Chapter 296 - Chapter 296: Tohjo Falls and the Pokémon Uprising

At the moment, Silas was positioned at the border between Kanto and Johto, specifically in the southwest of Kanto.

If one were to talk about the most iconic landmark nearby, it would undoubtedly be Tohjo Falls, the waterfall that divides the two regions.

The falls consisted of twin waterfalls shaped like a gate. As a famous landmark marking the border between Kanto and Johto, the name Tohjo Falls was derived from taking one character from each region.

Speaking of which, the reason the Enda Group construction team was nearby was already quite obvious.

They were preparing for their boss's Battle Frontier expansion project. One of the seven future Battle Tower facilities, according to Silas's impression, would be near Tohjo Falls.

The future owner of the Battle Tower also had some connection to Anabel, the Battle Frontier Queen, and Silas.

Before officially becoming a Battle Frontier Queen, Anabel primarily worked as an International Police officer, clearing threats across various regions.

At this time, her superior happened to be Looker.

During her missions in Kanto, Looker coordinated with Anabel to consult Silas on certain matters. Although the two had never met in person, they had some communication, making them familiar in a professional sense.

According to Looker, Anabel, who came from the distant Alola Region, had lost nearly all of her memories except for her name due to unknown reasons.

The exact cause was something Looker was strictly forbidden from revealing to Silas.

Being a traveler from another world, Silas could guess parts of the situation.

A connection to Alola that couldn't be openly mentioned meant there was only one possible explanation: an Ultra Beast.

Even though Silas had guessed this, he wisely chose to remain silent.

Moreover, the existence of Ultra Beasts in the Ultra Space was still hidden by the League, so he had no official information. Even if he had learned it from Professor Oak, given his current strength, he wouldn't be able to intervene in such a dangerous situation.

Every Ultra Beast in its native world is an ordinary Pokémon, but in this world, they are extremely powerful and dangerous.

Even Anabel, who had a strong empathic ability to connect with Pokémon minds—a skill theoretically beyond normal human ability—found Ultra Beasts extremely challenging.

Silas, being "weaker," was far from capable; even his Ace-level Pokémon would barely be a challenge to these creatures.

In his previous life, Silas's knowledge of Ultra Beasts was limited to famous examples like Kartana, Buzzwole, and Vikavolt. Beyond that, he only had a vague understanding.

Before becoming a member of the Elite Four or a Champion, Silas had no intention of getting involved with Ultra Beasts. He didn't want to meet an untimely end.

Anabel's title as Battle Frontier Queen didn't explicitly define her strength, but compared with Brandon, who had the Three Legendary Titans as partners, Anabel's abilities were on par.

Although Brandon appeared higher in status as the pyramid king of the seventh Battle Frontier facility, in reality, their powers were comparable.

Anabel's higher official rank was mainly due to her additional responsibilities beyond the Battle Frontier.

Brandon, a lone wolf and friend of Scott, could be considered the battle specialist of the Enda Group, distinguishing between insiders and outsiders.

Based on Silas's past and current knowledge, Anabel had not yet reached her full potential, and Brandon hadn't captured the Three Legendary Titans. Yet, both remained among the strongest in the Pokémon world.

According to Looker, Anabel, who had worked hard and achieved much, was slated for promotion. Soon, she would supervise Looker rather than the other way around.

There were even rumors that the International Police planned to establish a secret department with Anabel as the head.

Looker shared this information openly with Silas—not because he lacked confidentiality, but because it was part of his duties.

It made sense. Silas, as a rising genius Trainer in Kanto with impressive tournament results, naturally attracted attention and recruitment efforts. The International Police were short on strong Trainers, so this was normal.

Looker's disclosures weren't top-secret, so it didn't matter much if Silas knew.

Silas understood the intention but didn't follow up; like most recruitment efforts, it ended in polite silence.

Officially, the reason given was universal: "still young, not strong enough, need to travel and grow before making a decision."

It was an excuse no one could argue with, given Silas's age and talent.

For Silas, the benefits of these recruitment attempts were simple—access to many new ways to earn money.

These individuals were all wealthy; even a single outsourced mission from them could earn Silas a fortune.

This mission was a perfect example, although he hadn't contacted them personally.

Back to the mission.

During the early construction phase, Pokémon uprisings were completely normal. Almost every outdoor construction team would encounter them; the only difference was the strength of the rebellious Pokémon.

Even with Pokémon as highly productive creatures, outdoor expansion wasn't very efficient. Wild Pokémon treated their territories like their own domain, and whenever humans intruded, they staged uprisings.

Construction teams faced constant threats until wild Pokémon recognized the area as permanently human-occupied, forming a de facto no-entry zone.

Any lapse could result in complete destruction of buildings.

The coexistence of humans and Pokémon has always been a major challenge.

With a growing human population, humans inevitably expand, encroaching on Pokémon habitats, making conflict unavoidable.

Without Poké Balls and the mutual understanding between humans and Pokémon, the world would remain as desolate as it had been for millennia, with only a few surviving Pokémon communities.

Pokémon's battle abilities alone made them impossible for ordinary humans to rival.

This particular uprising encountered by the Enda Group construction team wasn't small; otherwise, they wouldn't have initially hired Yezo. For Silas, however, it wasn't hard to resolve.

