Chapter 40 - Put an end to this

Xavier

"I haven't seen Riley come to work. Is she okay?" Rhea asked.

I sighed, clutching the steering wheel. "She's been throwing a tantrum that she won't be coming to work as long as you're still working as my PA."

"It's been a month. I thought she'd come around by now. She must really hate me."

"Don't say that." I placed my hand on hers, giving it a gentle squeeze. "Let's give her some time."

"Okay."

I parked my car. We stepped inside Hilltop restaurant to grab us some lunch.

We were enjoying good conversation over lunch when out of nowhere, Rhea's face was splashed with red wine.

And I'd never have guessed. Riley was smirking, satisfaction painted on her face, holding the empty wine glass after just having poured all its contents on Rhea.

"That's what you get for trying to seduce my man." Riley said.

"Riley!" I yelled, standing up from my seat.

"And you." She pointed her finger at my chest. "Why are you entertaining another woman when you have me as your fiancée?"

"You're making a scene. Go home."

Riley was taken aback. I was really trying to hold myself back.

She glared back at me. "But, I still need to teach her a lesson."

I exhaled, gesturing to her bodyguards to get Riley out of there. She put up a fight but the two bodyguards were too strong for her.

I turned to face Rhea. Her white corporate blouse now had a big red stain. I felt really bad. Riley was getting out of control. I needed to put my foot down and put an end to this madness before it spiralled out of control.

"Are ou okay?" I knew that she wasn't okay, but I still asked.

Rhea gave me a tight-lipped smile. "I'm okay. Just need to change."

I quickly took off my jacket and draped it around her shoulders. We got out of the restaurant.

The drive back to her house was awfully quiet. When I parked outside her house, Rhea finally registered the fact that I had driven her back to her house.

"Why are we here?" She turned to face me, confused. "The day's not over yet. There's still a lot of work left to be done at the office."

"Don't worry about that." I smiled at her. "As your boss, I'm giving you the rest of the day off. Now go inside before I change my mind."

Rhea chuckled. "Thank you." She was about to take my jacket off her, but I didn't let her.

"Keep it on."

Rhea nodded her head and stepped out of my car. I waited for her to enter the house before I drove off to Riley's penthouse.

When I got there, Riley was on the living room couch enjoying on a glass of red wine. She smirked when she saw me.

I exhaled as I approached her. "Why are you really doing this?"

"Can't I just have some fun?"

I knelt before her, grabbing her glass of wine and putting it away. I held her hands in mine. "Please, baby. I need you to stop being mean to your sister."

A wave of silence passed.

Riley chuckled. "You know that's not possible. That rat is the reason why I'm making headlines for being the fake daughter!"

"That's not true. I had all those articles and gossip blogs taken down."

"But I'll still be looked down on for being being the fake daughter for the rest of my life. Why don't you get it?" She got up from the couch. I also got up to face her.

I held her shoulders. "I know this seems unfair. But, Rhea's also hurting."

Riley pushed me away, her eyes cold. "Why are you only seeing her side and not mine? I'm your fiancée for crying out loud! Why do I also have to compete with her just for you to see me?!"

"I do see you. Baby, I just..."

"Then, prove it."

"What?"

"Fire her from that job, and I never want to see you around her." She looked at me, expectant. "You'll do that for me, right?"

A wave of silence passed.

Riley was dejected. Tears streamed down her face as she plopped down on the couch.

I left her penthouse with a heavy heart.
