Will felt a headache coming on as he stood before the figure calling himself Sebastian—known to the world as Ash. He had never heard of anyone quite like him.
Training Dark-type Pokémon to such an extent was exceptional, and while he regarded Green as a formidable trainer, Ash was clearly a cut above.
As he watched Ash's Absol, Will threw a Poké Ball, declaring, "Go, Dragonite! Use Hyper Beam!"
"Roar!"
As Dragonite appeared, it unleashed a powerful Hyper Beam toward Ash and his Pokémon. In response, Ash instructed Absol to counter with Dark Pulse.
The two beams collided, resulting in a massive explosion that echoed across the battlefield.
"Be careful! That Dragonite is likely his ace! Avoid its attacks and hit it with Ice Beam!"
"Woo!"
Absol nodded and raced toward Dragonite while unleashing an Ice Beam.
"Dodge, Dragonite!"
Seeing Absol's Ice Beam approach, Will's expression changed; despite being a non-typical Ice-type move, Absol was of the same Champion level as Dragonite, making it a formidable opponent. Will would not let his Dragonite take a hit from a four-times effective attack.
Dragonite swiftly evaded the Ice Beam and retaliated with Dragon Pulse, while Absol prepared its own Dark Pulse to counter.
Boom!
Another explosion rocked the air, and as Dragonite watched the smoke from the blast, a flurry of Air Blades shot out toward its wings from within the cloud. Despite this sudden assault, Dragonite remained unfazed, countering the blades with its flaming fists.
"Did it start gathering its Air Blade again from earlier? But what does that matter?"
Watching Absol unleash its Air Blade, Will fell into thought. Despite the move's high accuracy, it was no threat to Dragonite; those blades weren't swift enough to faze it.
"Dragonite, don't engage—use Thunder Wave!"
"Woo!"
Upon hearing Will's command, Dragonite shot out Thunder Wave toward Absol. The Dark-type quickly evaded, knowing that getting paralyzed in this battle would leave it defenseless.
Right when Absol dodged, Dragonite charged in with a Flame Punch that landed squarely on Absol.
"Woo!"
In pain from the impact, Absol bit down on Dragonite's arm and initiated Psycho Cut.
As Dragonite bore the searing pain, it retaliated with a Thunderbolt against Absol, sending electric shocks coursing through its frame.
The battle was fierce; Absol's Psycho Cut carved through Dragonite's scales, while Dragonite's Thunderbolt continuously struck Absol. Neither Pokémon was willing to relent.
With Absol tightly gripping Dragonite while it remained loyal to Ash, both Pokémon endured immense pain yet incessantly attacked each other. In the midst of this standoff, both Will and Ash shouted simultaneously, "Now! Use Dragon Tail!/ Dark Pulse!"
As the commands echoed, Dragonite swung its mighty tail toward Absol, while Absol unleashed a torrent of Dark Pulse.
Boom!
When their attacks collided, both Pokémon fell from the sky.
Ash and Will bolted toward their Pokémon, with Ash swiftly catching Absol, and Will calling forth two Bagon to lessen Dragonite's fall.
Watching Will with keen eyes, Ash silently fed Absol a potent recovery capsule he had crafted himself, and as Absol consumed it, its wounds healed at remarkable speed.
"Are you okay?"
"Woo!" (I'm fine!)
Absol quickly regained peak condition and directed its gaze toward Will's Dragonite. Observing this rapid recovery, Will's brow furrowed. He realized that Ash's Absol had indeed healed completely, even faster than his Dragonite with its recovery skills. He could sense Absol's eagerness to help Ash defeat him.
"Hmph… what an interesting opponent! Dragonite, use Fire Blast on Absol! Bagon, double Twister on Houndoom and Arcanine!"
Despite sensing the tension, Will recognized that prolonging the battle was no longer wise, so he prepared to unleash his finishing moves.
As the enormous fire and wind attacks approached, Ash's masked expression twisted into a strange grin. In that moment, a mysterious purple aura enveloped Ash, and so did Houndoom, Absol, and a hidden Pokémon lurking in the shadows.
"Finish them!"
As Ash snapped his fingers, Houndoom, Absol, and a third figure emerged from the forest in a flash of brilliant light.
One figure cleaved through the Twister, another tore through it, while the last maligned figure countered the Fire Blast head-on.
Revealed from the brilliance were Mega Absol, Mega Houndoom, and Mega Beedrill, having thwarted Will's attacks.
The sight of these unfamiliar Mega Evolutions left everyone in stunned silence.
"Roar!!!!" *2
As the crowd trembled at the unprecedented view, both Mega Houndoom and Mega Absol roared in unison, charging toward Dragonite, engulfed in ominous dark energy.
"Cerberus. Inferno! Cerberus. Abyss! Double Devour!"
"Roar!!!!" *2
With the duo racing forward, Bagon let out a pained cry as it fell, while Mega Beedrill turned its gaze toward Dragonite, knowing this would be its greatest challenge thus far.
As chaos erupted in the arena, the true terror of the Dark-type Pokémon was unleashed.
