Chapter 14 - When Mortal Flesh Rebels

On the third day, the crystal's energy began to wreak havoc on Magnus's body. He woke in the middle of the night, his body burning with an intense, searing pain. The energy surged through him, twisting and writhing like a living thing, reshaping his very being.

Magnus stumbled to the bathroom, his vision blurring as the pain intensified. He looked in the mirror and gasped—his eyes were glowing, a bright, golden light that seemed to pierce through the darkness. His veins pulsed with the same light, and his skin shimmered with an otherworldly glow.

The pain lasted for hours, leaving Magnus weak and trembling. When it finally subsided, he collapsed on the floor, his body drenched in sweat. He could feel the changes—his muscles were denser, his bones stronger, his senses even sharper than before. But the energy was still there, restless and untamed, and he knew it was only a matter of time before it surged again.

The distant resonance was louder now, more insistent. Magnus could feel it pulling at him, urging him to focus. He didn't know what it was, but he knew he had to understand.

By the fourth day, Magnus began to realize the true extent of the changes. The crystal's energy wasn't just altering his body—it was transforming him into something beyond mortal. He could feel it in the way he moved, the way he thought, the way he perceived the world around him.

That afternoon, Magnus ventured into the forest, seeking solitude and a place to test his newfound abilities. As he walked, he noticed that the world around him seemed to respond to his presence. The trees swayed toward him, their leaves rustling as if in greeting. The animals, too, seemed to sense him—birds perched on branches to watch him pass, and deer paused in their grazing to stare at him with wide, curious eyes.

Magnus stopped by a stream, kneeling to cup the water in his hands. As he did, he noticed something strange—the water seemed to shimmer, as if infused with the same golden light that now coursed through his veins. He dipped his hand into the stream, and the water around it began to glow, the light spreading outward in ripples.

He stood, his mind racing. The crystal's energy wasn't just changing him—it was changing the world around him. But what did it mean? What was he becoming?

On the fifth day, the crystal's energy became more demanding. Magnus woke to find his body glowing brightly, the light so intense that it illuminated the entire room. The energy surged through him, restless and insistent, demanding to be released.

Magnus tried to control it, to channel it into something constructive, but the power was too wild, too raw. He unleashed a burst of energy, sending a wave of golden light crashing through the room. The walls shook, and the windows shattered, sending shards of glass raining down.

He stumbled outside, his body trembling with the effort of containing the energy. He could feel it growing stronger, more volatile, and he knew he couldn't hold it back forever. He needed to find a way to control it, to harness it before it consumed him.
