"High-purity diamonds, belladonna berries, moonrose petals, ranoglin grass, plus the eyes of a three-year-old male crow and the heart of a five-foot-nine-inch venomous snake?"
Noah frowned as he read the list.
He genuinely didn't know what these things were meant for.
Taken separately, he could think of countless potions or rituals that used them.
But combined like this?
That crossed into a blind spot of his knowledge.
Or maybe the effect produced by combining them was simply too sinister.
So sinister that no one bothered to record it.
Individually, these materials weren't hard to find-if you knew where to look.
Belladonna berries, for example, were abundant in Britain.
You could even call them a local specialty ingredient.
With money, you could buy them.
But not in bulk.
Belladonna was dangerous.
Ordinary people would die from consuming it.
Even sorcerers wouldn't touch it casually.
It required multiple layers of processing and was usually sold only after being turned into finished potions.
Ranoglin grass and moonrose petals were the same.
Belladonna was actually the easiest of the three.
The other two were far more troublesome.
As for the crow's eyes and the snake's heart?
Those were worse.
Money alone might not even work.
"Besides," Noah shook his head, "they don't have money."
He was certain of that.
Kaecilius himself wasn't wealthy.
Kamar-Taj covered food and lodging, nothing more.
Its own operations consumed enormous funds.
If not for Noah's university tuition program, Kamar-Taj wouldn't be living so comfortably.
Sure, Kaecilius's apprentices could manipulate wealthy tycoons.
But doing so would immediately attract the Ministry of Magic's attention.
That would only cause trouble.
Especially in Britain.
Sanctums everywhere.
And Noah himself was here.
Someone who had a ninety-nine percent chance of becoming the next Sorcerer Supreme.
No one would dare gamble in this place.
"Is that everything?" Noah finished writing down the materials and looked at William.
"Yes," William nodded. "That's all they requested. I don't know what they're planning, but it's definitely nothing good. I've already notified the York Magic Association to closely monitor the trade market."
"Excellent," Noah smiled. "Thank you for your help, William. We won't trouble you further."
"It's my honor," William replied with a slight bow. "I wish you the best."
Noah nodded.
With a casual wave, a golden portal opened.
He stepped through with Nagini.
The portal vanished.
They were back in London.
They walked along the streets without entering the magical world, remaining in the mundane side.
The atmosphere felt completely different.
Nagini looked around, relaxed.
Everything felt both unfamiliar and familiar.
"It's been a long time since I've been in the mundane world," she said. "Ever since settling in Leeds, I've barely left."
"Honestly," Noah sighed, then smiled, "a lot of people should thank you. If not for you, the Druid race wouldn't have settled so smoothly."
Nagini tilted her head.
"Nothing else will happen now?"
"Probably not," Noah replied casually.
She paused.
"Then what about that list?"
"It's not a serious issue," Noah said. "We'll see how Mr. Moore handles it. But one thing caught my attention."
"Oh?"
"Diamonds," Noah smiled. "Those don't only exist in the magical world."
Diamonds were easier to obtain in the mundane world.
Far easier.
As long as you had money, you could get as many as you wanted.
Most of the diamonds Noah used in experiments came from the mundane world.
The real question was how Kaecilius's apprentices planned to get the money.
And how they intended to avoid the Ministry's surveillance.
After thinking it over, Noah decided to look for Constantine.
Compared to a wizard who was recognized everywhere, an exorcist was much better suited for discreet investigation.
"Sooo... what do we do now?"
Inside a pub, Everett stared at Strange with frustration.
"And do you think Adam Lestrange is actually a werewolf?"
"I'm not sure," Strange said seriously, resting his chin on his hands. "Possibly. We'll need to test it."
"And what about our next step?"
"I don't know yet," Strange admitted. "But I do have an idea."
Everett leaned forward immediately.
"What is it? Just tell me what you need."
"I think we'll need to enter the magical world," Strange said quietly after taking a sip of beer. "I need to buy some materials. Very special ones."
The situation was giving him a headache.
Not just him-Everett was the same.
They had no leads.
No full moon.
No suspicious surveillance footage.
Mia Lestrange had vanished completely.
No vehicles entered or left that night.
They even searched for freshly dug pits nearby.
Nothing.
Except for a hole dug by a dog.
Inside were only unidentifiable animal bones.
Adam Lestrange's relationship with his wife was unusually good.
Strange saw it firsthand.
Neighbors confirmed it.
Emotionally stable. No drinking habit.
An iron turtle.
Completely sealed.
Only one person stood out.
Cassie.
She clearly liked her brother-in-law.
And when she heard they were detectives, her panic was obvious.
Something was wrong with her.
Very wrong.
"The magical world?" Everett's eyes widened. "Where wizards live?"
"Yes," Strange glared at him. "And lower your voice. Do you want the Ministry investigating me and wiping your memory?"
"Oh-sorry!" Everett whispered hurriedly. "I got excited. That's incredible. What are we buying?"
"The eyes of an Egyptian cat. The tail of a Tennessee rat. And some herbs."
Strange listed them calmly.
"Moonlit powder. Fuzzycap mushrooms. Bloodmoss."
The recipe came from the agency archives.
Created by Constantine himself.
As the most experienced exorcist alive, everything Constantine developed was practical.
Extremely so.
This formula could retrace events from the past.
It had conditions.
Few people passing through the area, or a clearly remembered time point.
Otherwise, the backlash could make you cough blood.
Even so, countless exorcists coveted it.
Without powerful magic or deep magical knowledge, this was the best investigative method available.
Everett's expression turned strange.
Cat eyes?
Rat tail-from a specific place?
And a pile of plants he'd never heard of.
Wizard stuff was... intense.
He downed his beer and asked,
"So what does it actually do?"
"It lets us see what we want to see," Strange smiled faintly.
"It tells us the truth."
