Chapter 23.
"I need to forge a weapon from gold-palladium alloy!"
"What are you talking about? Gold-palladium? What even is that?"
Both Eitri and Thor were stunned, completely confused by Li Yue's request.
With no other option, Li Yue explained the entire weapon design to Eitri—its appearance, function, dimensions, style—down to every fine detail. After listening intently, Eitri finally understood what kind of weapon Li Yue was envisioning.
"Huh... I've never heard of a weapon like that. Not quite a gun and not quite a blade... But that's not a problem for us dwarves! We'll just need to make a custom mold, though, so it'll take some time."
"No problem," Li Yue replied calmly. Waiting a bit wasn't an issue—he was patient.
"Let's start with Thor's weapon first," Eitri suggested. "We've already got a mold ready. It's for a king-tier artifact—very powerful. Theoretically, it can summon the Bifrost, and it's even on par with your father's weapon in pure power, the Eternal Spear."
Eitri's voice dropped a little for dramatic effect as he emphasized the artifact's might.
"It can summon the Bifrost? What's it called?" Thor's eyes lit up at the thought. He looked at Li Yue, wondering—did he already know about this? After all, Li Yue had mentioned he'd be able to return to Earth to see Jane even without relying on his own powers.
Could it be this weapon?
Eitri leaned in and declared with gravity:
"Its name is... Stormbreaker!"
He delivered the name with dramatic flair, expecting awe.
Unfortunately, Li Yue didn't react with the stunned expression Eitri was hoping for.
And Thor? He just scratched his head and said:
"Eh... I still prefer using a hammer."
Eventually, Thor accepted the Stormbreaker as his new weapon. Eitri led them to a storage area where the mold for it was kept—a square, heavy thing that, in another universe, Rocket once described as looking like a brick. Luckily, Nidavellir hadn't been ravaged by Thanos in this timeline, so the forge was fully operational. No one had to endure the heat of a neutron star this time.
Dwarves bustled around as preparations began. Each had a clear role, working like a seamless machine. When all was ready, Eitri called out:
"Thor, are you ready? We're starting!"
"Let's do it!"
A device harnessed the heat of the neutron star. With a loud whoosh, a beam of orange-hot energy poured into the forge, lighting it up instantly. Inside, chunks of raw Uru metal began to melt, glowing like molten lava.
Eitri watched closely, then opened the furnace. The liquified Uru flowed into the mold. After a rapid cooling process, he smashed the mold open with a special glove, revealing a glowing, still-hot battle axe.
"Bring the handle!"
A dwarf ran forward with a gnarled, wooden shaft—crafted from a branch of Yggdrasil, the World Tree. Eitri combined it with the axe head using a technique too complex for even Li Yue to understand.
"Thor, now it's your turn. Infuse it with your divine power!"
Without hesitation, Thor summoned his lightning. Power surged from his body, more intense than ever. Sparks exploded outward, knocking dwarves off their feet.
BOOM!
A bolt of lightning struck the axe. The weapon didn't budge or break—rather, it crackled with silver arcs of lightning. Slowly, it lifted from the ground.
Thor, glowing with power, reached out his hand. With a loud hum, the Stormbreaker flew into his grip.
Lightning danced across his body. He rose into the air, his strength easily multiplied several times. The dwarves could only stare in awe.
Li Yue couldn't help but feel impressed.
'So this is the power of Stormbreaker… No wonder Thor stood toe to toe against Thanos, even with the Infinity Gauntlet.'
He turned to Eitri and asked, "Why is there –such a huge difference between Thor with his hammer and Thor with Stormbreaker?"
Eitri answered with a knowing smile.
"Thor's hammer was designed to help him control his powers. Stormbreaker? It enhances his power—amplifies it. A powerful artifact shows its true potential only in the hands of a worthy wielder. And Thor… he's worthy."
Hearing this, Li Yue nodded in understanding.
It was like comparing game stats: Mjölnir gave a flat +999 attack power.
Stormbreaker? It multiplied your strength by +999%. The stronger you were, the more monstrous the boost.
"All right, Eitri, it's time to forge my weapon! I've waited long enough!"
"Haha, the mold should be ready now! I must say, I'm quite curious to see how it'll turn out."
"Oh, by the way—what was that name again? 'Shang-bao-Qin?' Honestly, it's way too hard to remember!"
"Ahh, I was just messing with you," Li Yue laughed. "That's not the real name."
"Oh? Then what's it actually—"
Before Li Yue could answer, thunder cracked through the air again. Thor, still in the sky, let out a joyful laugh, twirling the Stormbreaker and lighting up the forge with more bolts of electricity.
The dwarves quickly ducked for cover, terrified of being fried by accident.
Thor, finally satisfied, calmed his energy and drifted back down beside Li Yue and Eitri.
"Haha! This axe forged by Eitri is incredible! It feels so natural to wield. With Stormbreaker in my hand, I feel like my power has multiplied a hundredfold! Li Yue, I'm not scared of you anymore—dare to spar with me?"
Landing with a thud on the ground, Thor first praised the Dwarf King Eitri and then proudly swung the Stormbreaker, slicing through the air and stirring up a gust of wind.
Feeling as if he now surpassed Li Yue in strength, Thor couldn't help but challenge him with renewed confidence.
"Hehe… and this from the guy who just said, 'I don't like axes'? Poor Mjolnir, lying cold and abandoned on the ground. A master who so quickly ditches his loyal companion—tragic, truly tragic."
Li Yue didn't directly respond to Thor's challenge. Instead, he shot back with a sarcastic remark that hit home. Thor's face stiffened.
