of leaving just yet. He didn't even know what world lay ahead, so it was better to prepare well before taking the leap.
Not long after Li Yue woke up, the three warriors of Asgard—Volstagg, Hogun, and Fandral—came to fetch him. They wanted to drink, feast, and spar with him.
Physically and mentally drained, Li Yue eventually managed to escape their clutches and returned to his room. He intended to meditate a little more, so his soul once again exited his body, sitting cross-legged in mid-air.
But before he could begin, a sudden wave of overwhelming pressure surged over him—startling him into snapping back into his physical body instantly.
Then he felt it.
An immense divine consciousness washed over him. It carried a presence so majestic and commanding that it crushed any –thought of resistance in him.
"This presence it could only belong to Odin, the God King!"
Li Yue breathed a sigh of relief. Thankfully, the divine sense was only observational—there was no hint of aggression in it.
But now he had felt Odin's power firsthand. It was worthy of the title "Lord of the Nine Realms"—a being of Heavenly Father-level strength, maybe even stronger as he had reached his heyday.
Li Yue had no doubt. Odin now knew he was in Asgard and it wouldn't be long before the Allfather summoned him.
Sure enough, just a few minutes later, a palace guard knocked gently on Li Yue's door. His tone was respectful as he announced,
"The Allfather, Godking Odin, requests your presence."
Li Yue nodded without hesitation and motioned for the guard to lead the way.
He followed the escort through the golden halls of Asgard, eventually arriving at Odin's palace. Along the way, Li Yue glanced up at the grand murals painted across the arched ceilings. The artwork depicted scenes of Odin's glorious conquests and victories across the Nine Realms.
But Li Yue knew better.
He could see through the grandeur—he knew many –of the darker truths had been omitted. For instance, the existence of Odin's eldest daughter, Hela... a part of Asgard's history that had been deliberately erased.
As Li Yue silently admired the majesty of the Eternal Palace, they arrived at the inner chamber where Odin awaited. The guard stopped at the entrance and motioned respectfully for Li Yue to proceed alone.
"Thank you," Li Yue said calmly, stepping forward.
Though this was his first face-to-face meeting with Odin, Li Yue didn't feel the slightest fear. He was confident in his ability to escape if things turned hostile—even if Odin attacked, Li Yue could open a portal and leap to another world.
After all, Odin may be overwhelming powerful, but crossing into different universes to hunt someone? That was a different matter entirely.
Still, Li Yue didn't believe Odin had any intention of harming him. If that were the case, he wouldn't have extended a formal invitation.
"Li Yue of Midgard greets the GodKing and the Queen."
As he entered the hall, the first thing he noticed was Thor standing to the side with a grin on his face, clearly amused by the formal encounter.
Li Yue's gaze then moved to the center of the grand throne room, where Odin sat in regal silence, his aura calm yet commanding. At his side stood Queen Frigga, dignified and serene.
With respectful composure, Li Yue stepped forward and clasped his fists with both hands in a polite gesture of greeting. Though he held no fear, he still showed due respect to those with strength.
