"Son, I know you have feelings for Astrid, but Kael is her mate. The Moon Goddess chose them for each other."
"Astrid doesn't want Kael, Father. He hurt her."
"He's changed, Son. I was skeptical at first too, but it's true. And they deserve the chance to see if they can make things work. If they do, and they mark each other, she'll be much safer than she is now."
My father's tone was unusually gentle, and he looked at me with pity. The last time he looked at me like that was when he apologized for how he handled things after I messed up with Evelyn.
I didn't know what to do with this version of my father. Honestly, I almost preferred the a**hole bully he was 99.9% of the time.
Suddenly, I grabbed the corner of my desk and flipped it over in rage.
"Kael DOES NOT DESERVE HER!" I shouted.
My father said nothing.
