This was Area One of the Safari Zone, a vast expanse of grassland.
The entire Safari Zone was divided into four areas based on terrain and environment—grassland, mountainous, river, and a comprehensive ecological zone.
Each area housed different Pokémon species, not limited to those from the Kanto region. There were also some from the nearby Johto and Hoenn regions.
In the distance, a herd of Tauros was charging wildly.
These Pokémon were the male counterpart to Miltank every Tauros was male, and every Miltank was female.
Just like the relationship between Nidoran♂ and Nidorina.
Tauros had a bovine appearance. Aside from their three tails and the trio of dots on their foreheads, there wasn't much that stood out.
They were full of energy and had hot tempers. Once they started running, they wouldn't stop until they crashed into something.
You rarely saw people riding them in cities because you never knew how much damage you might end up paying for.
That said, Tauros were ideal for riding in the wild. They had excellent stamina and could handle a variety of terrains.
The leader of the herd was swinging its three tails constantly this was the boss of the group, capable of commanding the others with its tails.
Fortunately, Rhyhorns preferred mountainous and rocky terrain. Otherwise, these two Pokémon, both infamous for charging headfirst into things, would probably cause daily disasters just from running into each other.
Rhyhorn was the pre-evolved form of the Rhydon Silas had previously caught.
Of course, if the two ever clashed, Rhyhorn would likely dominate.
Its body was covered in impenetrable grey armor, and its bones were said to be a thousand times harder than a human's. There was a recorded incident where a herd of Rhyhorns stormed into a city, knocking down seven or eight buildings during their rampage without losing a bit of momentum.
The only real issue with Rhyhorn was its lack of intelligence. Perhaps due to constantly crashing into things headfirst, it could only retain one thought at a time.
Once it started charging, it would quickly forget why and wouldn't stop until it passed out from exhaustion.
Another theory was that its four stubby legs made it nearly impossible to steer.
Although incredibly powerful, their popularity among Trainers was fairly average.
Silas was walking across the grassland.
He didn't particularly expect to capture any must-have Pokémon in the Safari Zone.
Most of the Pokémon here were still fairly common. On one hand, there was no real need to come here just to catch them. On the other, the League wouldn't allow too many high-potential Pokémon to remain in such an open environment.
There were some, of course but not many.
Honestly, it might make more sense to head to the river zone and look for a high-potential Magikarp to raise.
That said, if he ran into a Pokémon he really liked, he wouldn't pass up the chance. After all, using food to lure them wasn't a problem he had full confidence in his cooking skills.
He wandered aimlessly through the grassland.
"Splat."
A small Pokémon bumped into Silas's leg, rolled over, and then dumbly stuck out its tongue.
This Poochyena… seemed kind of dumb.
Looking at the Poochyena in front of him, Silas couldn't help but feel it resembled a certain pet from his past life.
Poochyena was a small canine Pokémon covered in gray fur, with dark gray markings on its face and limbs. Its most distinctive feature was its prominent fangs sharp and fierce, forming a stark contrast with its small body.
In the distance, a group of Poochyena and Mightyena were play-fighting. A few of the Mightyena glanced this way but paid no real attention.
They were long used to humans visiting. As long as no one tried to forcibly capture their offspring, they didn't care.
The Poochyena in front of Silas lay down, wagging its tail nonstop.
He crouched down and gave it a good pet. He had to admit Pokémon with soft, silky fur were a pleasure to touch. Canine Pokémon really were among the best companions.
Poochyena had an acute sense of smell, powerful jaws, and incredible stamina for chasing prey until exhaustion.
Its evolved form, Mightyena, was the go-to Pokémon for many security personnel due to its loyalty, unity, and respectable strength.
And they rarely worked alone. Mightyena often formed packs, obeying the commands of Trainers they recognized, sometimes in numbers reaching double digits.
Their disciplined teamwork and exceptional obedience made them very popular though raising them wasn't exactly cheap.
Appearance-wise, they looked like a scaled-up Poochyena, but with black fur along their tail, back, and limbs.
Come to think of it… raising a Poochyena didn't sound like a bad idea.
Its single Dark typing meant it didn't have too many type disadvantages only Fighting- and Bug-type moves were especially effective against it (Fairy-type hadn't been formally defined yet).
As for its moveset, Mightyena could learn a wide array of attacks absolutely on par with the starter trio. The "Three Fangs"—Thunder Fang, Fire Fang, and Ice Fang were particularly well-suited to it due to its body type, giving it excellent coverage.
In terms of Abilities, both Intimidate and Quick Feet were highly practical. Its Hidden Ability, Moxie, was incredibly potent everyone who used it sang its praises.
