It was already afternoon, yet not a single word had come from the king. Fortuna sat in silence, wondering if Karl had completely forgotten that she was locked away, or if he remembered too well and just didn't care. Maybe he was too busy with Katrina, wrapped up in her fake sweetness, blinded by her lies. The thought of them together twisted something deep in her chest. It made her stomach turn. That woman had done nothing but bring pain into her life.
Tired of waiting like a prisoner, Fortuna got up from the bed and walked to the door. She knocked, firm and clear, but no one answered. Of course, they wouldn't. They were following the king's orders, and no one dared to go against him. She stood there for a while, thinking of anything that might make the guards open the door, but she already knew—nothing would work. Not for her.
