Chapter 189 - High-End

Garaki was ahead, hunched near a terminal, typing like none of this shit outside mattered. My bat hummed like it sensed boss music loading. Garaki didn't flinch.

Aizawa didn't wait. His eyes lit, focused.

Garaki gasped, hunched over, hands trembling. His back arched and then folded inward like his spine gave up halfway through. Wrinkles spread like water stains across his face. Age hit him in real time.

"Holy shit," Mic muttered. "That was what was keeping this roach walking."

Tsukauchi moved in, already pulling out cuffs. "Same kind of regeneration Quirk. Probably the same one that kept All for One alive so long."

Present Mic grabbed Garaki by the collar. "Where is Shigaraki?"

The old man wheezed. "Too late…"

"I'll decide that," Aizawa said.

A pair of nurses and doctors rushed in, yelling something about patient rights, one holding up a scalpel, trying to defend Garaki. Toy-Toy grabbed them. She dropped it with a yelp. Kido held the rest, taking them out.

"You are interfering in a military operation," Tsukauchi barked. "Stand down."

Mandalay radioed something about evac progression.

Mirko stepped beside me, glanced at Garaki, then tapped her earpiece. "Nomu."

"Count?" Endeavor's voice cut in.

"Five already. They are surfacing from sublevels."

"We knew they would," Endeavor said. "Evac team is already moving civilians. Stay on the main path."

Endeavor's heat bled through the walls ahead. "We breach the lab. Keep Garaki contained. Tiger, take the upper stairwell with Rock Lock and Pixie-Bob."

Another Nomu crawled out of the ceiling vent near Pediatrics. Snipe shot it twice in the head. It kept moving. Mirko jumped, kicked it in the skull. This time it stopped.

"Let's start clearing," she said.

I stepped forward, flipped the bat to heavy mode. "First one to get three drops gets the plush right."

Plush right was bedroom currency, our code for picking the position. Censored slang disguised as something PG. No one around us would catch it, but she knew. Oh, she knew.

Mirko blinked, then grinned like I slapped her ass in front of a priest. "You bet."

Nomu screeched down the hallway, long arms, no lips, and a face like it lost a fight with a blender. It lunged. I stepped in.

WEM connected to its temple with a crack that sent bone fragments flying. The wall behind it dented.

It regenerated. Of course it did. Most Nomu came with high-level regen by default, like a shitty factory warranty for horror movie extras.

It screeched again, mouth open like it had something to say. It didn't. My bat said enough. One more swing, Kendo's module kicked in, increasing the size and weight of the bat, and its jaw shot across the hallway like a baseball foul.

Mirko didn't wait. She went through the next one like a human wrecking ball. Kicked it in the gut, spun off its shoulder, and crushed its skull against a defibrillator cart. The machine sparked. So did the Nomu. Both stopped moving.

I caught a blur out the corner of my eye, one lunged from above the surgery light, both arms stretched like a fat kid reaching for snacks. I ducked low, let it fly past, and brought the bat up under its chin mid-fall. Pistons fired. Jaws dislocated. The whole head twisted sideways like it forgot what direction was.

I cracked my neck, watching the last Nomu twitch like a dying bug. "My count got style. Yours just looks like cleanup."

Mirko landed behind me, blood flicked off her ears. "Two."

Before I could answer, a high-end lunged out of the mirror-glass like a bad acid trip, no skin, just red sinew dripping something that hissed against the floor. Its arms were dripping with something that hissed like it hated the floor. Smelled like melted batteries got horny with sewer water.

"You are playing a game?" The voice hit like nails in soup. A talking Nomu was never good news. "Sounds fun. Let me join as well." It said, then vanished. Not ran. Vanished. One second it was twenty meters away. The next, I barely caught the blur before two heroes went flying in opposite directions, cratering into the walls like rag dolls. Ragdoll wasn't one of them.

"Two," it hissed.

Mirko and I looked at each other.

No more bullshit.

Quirks:

Phase Ripper - Short-range teleport bursts (up to 15m) with amplified kinetic impact.

Hyperdensity Limbs - Hardened limbs convert momentum into crushing force.

Super Regeneration - Near-instant healing of most trauma. Full limb regrowth in 12s.

Tactile Foresight - Predictive reflexes triggered by close-range interaction.

Shockburst Glands - Concussive wave emission from body, close-range disruption.

Corrosive Secretion - Acidic fluid constantly leaks from body. Melts surfaces, disrupts footing, damages equipment.

Stats:

Strength: 310

Agility: 275

Intelligence: 60

Charisma: 5

Traits:

Tunnel Lock - Fixates on strongest target in range. Will ignore weaker enemies once engaged unless forcibly separated.

Overkill Habit - Attacks continue even after the target is downed. Known to destroy unconscious or dead opponents unless interrupted.

Sensory Lag - Slow to respond to auditory cues. Can be disoriented by sound-based interference for short durations.

Predictive Stutter - Occasionally hesitates between teleports if multiple threats are nearby. Tendency to freeze mid-choice before next burst.

Trophy Drive - Keeps bits of fallen enemies. Seen ripping limbs or armor off corpses and wearing/holding them until destroyed or removed.

[CHARISMA: 5. STILL MORE THAN MINETA.]

I spoke directly into her head. "Leave this bastard to me. You leave."

Mirko looked at me. No words. Just checking if I was full of shit. I wasn't.

I grinned, resting WEM against my shoulder. "Just go."

She turned without another glance. "Don't die."