Embarrassed, Thor sheepishly walked over and picked up Mjolnir, which he had casually tossed aside the moment Stormbreaker was forged.
Now that he thought about it, he really did look like someone who dumps the old for the new. If Mjolnir had a voice, it would probably be shouting at him right now:
"Bah! You scumbag!"
"Li Yue," Thor said with a bit of guilt, looking between his two weapons, "now that I have Stormbreaker, what should I do with Mjolnir?"
He clearly favored the newer, more powerful axe, but couldn't quite bring himself to discard the hammer that had been with him for so long. Still, he turned to Li Yue, hoping he'd have a good suggestion.
"Don't worry. Take it with you. I believe that someday, you'll find someone worthy to wield it."
Li Yue's words were meaningful, hinting at something more. Thor didn't fully understand, but he trusted Li Yue's judgment and nodded in agreement.
"Alright! Enough talk!"
Eitri clapped his hands, interrupting the moment. "–It's time to forge Brother Li Yue's weapon—I've been looking forward to this!"
At the mention of his weapon, Li Yue's eyes lit up with excitement. He couldn't wait.
Just like with Stormbreaker, Eitri led them toward the furnace, where the molds were already prepared. But this time, instead of just one, there were three molds—two large, one small—though their sizes didn't vary too much.
Li Yue didn't ask questions. He trusted Eitri's craftsmanship and knew better than to meddle in a dwarf king's work.
Soon, the materials were prepped and ready.
"Brother Li Yue," Eitri called out over the hum of machinery, "are you ready? We're about to begin!"
"Bring it on!" Li Yue replied without hesitation, his voice filled with excitement.
Eitri gave a satisfied nod and activated the controls. The massive star ring device began spinning, and the neutron star—burning with the heat of a dying sun—fired an intense orange beam through a series of focusing mechanisms straight into the forge.
The entire chamber lit up, the air thick with heat and energy. The real work was about to begin.
The furnace roared, channeling heat from the blazing neutron star—its temperature soaring into the hundreds of millions of degrees, hot enough to melt nearly any known material in existence. Even the legendary Uru metal was no exception. Within seconds, it was reduced to a glowing, molten liquid, radiating with intense red light.
Eitri, standing beside the forge, kept a close eye on the process. The moment the timing was perfect, he activated a lever, and the molten Uru began to slowly flow into the two prepared molds.
"Quick, bring the barrel!" Eitri shouted.
A dwarf assistant who had been waiting nearby rushed over, holding a long, straight pole that gleamed with a silver sheen. It was over a meter long and carved with countless runes. Though it looked metallic, it was actually crafted from a branch of the World Tree—similar in origin to the handle of Stormbreaker, but this one was sleeker, straighter, and more elegant in design.
After receiving the pole, Eitri moved swiftly. He cracked open the smaller mold first, revealing two golden components, still glowing red-hot from the forge.
With practiced hands and a few deft movements that Li Yue didn't fully understand, Eitri attached the golden ends to both sides of the silver pole—forming the lower and upper parts of the weapon's base.
Then, without pause, he shattered the remaining mold. From within emerged a breathtaking weapon head—shimmering like liquid silver.
It resembled a lance head but was far more intricate. It was flat, about ten centimeters wide, and double-edged. The tip split into three razor-sharp blades—the central blade longest, like a spearhead, with the side blades slightly shorter and curving outward. It looked fierce, deadly, and regal all at once (imagine it as a trident but with its middle blade and side blades attached with no gaps between it and the middle blade being way longer and broader).
With no hesitation, Eitri affixed the gleaming spearhead onto the top of the staff. The weapon was now whole—quite majestic and menacing.
"Brother Li Yue! Channel your power into the weapon—now!" Eitri quickly stepped away, giving Li Yue space.
He didn't know the full extent of Li Yue's abilities, but any warrior who could rival Thor was bound to be no ordinary man. The aura Li Yue gave off was already enough to shake even the hardened dwarf king.
"Got it," Li Yue nodded.
He raised his right hand and aimed it at the weapon on the ground. Drawing energy from deep within his consciousness, he unleashed a concentrated beam of brilliant blue energy. It shot from his palm and struck the weapon dead center.
This was the first time Li Yue had ever used his power in such a focused way. He expected some kind of reaction—resistance or explosion—but instead, the weapon absorbed the energy completely. Not even a ripple of force escaped.
The weapon began to glow, its silver body now pulsing with radiant blue light. The patterns carved into its shaft shimmered like flowing rivers, the energy coursing through it like liquid starlight.
Seconds passed. Then dozens more. Li Yue felt his strength draining, –sweat beading on his forehead. Just as he began to tire, the weapon's glow surged—brighter than ever—until it outshone even the neutron star behind it.
With one final burst of brilliance, Li Yue stopped channeling. The weapon lifted gently off the ground, humming with power, hovering in midair.
"Come to daddy…cough…me—uh, I mean... WEAPON!COME!"
With a thought, the weapon vanished from where it was floating and reappeared instantly in Li Yue's right hand—no rushing wind, no sound, no flight path. It was like teleportation, a blink between dimensions.
The moment he gripped it, Li Yue shot upward, soaring into the sky—flying effortlessly for the first time in his life. The weapon responded as if alive, resonating with him perfectly.
"Amazing…" Li Yue whispered to himself, the wind rushing around him.
"Now that's a good weapon!" Thor blurted, both impressed and a little jealous.
"Is that what you called palladium gold?" he turned to Eitri.
"Why does it look even more cooler than my Stormbreaker? Even more majestic than my father's Eternal Spear in appearence!"
Thor stared at his Stormbreaker, now feeling a little salty. His glorious new weapon suddenly didn't feel quite as glorious.
