I had always loved Riven. Always. From the very moment we were introduced as children—I knew he was mine. Everyone else saw a half-breed, a mistake, an aberration that didn't fit in either world. But I saw something else. Something perfect. Something I could keep.
He didn't need the others. He didn't need the sneering children who would mock him for being half wolf. He didn't need the threats because of his father or the quiet weakness of his mother. He didn't even need friends. All he needed was me. And I knew, if I held on tightly enough, if I cut away the noise, one day he would understand that.
I always had a plan.