I waved her off, stepping forward. "Your brain works, right?" I asked the Nomu. "Because I got a few insults, and I would hate to waste them on a sponge."

It blurred. I blinked sideways, letting it eat drywall. The crack behind me sounded like a truck smashing pavement.

First blood. Mine.

I didn't stop moving. [Momentum Shift] already racked up.

The bastard teleported again, to my left this time, limb raised for a swing that could level a car. I ducked under and drove WEM into its ribs.

The pistons snapped forward. Mirko's Momentum punched through with a second hit that folded it into a table. By using Mirko's hair on WEM, I was able to add enough torque to twist its ribcage like a bag of breadsticks. It staggered back, healing, fast, but not fast enough to forget pain.

It warped again with (Phase Ripper). Landed behind me, claws already swinging. I leaned sideways, caught the forearm mid-swipe, redirected the momentum into the corner wall. Cracks spidered up to the ceiling.

"You are slippery. I hate slippery things," it said, flexing its hands, acid hissed between its knuckles.

I spat and stepped forward, rolling my neck as the bruises started stacking. [Pain Resistance] soaked it up, not because I liked it, but because I could. My bat shifted, weight spiked.

It blinked, but [Veilpiercer] caught the air‑rip. I pivoted and slammed WEM sideways into empty space, met nothing but a shockwave as it burst behind me. (Shockburst Glands). My back cracked against the wall, tiles gave way. [Cheat Death] saved my ribs, but my ego took the real hit.

The thing laughed. Lunged again. [Combat Intuition] synced up fast. I turned my whole torso, caught the edge of the incoming claw with WEM's hardened shell, Kirishima's node. The bat didn't bend. Its forearm did.

I rammed my shoulder into its midsection and triggered the pistons, Mirko's node slammed force through its chest, bouncing it off the hallway divider like trash. I chased it before it landed. [Endless Momentum] started to build up. Each step slammed harder.

The third hit dropped vertical, overhead, heavy mode, Bakugo's charge lit at the apex. Full kinetic + blast core. It blocked with both arms. Didn't matter. The shockwave dented the ground. Its knees gave out.

I drove forward. [Warpath Momentum] turned speed into strength.

It vanished again, (Phase Ripper), but [Veilpiercer] told the air distortion. I twisted, swung low. WEM clipped its thigh. Bone cracked. It glitched left, staggered, but kept moving. Regeneration already spooling.

I clicked my tongue. Since this soggy flesh condom had a brain, I figured I might as well fry it.

"Hey!" I shouted, ducking under a claw swipe and smashing WEM into its elbow. "Did your face lose a bet with a lawnmower or was that just your default setting?"

[Endless Banter] flared, [Rage Bait] kicked the wheel. I saw the twitch.

"Bet Garaki built you with leftover dog food and horny regret." I slid sideways under its next burst, [Phantom Step] vs (Phase Ripper). "You hit like a wet towel. I seen kindergartners with rage issues do more damage. Seriously. Bakugo was pain in the ass even then."

I slammed WEM into its shoulder, (Hyperdensity Limbs) clashed back hard, but [Impact Overflow] detonated the energy I banked earlier.

It teleported again, bad angle. [Veilpiercer] caught the shimmer. I twisted, slammed the bat's end into its hip joint. [Shatterpoint] showed the weak point, so I swung again before it healed. Crack. Leg dropped. It screamed.

"SHUT UP!"

It moved, no (Phase Ripper), just raw fucking speed, and my spine kissed the wall better than my first kiss at that. The air punched out of my lungs.

"FUCK YOUR MOTHER'S CASKET AND THE WORM THAT GOT THERE FIRST!"

[Cheat Death] flared off the impact, redirecting the hit to stop my lungs from folding inside out. I landed, coughing blood with a laugh.

It was in front of me again. Moved like a junkie gorilla in heat, swinging like the last crack rock was in my skull. I dropped low. [Sprint Mastery] snapped my leg behind its knee and I rolled under a backhand that cratered the support beam behind me.

[WARPATH MOMENTUM: STACK LIMIT REACHED. UNLEASH OR WASTE IT, SMARTASS.]

My swing came around from the floor up, [WildCard Ex Machina]'s weight in full [Heavy Mode]. It caught the bastard across the ribs, and I felt cartilage shift like wet gravel.

It stumbled. Twitched. (Tactile Foresight) tried to trigger, but I was already inside the margin. I spun with [Street Brawler], dropped a headbutt into its temple mid-kick. It reeled.

"You tracking yet, you bootleg Shigaraki cumdump? Or you need your acid-nipple daddy to hold your cock? Oh wait, you don't have one, you ball-less fuck."

It roared, real sound now, not just noise, anger.

[Rage Bait] hit critical. It flickered, (Phase Ripper), mid-shift it froze. (Predictive Stutter). I leapt.

WEM slammed into its chest, and I rode the impact like a damn battering ram. [Impact Overflow] triggered. That stockpiled force dropped through its spine and into the floor beneath it. Tiles broke. So did something in its leg.

"You are a fucking headache," it snarled, voice glitching.

It snapped, faster now, low teleport blink, claws wide. I twisted and ducked with [Phantom Step], angled my slide under the claws, then [Pinpoint Rebound Strike], bat met claw, redirected the force right back into its other arm. The thing's elbow spun the wrong way.

Mirko's voice came right into my mind, "Two more Nomu on sublevel. You still flirting?"

"Tell em I will sign autographs once I skullfuck this one into a wheelchair," I rolled my shoulders. Time to finish the date.
