"You asked Shigeru what psychic power is, didn't you?"
Nobuhiko's face was completely calm, like still water.
Silas instinctively nodded. But Shigeru's answer really didn't explain anything he didn't seem to know what psychic power truly was, either.
Wait a second... Silas narrowed his eyes and recalled Shigeru's words.
"A Trainer's genuine love for their Pokémon is also a kind of psychic power."
If that's the case, then those Trainers who follow the "intuition style" of battling—perhaps their so-called instinct is also a form of psychic power?
"Something like that," Nobuhiko replied, somewhat surprised at how quickly Silas caught on.
"This so-called intuition can also be interpreted as 'gut feeling.' In martial arts terms, you can think of it as a kind of 'Sixth Sense.'
What we usually refer to as intuition is, in most cases, a resonance between a Trainer and their Pokémon a kind of spiritual connection."
Silas tugged at the corner of his mouth. A few hours ago, he would've dismissed this as pure nonsense. But now, well… he was starting to believe it.
What had he done wrong? He'd been trying to treat the Pokémon world like a place governed by science.
But for the people of this world, Pokémon are science.
"This isn't baseless. Remember the description of Aura? 'The aura dwells within the heart.'
After extensive research by various Professors, the League discovered that every person in the world has residual traces of special energy within them whether it's Aura, psychic energy, or the power of overcoming (super strength).
It's just that, for most people, the amount is too small to control.
Perhaps, over time, the human body has simply become unsuitable for storing such energy.
As a result, only a very small number of individuals can freely manipulate Aura. These people are known as Aura Guardians.
However, as the bond between humans and Pokémon deepens, and as Pokémon themselves grow stronger, the resonance created between them can actually awaken that energy.
That's why, in battles involving intuition-style Trainers, you'll notice moments when they suddenly make unbelievably sharp and precise commands and their Pokémon move in perfect sync.
For the truly powerful ones, this synchronicity and instinctive decision-making happens every single time. You really think that's just coincidence?
It's not prediction it's the awakening of energy, creating a spiritual dialogue between Trainer and Pokémon.
So at its core, the intuition style is also a form of psychic power."
Silas groaned and rubbed his temples. He was having trouble accepting all this.
He'd been in this world for sixteen years, and now he was being told it was secretly a fantasy realm?
Everyone's a dragon now or something?
"That's also why Elite-level battles aren't usually open to the public. The highest battles you'll see on television are generally pre-Elite tier unless it's an exhibition match.
For actual Elite Challenge Matches, what you see is heavily processed footage.
Otherwise, the average person wouldn't even be able to follow what's happening, let alone appreciate the battle."
Nobuhiko chuckled as he looked at Silas. He seemed to enjoy messing with him.
Back when his own master, Bruno, had first explained this to him, Nobuhiko hadn't believed it either.
Were they basically human-shaped Pokémon?
Silas quickly composed himself.
I'm fine. I'm okay. I can accept this.
"So, what kind of guidance are you offering, Nobuhiko-senpai?"
He asked directly.
Ah, boring. You accepted that way too fast. Nobuhiko sighed inwardly, then answered, "I'll teach you how to more effectively awaken this energy that's what we call the Secret Manual."
Nobuhiko's expression immediately turned more serious.
"Normally, this Secret Manual isn't passed down to outsiders. But we owe Shigeru a favor. Since he sent you here, that means he wants me to teach it to you.
But remember this: you must never, under any circumstances, pass this knowledge on to another person."
Silence fell.
"…What if I become your disciple? Then wouldn't I be allowed to pass it on like to future students?"
After thinking for a bit, Silas felt like he had found a loophole.
Nobuhiko froze for a moment.
Huh… actually, that's not a bad idea.
Resting his chin on his hand, Nobuhiko thought it through. Silas's physical condition was outstanding ideal for their school's methods.
On top of that, he was already highly skilled in Pokémon raising. His potential strength would be considerable in the future.
And most importantly, he was a civilian an orphan with a clean background. That…
"Wait here."
Nobuhiko mumbled, then awkwardly excused himself and ran into the locker room.
After a long while, he came out with a strange look on his face.
He'd just contacted his master Bruno.
And Bruno was just as surprised. But after thinking it over, he agreed: it was actually a great idea.
Clean background, excellent talent, perfect match for their methods. And most importantly his backers were Pewter City, Professor Oak, and the Joy family.
The latter two would never be in conflict with them they wouldn't dare. As for the first, the Fighting Dojo's relationship with the Pewter Gym was actually pretty decent.
Bruno paused on the phone. "Hold on. I'll check with Professor Oak."
"Master Bruno, is something wrong?"
A small voice piped up beside him it was a brown-haired boy.
"Nothing, Gary. You keep training on your own. I've got to go talk to Professor Oak about something."
Bruno, dressed in a training gi, gave Gary some instructions, then hurried toward Oak's lab.
Gary frowned. It was rare for Master Bruno to act like this.
"Silas Alaric… That was the big brother from last time, right?"
Gary muttered to himself. Bruno hadn't tried to avoid being overheard during the call, so Gary had caught quite a bit.
