When we returned to the palace, I was completely drained, both in body and mind. The shock still held me tightly. Xavier had lost everything in just one night. His whole family—gone. They didn't die from sickness or any natural cause. They were murdered. I couldn't stop thinking about the horror they must have gone through. I imagined their cries for help, the fear in those little children's eyes, begging for one more chance to live, hoping the killer might show them mercy.
Tears ran down my cheeks. My heart was heavy with pain and anger. I couldn't understand how anyone could be so wicked, so heartless. How could someone take the lives of innocent children? This was pure cruelty, and no matter who was behind it, I knew I could never forgive them.
"What do you think, my lady?" Marissa asked in a broken voice. She had been crying all through the journey, and now that we had stepped down from the carriage, her tears started again. "Do you think Sabrina really did this?"