The only real issue was its base potential most Mightyena had limited natural aptitude, and even evolving was already considered an achievement.
But for Silas right now, that wasn't exactly an unsolvable problem.
The most important part? Mightyena looked cool and had an amazing feel when petted.
Silas admitted he felt a moment of temptation. Whether it was Manectric, Houndoom, or Mightyena, these canine Pokémon were just too easy to fall for.
"So, little guy... are you thinking about coming with me?"
He patted the Poochyena and asked. This little one had probably taken a liking to him and honestly, he couldn't blame it.
The Poochyena paused for a moment, then retracted its tongue and gave Silas a side-eye.
"I just wanted to be petted. It felt nice. What are you thinking?"
From its eyes, Silas could practically read those three lines.
His hand suddenly froze. So the clown… was me, after all.
The Poochyena wagged its tail, turned around, and trotted off. Humans are so rude these days.
Silas stood up and shrugged. "Alright, alright. I got ahead of myself. Good thing no one saw that."
A hundred meters above, a flying surveillance drone shaped like a Pidgey hovered right above Silas. A few bird Pokémon flew by, uninterested it was just another metal frame. Nothing new.
Inside the Safari Zone's control room, a group of staff were howling with laughter.
"That's the eighth Trainer this month! Hahahahaha, that Poochyena is a menace!"
"Yeah, it's like it's addicted to getting petted!"
"Alright, laugh all you want, but stay focused watch your assigned Trainers."
"Yes, sir!"
Even amid the laughter, the supervisor still gave a firm reminder.
Unaware of the drone above his head, Silas assumed the so-called surveillance was the kind that detected energy pulses from Poké Balls when releasing Pokémon.
That's how it worked in many cities.
The airborne device was not only small but flew high up. Combined with its Pidgey-like shape, Silas truly hadn't noticed it at all.
Moving away from the Mightyena pack, Silas kept walking.
What a shame. Mightyena really would've suited him. Compared to Houndoom, often dubbed the "Hellhound," Silas preferred Mightyena's aesthetic.
Before long, he exited the grassland area.
He didn't have much desire to catch cute Pokémon like Jigglypuff. They were just too troublesome to raise.
As for others living in this region, like Nidoran♂, Nidoran♀, or Oddish they were even less worth mentioning. He already had a Nidoqueen and Nidoking under his name, after all.
To be honest, back when he fought a Gloom on the Trainer Path, Silas had briefly considered evolving an Oddish into a Bellossom as his Grass-type Pokémon.
From a support standpoint, Bellossom fit his system better and had decent strength.
Back then, he thought he could handle the challenge. Of course, the truth was he couldn't. So he gave up quickly.
Rather than raising a Pokémon with resentment or reluctance, it was better not to raise it at all. Pokémon could sense a person's emotions. If a Trainer didn't truly love them from the heart, the Pokémon wouldn't be happy either.
The next area was the rocky zone. As he walked in, he saw a Sandshrew poking its head out of a burrow, a Rhyhorn slamming into a rock wall, and even wait, in the desert portion…
Was that a Trapinch?
Silas suddenly froze. Trapinch?! Hold on did he just see that right?
He instinctively stopped walking, almost missing it.
But yes—it really was!
A Pokémon with massive jaws, an orange armored shell, and four stubby legs was digging through the desert sand. Its head was so big compared to its body it looked disproportionate this was Trapinch, a Ground-type Pokémon.
Of course, if it were just Ground-type, Silas wouldn't have been this surprised, nor would he have stopped in his tracks.
The key was its evolutionary line: Vibrava and Flygon Ground and Dragon types.
The real focus was Flygon.
Dragon-type Pokémon were incredibly rare, and most of them had outstanding potential. Just look at Pidgeot passing down even a single Dragon-type move like Twister gave it potential worthy of an Elite Four member.
Of course, that was partly due to Pidgeot's own excellence.
And look at pseudo-legendaries like Dragonite mocked for its sudden chubby appearance after evolution, often nicknamed "Fat Dragon"yet no one questioned its power. Its strength was universally acknowledged, and much of that came from its Dragon typing.
Then there were others—Kommo-o, Garchomp, Hydreigon, Haxorus all of them powerful and rare. Dragon-types were inherently strong. That went without saying.
Even though Flygon and Druddigon were often called "disgraces of the Dragon-type," from a purely aesthetic perspective, Flygon was leagues ahead of Druddigon.
Not to mention Flygon could fly, and even carry a person. That gave it an edge over Druddigon in both style and utility. And its strength wasn't weak either.
And now, the larval stage Trapinch was living right here in the Safari Zone!
Inside the surveillance room, it was complete chaos.
