The journey back to camp was quiet.
No one asked me why I let her go—not directly. They all looked like they wanted to, but every time their eyes lingered too long on me, they quickly looked away again. As if they knew they wouldn't get the answer they wanted. Maybe I didn't have one. Maybe I didn't want to say it out loud, in case it made it real.
This was war. We had come too far, lost too many, bled too much to start getting sentimental now. We were finally at the point where we could challenge the pure-blooded wolves and their systems. Where we could force the world to change—for the children born like us, cursed at birth for something they didn't ask for. For those who had already been silenced.
I couldn't afford to hesitate now.
Sera wasn't… her.
She wasn't mixed blood. She didn't know what it felt like to be born an abomination. She didn't know the kind of pain I did, and even if she had suffered, it wasn't the same.
