Chapter 35 - 35. Elara and the Curse

It had been a few days since the toad had cursed the Lich. Eryndor was happy today, he had been smirking for a while, and Krog was really confused with what was going on with Eryndor. Eryndor and the toad had a wicked grin on their faces, they both looked like peas in a pod, obviously, no one could see the toad, so Eryndor was looking a bit foolish.

The toad wickedly said, "Boss, I know where the Lich is, I can see my curse on him, why don't we visit him once he's dead and rob him?"

Eryndor's eyes lit up with excitement. "What? You know his location?" he asked.

The toad replied, "Obviously, after all, I know where my curse is being used."

Eryndor nodded, a plan forming in his mind. "That is very important information," he said.

Eryndor decided to visit the Lich's lair once he was too weakened by the curse. Unable to stop himself, Krog finally asked, "Master, what is going on?"

Eryndor smiled, a mischievous glint in his eye. "I've cursed the Lich with bad luck, now bad things will continue to happen to him and they'll only increase. Once the Lich is weakened to a certain extent, we'll visit his lair, take our revenge, and rob him," he said.

Krog's eyes widened in surprise. "You have such a divine skill," he said, internally thinking that it was a smart idea to become Eryndor's subordinate and not his enemy.

The duo returned to the motel, where maid Fianna welcomed them and told them that Doctor Elara had been waiting for Krog. Eryndor thanked the maid and asked her to bring the doctor to Krog's room.

As Elara entered, the fairy came out of Eryndor's forehead. Eryndor wondered why she came out in such a hurry. He asked her telepathically, "What's the matter?"

The fairy replied, "This woman is in a disguise".

As the fairy's words hung in the air, Eryndor's eyes narrowed in suspicion. "What do you mean, she's in a disguise?" he asked telepathically.

The fairy's delicate wings fluttered as she hovered beside Eryndor's head. "I mean that Doctor Elara is not what she seems," she explained, her voice barely above a whisper. "She is a being of immense power, far beyond that of a mere mortal. In fact, she is a hundred times stronger than a Lich, and capable of fighting toe-to-toe with an Angel."

Eryndor's eyes widened in shock as he processed the fairy's words. A Lich was already a powerful undead creature, feared throughout the land for its mastery of dark magic. And an Angel... well, an Angel was a being of divine power, a servant of the gods themselves. The idea that Doctor Elara was capable of fighting on equal terms with such a being was almost unimaginable.

"But why is she pretending to be a doctor?" Eryndor asked, his voice filled with confusion. "Why is she taking days to heal Krog when she could do it in an instant?"

The fairy's expression turned serious. "That is the question, isn't it?" she said. "Why would a being of such immense power bother to disguise herself as a humble doctor? And why would she take so long to heal Krog, when she could do it in the blink of an eye?"

Eryndor's mind was racing with possibilities.

Thinking for a moment the toad asked , "Should I curse her, Boss?"

Eryndor replied, "No... we don't know what she's after, and she has done nothing to harm us. Instead, she has only helped Krog. I won't repay someone's kindness with malice."

Eryndor further added, "But we have to find out what she's after."

Elara said, "I've healed him for today, tomorrow will be the last day for my healing, he's almost cured."

The duo thanked Elara, and Eryndor thought telepathically, "We should know where she lives first. It's time to bring out my trusty stealthy cloak."

The toad replied, "Yes, boss," his eyes shining with excitement.

But the fairy rebuked them, "You idiots, do you think she is a lower being to not sense your measly stealth cloak?"

The heroic cloak that was about to come into this world and show his brave face was once again thrown back into the ring. Its first debut was cancelled.

Eryndor thought helplessly, "Then what should we do?"

Suddenly, an idea came to him. "Wait a moment, can you take back your curse?" he asked the toad.

The toad replied, sweating, "Boss... cursing is a one-way street, there's no... taking back."

Eryndor rebuked the toad, "Blast it, you useless thing, can't even take a simple curse back."

The toad face-palmed internally. "Seriously, Boss? You think a curse is like a sweater that can be returned to the store if it doesn't fit? 'Oh, I don't like this curse, can I get a refund?' Um, no. It's a curse, not a gift card."

The fairy intervened, "Don't mind him, I can remove his curse."

Eryndor said, "My savior, she is the most useful one between you two."

The toad cried out, "Boss," but Eryndor rebuked him again, "Shaddup."

Eryndor ordered the toad, "Now curse her."

The toad excitedly exhaled a black gas that attached itself to Elara. Eryndor asked, "Say, how long will it take her to be cursed beyond help?"

The toad replied, "Probably a thousand years. After all, my curse is like an earthworm in front of her dragon-sized luck."

Eryndor was surprised, "That much?"

The toad's eyes went wide as he explained, "Think of a curse like a whirlpool, Boss. Once you're sucked in, you're doomed. And Doctor Elara? The curse on her is like a whirlpool on steroids - a massive, luck-sucking vortex that'll drag you down to the depths of despair. Anyone who crosses her path is basically asking to get himself killed... literally."

Meanwhile, a nearby mosquito's eyes grew wide with excitement as it gazed at Elara. "Mamacita!! What a beautiful lady, her blood must be exquisitely delicious!" It landed on her neck, ready to indulge in a bloody feast.

But, in a flash, a firm hand came crashing down, splattering the mosquito into a tiny, bloody mess.

Splat!!!

The mosquito's lifespan, already short, just got a whole lot shorter.

Elara, meanwhile, didn't even bat an eyelash. She just kept on talking, oblivious to the tiny tragedy that had just unfolded on her neck. "I'll come back tomorrow to check on Krog's condition. Make sure he gets plenty of rest."

Eryndor and Krog exchanged a bewildered glance. "Uh, okay," Eryndor said, trying to stifle a grin. "We'll make sure he gets plenty of rest." Krog, on the other hand, was too busy staring at the tiny mosquito splatter on Elara's neck to respond.

As Elara left, Eryndor turned to Krog and said, "You know, Krog, I think we're in over our heads with that doctor. She's not what she seems."
