In the horrified eyes of Noah and Snape, the serpent-shaped soul of Nagini slowly unraveled its tightly coiled bodyārevealing a woman with her eyes closed!
The sudden scene nearly scared the two men out of their wits.
What was going on?
Were there actually three souls within this snake?
Snape and Noah exchanged confused looks. It was apparent that Noah hadn't controlled these souls strictly enough, and thenā
"Damn it!"
In an instant, the three souls suddenly separated completely. The serpent-shaped Nagini soul, along with Voldemort's soul, flew out at once.
Just like how Noah had dealt with the Dementors before, Voldemort and the serpent-shaped soul turned to ashes the moment they left his control.
However, the woman's soulāthe one entangled by the serpent-shaped spiritāwas saved, as Noah snapped back to his senses in time and seized control of it. That prevented her from vanishing alongside the others.
As for the other two⦠they were likely gone for good.
Souls fear sunlight, and it was currently noon, the peak of daylight.
Just to be safe, Noah cast an additional spell on the soul fragments that flew off. He was nearly certain that Voldemort's fragment wouldn't pose any more threats.
But the woman's soul⦠that truly caught Noah off guard. His mind was still a little clouded.
Noah wasn't entirely ignorant of Nagini's condition. In his understanding, she had been cursed, and her recovery seemed improbable.
But now, he had just discovered that the so-called "curse" was actually the soul of a beast residing in her body.
Somehow, that beast's soul had gained dominance and completely suppressed her human soul.
"Did I just do a good deed by accident?"
Noah rubbed his chin. He honestly hadn't expected things to go so smoothly for once.
Now it made senseāwhy experimenting on this snake had always proven so difficult.
Because there were three souls inside it!
No wonder none of Noah's attempts in the system space had worked. Every time he believed he had succeeded, he had merely destroyed Voldemort's soul while sparing the serpent's.
He never considered that the snake's tightly wrapped presence might be hiding something else entirely.
And now, with two souls eliminated?
It was still a failed experiment in a way, because the serpent's soul had been clinging to the woman'sāso they perished together.
"What was that just now? A snake wrapped around a woman?"
Snape finally regained his composure, still looking at the floating soul with confusion.
"How should I know? That's the first time I've seen something like that."
Noah pursed his lips. Even if he did know, he wasn't planning to explain.
But then it clickedāNagini had once met Professor Dumbledore.
She was a friend of Credence Barebone, Dumbledore's younger brother. Credence had considered her a dear companion. She had even tried to keep him from joining Grindelwald's cause.
Unfortunately, she failed. Eventually, she had gone to Hogwarts with Newt and the others.
Newt had handed Grindelwald's blood pact to middle-aged Dumbledore, urging him to resolve his personal battle.
Maybe calling Dumbledore over would simplify things?
"Why don't we call Professor Dumbledore over?"
Noah rubbed his temples, then glanced at little Lily, who was still giggling, and smiled faintly.
"They say cheerful kids are lucky. Looks like Lily's our lucky star. This experiment⦠was a success. A major success."
"Really?"
Professor Snape couldn't help but smile, glancing at his child. Then he turned around.
"Stay here. I'll go get Albus."
Noah nodded as Snape walked out. He turned back to look at the still-sleeping soul.
After a moment of contemplation, Noah raised his wand and gently guided the woman's soul into the body of the snake lying nearby.
It was a tremendous drain on his energy, but Noah didn't hesitate.
As the soul merged with the snake's body, a faint light began to glow from the creature.
The glow intensified, growing brighter and more radiant. Soon, the snake was fully wrapped in blinding brilliance.
Noah watched, wide-eyed, as the snake began to enlarge.
And thenāits form started to change.
It was no longer a snake.
"What the hell? Could it be that blood-cursed orcs were actually the first Animagi? Or⦠is it the other way around? That Animagi were inspired by them?"
Noah scratched his chin, observing carefully. He remained cautiousāafter all, this snake had once been deadly enough to bite Snape to death. Noah wasn't foolish enough to assume he was immune.
When the light finally faded, a woman lay peacefully on the floor. Her features were soft and calm, and she appeared to be breathing normally.
What surprised Noah, however, was that the shed snake skin had turned into clothes.
That⦠was a bit awkward.
"What happened here?"
Just as Noah was still staring at the newly awakened Sleeping Beauty, Professors Snape and Dumbledore enteredāfollowed by Professor Lupin and Sirius Black.
Since Noah had conducted his experiment in the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom, Lupin's presence made sense.
As for Siriusāhe was now working at Hogwarts, though he wasn't a professor. He mostly roamed around, helping where needed, and relished the opportunity to see and talk to Harry freely.
"Is that⦠Nagini?"
Professor Dumbledore looked at the unconscious woman, a buried memory surfacing in his mind.
"You recognize her, Professor? But where did she come from?"
Lupin and Black looked completely baffled.
"You put the woman's soul into the snake's body?"
Snape asked, hesitantly.
"Yes. My magic control isn't perfect, and I can't keep a soul outside its body for long. So I placed her soul back. The resultā¦"
Noah gestured vaguely at the now-human Nagini.
"ā¦She turned back. She must be a blood-cursed orc. Fascinating."
Snape, knowledgeable as he was, mulled over Noah's words and the scene he'd witnessed. His expression confirmed he had arrived at the same conclusion.
Finally, all eyes turned to Dumbledoreāwho still hadn't taken his eyes off the woman.
"This⦠was a long time ago. I didn't thinkā"
Dumbledore sighed.
"I didn't think she would survive⦠and become like this."
"What do you mean, Professor?"
Blake, a bold Gryffindor, spoke up without hesitation, eyes full of curiosity.
"About fifty years ago, this girl came to Hogwarts. Back then, our enemy was Grindelwald. I assumed Tom using her name was a mere coincidenceā¦"
Dumbledore trailed off, the weight of old memories settling over him.
Noah had a vague idea of what Dumbledore meant. He remembered the scene where Grindelwald told Credence, "You are also a Dumbledore."
"Alright, Professor. We're not here to dig up painful memories. What should we do about Ms. Nagini?"
Noah asked the most pressing question on his mind.
"Noah, you saved her. When you leave, take her with you. She may need your help one day."
Noah's eyebrows lifted.
Take her with him?
Sure, he could⦠but that didn't mean he wanted to.
If she had stayed a snake, maybe Noah would have considered itāfor the sake of experimentation.
But now, he had rescued herāand the snake's soul had burned away with Voldemort's. There was little chance she'd revert into a snake again.
Still, after a moment of silence, Noah said nothing to oppose Dumbledore's decision.
When he left, he could always just "forget" about her. It wasn't that big a deal.
"By the way, Noah," Sirius suddenly piped up, "Did you remove Voldemort's soul from her body?"
"Huh? Oh. Yeah."
Noah snapped out of his thoughts and nodded.
"Though it was more luck than skill. Honestly, it's hard to be precise with three souls inside one body. If Harry only has two, I should be able to help him more easily."
Indeed, Noah never expected three souls to be present. He had been too careless in the system space.
But now that he knew, and solved it by sheer luck, helping Harry shouldn't be a problem.
"Really? Then can you help Harry?"
"I think so."
"Then what are you waiting for?"
"Please, I just finished dealing with one. I'm exhausted. Let's take it step by step, alright? Don't rush me."
