Sera's Pov
I woke with a gasp, my breath caught somewhere between my throat and my chest. Sweat clung to my skin and the pounding in my head felt like it was trying to drill through bone. My hands were gripping the sheets like I had been trying to hold myself down in my sleep.
A vision.
Kael. I saw through his eyes. I didn't know how I knew—it was just something instinctual, deep in my gut—but it was him. The way he moved. The shape of his shoulders. The cadence of his breathing. I was standing behind his eyes, seeing what he saw.
A map had been sprawled before him on a stone table, tattered at the edges. Markers—blue and black, some glowing faintly—dotted it. I couldn't make out the layout. The angles were too steep, the room too dim. His hands were clasped behind his back as he listened to the others in the room. The words didn't come clearly either. But fragments had bled through.
"…attack…"
"…fortress…"
"…days…"
I sat up, heart racing. They were coming.
