Chapter 104: Dark Demon Peeks at the Cult
Although Dark Demon had spoken of "enjoying the drama," now was clearly not the time to consider that.
He only pondered for a moment before giving DemiDevimon a look. Then, he found the entrance to the secret passage and channeled his magic into it.
As the wall rippled like water, DemiDevimon plunged its head in.
A few seconds later, it poked its head out from the wall again: "Safe!"
Dark Demon slipped through and immediately entered.
The torches on both sides of the secret passage were already lit; this setup could easily lead to his presence being exposed.
But there was no better way at the moment.
He glanced at the ground and noticed that water stains remained in the secret passage, indicating someone had entered not long ago.
He followed the water trail.
Finally, at a fork in the road, the water trail suddenly disappeared.
But having reached this point, Dark Demon was mostly certain that the other party's destination was that temple!
He quickened his pace along the route to the temple.
Dark Demon soon arrived at the place where he had previously fought Virt. Another turn, and he found that the path leading directly to the temple was brightly lit.
A few bats, from an unknown origin, flew towards the temple along the light, and faint, noisy sounds could be heard.
"Looks like some kind of gathering?"
Dark Demon observed briefly and chose to take a detour.
Finally, after a few minutes, he neared the temple.
Unsure if anyone was hiding outside, Dark Demon didn't get too close, merely stopping at a corner about ten meters from the temple to observe.
Peeking out slightly from here, he could already see shadowy figures densely packed within the temple.
"Is it that Seafood Cult?"
A thought stirred in Dark Demon's mind; he realized Virt had very likely been captured and brought here by the Cult members.
Although he knew little about the Cult.
But based on what such cults typically do, a little thought could give some idea.
"Worship, sacrifice, or something else?"
...
"ROAR—"
Suddenly, a beast's roar, as if it would pierce the entire castle, erupted from directly above.
Caught off guard, Dark Demon instinctively clapped his hands over his ears and retreated.
Immediately after, an equally piercing dragon's cry resounded through the night sky, startling the students in the castle one after another.
Dark Demon was momentarily unsure what had happened, only seeing that people in the temple were also frightened. A few even rushed out quickly but retreated just as fast.
And the roaring sound from above was suddenly cut off, and the surroundings became deathly silent again.
Dark Demon pressed himself against the wall, holding his breath, and after a moment, regained his composure.
Then he quickly realized that there was no one hiding in the shadows outside the temple.
As for the beastly roar from above, it was highly probable that the final BOSS on the ninth floor of the castle had been summoned.
This was a fixed event every Halloween.
It wasn't surprising.
...
Dark Demon sent DemiDevimon to scout ahead. After confirming that no one was hiding outside, he cautiously crept along the wall to the temple entrance.
By now, the sounds from inside were very clear.
Although his line of sight was relatively narrow, he could glimpse a corner of the temple.
A single glance made Dark Demon's heart jolt.
He had speculated about the Cult's actions, but he had never imagined they would target students.
"Since Professor Kazel has already investigated, such a thing shouldn't be allowed to happen!"
But the facts were right before him, leaving no room for disbelief.
Even a cursory glance revealed more than ten pairs of male and female students tied up inside.
Dark Demon immediately spotted Robert at the outermost edge.
He was tied up with another girl, a cloth stuffed in his mouth, but he seemed to be in good condition, his eyes wide and glaring, looking quite spirited.
Scott, wearing the Cuttlefish leather suit, stood before him, jutting his chin at him.
Unfortunately, Dark Demon couldn't find Virt's figure among them.
Was he tied up in another corner?
...
Apart from Scott, who was guarding the captives, the other cult members were busy.
They were drawing an extremely complex magic circuit around the goddess statue and placing magic candles carved with special patterns at the nodes of the circuit.
Once the setup was complete.
A cult member wearing a Moray Eel head came over, looking at Robert and the girl behind him with great interest.
She asked curiously, "Are these the couples you captured?"
Scott said proudly, "Don't worry, they definitely meet the standard."
Miss Moray Eel nodded slightly, "That's good. After tonight, everything will change."
Scott was also excited, "As long as the goddess is resurrected, we will be the goddess's most devout followers, and they will all sing praises of our names."
Miss Moray Eel smiled faintly, "I don't have such grand ambitions. I'll be satisfied if all the heartbreakers in the world die."
Scott: "..."
...
After a while.
A person wearing a Sea Star leather suit appeared in Dark Demon's field of vision.
After circling the couples, he reached down, and a magic card appeared at his fingertips.
"Magic Summon."
The last whispers of the couples vanished completely.
It was clearly a [Silence Card]!
This discovery made Dark Demon even more vigilant.
Someone capable of refining a [Silence Card] was bound to be among the best of the senior students.
It seemed not all members of this cult were as useless as Scott.
Mr. Sea Star didn't stop there.
He then took out a tiny bottle. After his lips moved a few times, a crystal-clear drop of liquid was coaxed out of the bottle.
Among the bound couples, someone seemed to recognize the origin of this liquid and suddenly struggled and roared.
But his voice had already been silenced by the [Silence Card] and not a sound escaped.
Mr. Sea Star smiled, "As expected of Antonio, he even recognizes Soul-Lost Water."
That person struggled even more violently!
But Mr. Sea Star then flicked his finger, and that drop of Soul-Lost Water shot into the person's brow.
In an instant, the person stopped struggling, his pupils dilated, and he lost consciousness.
...
Dark Demon, hiding outside, frowned.
He found himself facing another knowledge gap.
Soul-Lost Water, what exactly was it?
...
It seemed it wasn't just him.
Apart from Antonio and the sixteen cult members, the rest clearly didn't know what Soul-Lost Water was.
But this didn't stop them from struggling desperately after seeing Antonio's fate.
A few people even managed to break their ropes and lunged at the cult members.
But without magic cards, they were suppressed again in just two minutes.
Mr. Sea Star dripped Soul-Lost Water onto their brows.
As the Soul-Lost Water seeped into their brains, everyone lost consciousness.
...
Although Dark Demon wanted to intervene multiple times, rational thought prevailed, and he ultimately held back.
