Jorell paced restlessly in his office, his fingers curling into fists at his sides and unclenching just as quickly. The late evening sun cast a crimson hue across the walls, but he barely noticed. His thoughts were too scattered, his nerves too on edge to focus on anything else.
He kept glancing at the clock, the large golden hands ticking too slowly for his liking. Every second that passed without news gnawed at his patience. He muttered under his breath, dragging a hand through his already disheveled hair.
Unable to bear the suffocating tension within the four walls any longer, he abruptly stormed out of the office and into the courtyard. His boots thudded heavily on the stone floor as he resumed his pacing under the open sky, the moon partially visible behind drifting clouds.
The guards stationed nearby kept their heads low, their expressions carefully neutral, but their eyes followed his every move with thinly veiled concern.
