After resurrecting Yahiko and expending a considerable amount of Chakra, Naruto felt the fatigue finally catch up with him. Deciding it was the perfect time to have a proper talk with Kurama, he headed back to his room, lay down, and allowed himself a moment of rest.
"I might as well take this chance to have a proper conversation with Kurama," Naruto thought to himself as he closed his eyes.
While Naruto was in communion with Kurama, his longtime rival and companion, Sasuke Uchiha, was also interacting with the tailed beasts. However, his method was far from peaceful.
"Listen up, you tailed beasts," Sasuke said coldly, his voice reverberating through the chamber of the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path. "You'd better behave, or I'll kill you one by one."
He glared down at them with his Rinnegan activated, his gaze piercing and domineering.
Son Gokū snarled, "You bastard!!!"
Sasuke turned his Rinnegan toward Son Gokū, and in an instant, the Four-Tails' eyes were overtaken by the ripple-pattern of the Rinnegan. His consciousness was swiftly suppressed and absorbed.
The other six tailed beasts were shocked. With just a single glance, Sasuke had paralyzed Son Gokū!
From the sidelines, Obito clapped slowly. "Impressive. Your learning ability is remarkable, Sasuke."
Sasuke sneered. "What's next?"
A low hissing sound echoed in the shadows, and Sasuke's eyes narrowed as Kabuto Yakushi emerged from the darkness.
"Is he part of this too?" Sasuke asked, clearly displeased with Kabuto's arrival.
Kabuto smiled slyly. "Don't mind me, Sasuke. I'm just here to deliver something."
With that, Kabuto formed a hand seal, and seven coffins rose from the ground with a dull thud. The lid of each coffin crashed open, revealing seven lifeless bodies inside.
"The Jinchūriki of the seven tailed beasts have all been reincarnated via Edo Tensei," Kabuto announced with a grin.
"I brought what you asked for, Obito," he added.
Obito nodded. "Excellent."
Sasuke eyed the corpses suspiciously. "What are they for?"
Obito didn't respond immediately. Instead, he stepped into a dimly lit corner of the chamber and retrieved a large metallic bag. The clinking of metal from within it echoed as he dragged it across the stone floor.
He tossed it in front of Kabuto. "Let's begin."
Kabuto gave a thin smile. "Aren't you going to assist?"
Obito pulled surgical gloves from the side and began putting them on. "Of course. Sasuke, come watch. I'll teach you."
At Kabuto's signal, the seven reincarnated Jinchūriki stood upright in a row, eyes vacant under the control of Edo Tensei.
Sasuke walked over and unzipped the metal bag. Inside were several iron rods, each about thirty centimeters long and as thick as two fingers. He picked one up, examining it carefully.
"What the hell is this?" Sasuke asked, turning to Obito.
"Infuse it with Chakra and you'll understand," Obito replied while searching for a scalpel.
Skeptical, Sasuke poured his Chakra into the rod—and his eyes narrowed. The rod absorbed it.
At Kabuto's direction, the first Jinchūriki—Han, former Jinchūriki of the Five-Tails—was guided to a crude stone operating table. Kabuto tore open the front of Han's outfit, exposing his pale chest.
"Sasuke, hand me one of the rods," Kabuto instructed.
Sasuke scoffed. "Do I look like your assistant?"
Kabuto sighed theatrically. "As expected."
A large snake emerged from under Kabuto's robe, slithering along the ground, looping around the strap of the metal bag, and delivering it to Kabuto's side.
Obito picked up a scalpel and made a deep incision in Han's chest. Kabuto inserted the metal rod into the opening.
Sasuke frowned. "You're planning to control them using Chakra through these rods?"
Obito nodded. "Not just me. You, too."
Sasuke furrowed his brows. "It's a woman's body. Why would you implant the rod there?"
Kabuto chuckled darkly. "Oh? Sasuke-kun is showing sympathy?"
"I'm just making an observation," Sasuke said sharply.
Obito explained, "These Chakra receivers are essential. Placing them somewhere exposed would allow opponents to identify and remove them. By hiding them, we ensure the host's body remains fully under our control."
Sasuke understood immediately—these rods were the core flaw of the Edo Tensei Jinchūriki. If the rods were extracted, they could potentially be disabled. Otherwise, being reanimated corpses, they couldn't be truly killed.
Working with precise efficiency, Obito and Kabuto installed the black receivers into all seven Jinchūriki.
Once the final rod was placed, Kabuto handed over full control of the Edo Tensei Jinchūriki to Obito. With a respectful nod, Kabuto took his leave—Obito clearly didn't want him witnessing what came next.
Obito turned to Sasuke. "Now, we will seal the seven tailed beasts from the Gedo Statue into these Jinchūriki one by one."
Sasuke blinked. "Why not seal them into me? Why them?"
Obito's tone was calm. "Sealing a tailed beast into a host is an incredibly dangerous process. You've seen what it did to Naruto. Many don't survive.
Using tailed beasts by sealing them inside one's body is the path of the weak. We Uchiha don't need that."
He pointed at his Rinnegan. "With the power of the Rinnegan, we can control the tailed beasts directly. Like how Madara once used the Mangekyō Sharingan to control Kurama during his battle with Hashirama."
Sasuke's chest swelled slightly at the comparison, but he scoffed. "Don't compare me to that relic. I'm not Madara."
Obito's eye twitched beneath the mask, but he didn't respond.
"Next," he continued, "I'll show you how to seal each of the tailed beasts into these vessels. It will take time. After the sealing, I'll teach you how to use the Rinnegan to synchronize with the Chakra receivers, to control both the Jinchūriki and the tailed beasts inside them. You have the patience to learn?"
Sasuke frowned. "So now you're giving me lessons?"
Obito replied, "No. I'm teaching you powerful Ninjutsu."
Sasuke glanced back at the seven tailed beasts sealed in the Gedo Statue. He recalled how Obito had taught him to connect with the statue—something not just anyone could do.
Up to now, Obito hadn't betrayed him or attempted manipulation. In fact, he had continuously helped Sasuke grow stronger.
Sasuke considered this and finally nodded. "Fine. Let's begin."
A slight smirk curved the edge of Obito's mouth. But under the mask, Sasuke couldn't see it.
Though Obito's true identity was no longer a secret, he still wore the mask.
Because to him, the mask represented more than just anonymity—it represented control, the illusion of shadows guiding the world from the darkness.