Tohjo Falls, being the border between regions, was typically a remote location. The cave-and-waterfall terrain was difficult to traverse, so most people took alternative routes.

Here, due to the geography, both land and water Pokémon rebelled simultaneously, forcing the construction team to call for help.

More importantly, two Pesudo Elite-level Pokémon led the uprising—a Golbat and a Gyarados.

Among these common Pokémon species, Pesudo Elite-level individuals appeared more often than rare Pokémon.

Under their leadership, each group attacked the construction team the moment they encroached on their territory, causing significant losses.

Fortunately, the construction site was deep enough that a strategic retreat left a large enough gap, causing the Pokémon to stop attacking and instead consolidate their territory.

But this didn't mean the situation was good.

People in the Pokémon world knew that once the Pokémon groups regrouped, they would lead their newly recruited allies to counterattack and reclaim their territory.

The reason was simple: "You can't beat me, so your territory is mine, and I'll assert dominance for my allies."

Some group leaders, frustrated by having no excuse to attack other Pokémon, took advantage of humans' intrusion.

Silas reviewed the information given by the foreman. After confirming all supplies in his space backpack, he stood and stepped out of the tent.

"Master Silas, everyone inside has been evacuated as you requested," said the foreman, who had been waiting outside, slightly anxious but smiling when he saw Silas.

"Understood," Silas nodded. "Take me to the entrance."

"Yes, Sir. Please follow me."

The foreman was, of course, more than willing to comply.

Although the Enda Group hadn't given Silas a strict deadline for completing this job, every delay meant losses for the construction crew.

"Your security team only needs to hold the entrance. There's no need to follow me inside.

Also, just in case, I'll leave one of my Pokémon outside. If anything goes wrong, it'll step in to handle it."

As they walked toward the entrance, Silas explained things simply.

The foreman hesitated.

"Uh… sir, you really don't need support?

Our security team doesn't have pseudo–Elite-level Pokémon, but we do have enough Advance-level and Standard-level numbers to help against a rampaging Pokémon colony."

"No need. Eliminating them is my task. You only need to keep yourselves safe."

Silas' tone was calm and firm.

Seeing such confidence, the supervisor didn't push further. Heart pounding, he led Silas to the entrance.

"Come out, Pidgeot. Stay here and assist with defense."

Silas brushed a hand across his belt, and a minimized Luxury Ball expanded in his fingers before he tossed it.

A massive Pidgeot materialized in a flash of red light.

"Pidgeot!"

Pidgeot called out and flapped its wings, indicating it understood.

"Then I'll head in."

At some point Silas had already changed into his field exploration gear. Without hesitation, he stepped toward the pitch-black passage.

Leaving Pidgeot outside was necessary.

For one, the inner space wasn't large enough to let Pidgeot move freely.

For another, Silas was more worried about the people outside causing unexpected trouble.

As the saying goes: don't fear a godlike enemy—fear pig-headed allies.

That rule never goes out of fashion.

Watching Silas' silhouette disappear, Pidgeot spread its wings and soared onto a tall tree near the camp, beginning its watch.

"Don't worry. That man isn't your average Trainer."

The security captain patted the worried supervisor, understanding exactly what was on his mind.

"I know. Top 16 in the Indigo Plateau Conference, a super-genius Trainer—of course I'm not doubting his strength."

The supervisor sighed helplessly.

"It's just… going down alone… if something happens—"

He didn't finish.

"Relax. Aside from his strength, he's also a well-known name in the bounty-hunter circles. He's not some Trainer who only knows formal battles. Honestly, with our lack of strength, he'd probably think we're dead weight.

With his ability, even if he couldn't beat that Pokémon group, escaping would be easy."

"…Let's hope so."

The supervisor always feared the unknown, and the captain—having worked with him many times—knew this well.

"Come on, let's go check on the injured while we have time. Sir Silas came pretty quickly—we still have plenty of time."

The captain dragged the supervisor toward the nearby medical tent.

"Speaking of which, your paycheck for this job should be pretty good, right? Thinking of treating the boys to a meal?"

"Oh no you don't. That money took years to save. I'm planning to get my kid a good starter Pokémon with it."

"Right, forgot you're a family man. Lucky for me I'm a carefree bachelor with no such worries. In that case, let me treat you after we go back."

"Really? Then I want the Garchomp Combo at Azure Cuisine."

"Hey hey hey—are you trying to bankrupt me??"

Their voices faded into the maze of tents.

Pidgeot stopped watching them and shifted its focus to the perimeter. It had a job and payment to earn.

Meanwhile, deep inside the construction tunnel, Silas was advancing steadily.

The tunnel wasn't as dark as it seemed from the outside.

Due to construction needs, several light-emitting devices were fixed to the walls.

They weren't bright, but enough to see.

"Fifteen Zubat + five Golbat + one pseudo–Elite Golbat… thirteen Goldeen + three Seaking + one pseudo–Elite Seaking… plus an unknown number of other species."

Silas quietly calculated the power difference between himself and the targets.

Not too big.

At least from his perspective, it would be easy to handle.

"Better scout the current situation first."

Silas took out a strange-shaped device and a control pad from his backpack.

As a bounty hunter, there was no way he would blindly trust the intel given by the supervisor—that would be a rookie mistake.