"If Nobuhiko becomes his senior… doesn't that make me his martial uncle?"
Gary grinned.
Inside Professor Oak's lab.
"That's the situation, Professor. What do you think?"
Bruno explained everything to Oak with a hint of helplessness.
"You've already made up your mind, haven't you? Otherwise, you wouldn't be here," Oak said with a chuckle.
"…That's true. You know his background and our style well. You also know how perfectly he fits the criteria for our Secret Manual.
I didn't realize it before, but now that I think it through… that kid really checks every box."
Bruno sighed and admitted it openly.
There was no hiding anything from this old man. In fact, it wouldn't be surprising if Professor Oak had orchestrated this whole situation.
After all, in his younger years, Oak had walked a similar path strong, physically built and he knew the contents of their Secret Manual very well.
"Then just accept him. What's the problem? Your school hasn't had a disciple in ages. Take him in on your master's behalf."
Oak tapped away at his computer as he spoke casually.
"And what about Pewter?"
"Don't worry about that."
Bruno paused for a second, then came to his senses. "Alright!"
Without delay, he swiftly left the lab and passed on instructions to Nobuhiko.
Professor Rowan slowly walked out from the side room.
"Well? Are you at ease now?" Professor Oak said with mild exasperation, shooting a glance at his senior colleague.
A rare smile crept onto the stern face of Professor Rowan.
"That matter should be decided now, right?"
"Mm. The League has already approved my proposal."
"When?"
"Immediately. The sooner the better."
The two exchanged words quietly.
Meanwhile, in the Fighting Dojo of Saffron City—
"Sigh…" Nobuhiko let out a heavy breath.
Silas grew curious and puzzled. He knew Nobuhiko had just been on a call but why did he look so defeated afterward?
"Sigh…" Another sigh from Nobuhiko.
Silas was itching with curiosity. Come on, just say something!
"Master Bruno said… you'll have to be apprenticed under his teacher."
Nobuhiko sounded downright bitter. One phone call and now he'd gained a martial uncle out of thin air.
His master's teacher? Silas blinked, then did the math quickly.
Nobuhiko's master was Bruno. So if he was to be apprenticed to Bruno's teacher… he'd be Bruno's junior disciple and that would make him Nobuhiko's martial uncle?!
His eyes lit up. This could be fun.
"So how do I officially become a disciple?" he asked, sounding quite excited.
"Haaah…" Nobuhiko exhaled again.
Martial uncle it is… fine, whatever.
Then he straightened up, face turning serious.
"My teacher intends to take you as a disciple on behalf of his own master.
But he's tied up with other matters at the moment, so the official ceremony will be delayed. In the meantime, I'll be training you."
A flash of intensity passed through his eyes. Suddenly, to Silas's senses, Nobuhiko's presence became sharp and overwhelming.
"I must tell you this," he said solemnly. "Our school doesn't have many rules but among them: you must never commit crimes, and you must not violate moral principles.
If you do… the lightest punishment is expulsion. The worst…"
Nobuhiko didn't finish, but they both understood.
Silas smiled. "Of course not."
Nobuhiko nodded. He trusted Silas at least to an extent.
In the short time they had been discussing, Bruno had already run a background check on Silas.
Otherwise, they wouldn't have made such a quick decision.
"From now on, don't go to the black market anymore.
Luckily, the Pokémon you sold there aside from Butterfree and Pichu were mostly aggressive types like Arbok.
The first two are doing just fine now.
But if you hadn't drawn that line, your temperament wouldn't have been suitable for our school."
Nobuhiko grumbled as he spoke.
"I understand. That's my bottom line too," Silas replied sincerely.
Otherwise, he could've used Zero to catch all sorts of strong Pokémon and exchange them for money.
Nobuhiko's expression eased slightly. He knew how hard it was growing up as an orphan.
"Next, I'm going to teach you our school's Secret Manual. You'll need to stay here for a while before continuing your journey."
"That's fine but I do plan to take the Breeder Certification Exam afterward."
Silas responded with clarity.
"No problem. Shouldn't conflict with the schedule," Nobuhiko said after some quick mental calculations.
"Then let's begin right away.
First our so-called Secret Manual is essentially a long-term accumulation of methods for awakening the energy within oneself.
Different kinds of inner energy led to the formation of different schools of training.
For example, take the Blackthorn Gym.
They have control over the Dragon's Den behind them, and every descendant of the Gym enters it to meditate and awaken their energy.
Our school, on the other hand, focuses more on physical development.
That's also why my teacher agreed to take you on behalf of his master.
From what we can see, your physical condition is far beyond that of an average person even stronger than mine, in fact.
But having a strong body doesn't mean you have sufficient control over it.
The first step to comprehending our Secret Manual is gaining deep control over your own body.
You don't need to reach perfection, but you can't be as stiff and inflexible as you are now.
Come on follow my lead."
Inside the Fighting Dojo, Silas followed Nobuhiko's lead, mimicking a series of strange and awkward poses.
Remember what Bruno once told Ash?
"If there's any secret technique, it's the bond between Pokémon and humans."
