Cherreads

Chapter 6 - Devil

"It's so HOT!" A little girl not more than 5 years old whined, her caretaker following closely behind. "Well if you wanted ice cream you would've been careful and not botched the last job." He replied with tired eyes.

"I'm a kid! Maybe if I apologize really really REALLY hard, he'll forgive us?" Her eyes sparkled at the idea. "Star you're older than literally everyone at the office. I don't think he's ever looked at you as adorable and decided you deserve anything you want." He searched his pockets for his wallet, having only a few coins left.

"Marco, Marco, oh dear Marco." She said with a failing impression of a dunce pretending to be a genius. Her large puffy blonde hair flailing about. "Yeah you're right he looks at me like another adult." The realization barely struck. But she accepted it nonetheless.

"Okay...so we have just enough for our usuals. Please don't buy donuts again. I'm getting pissed at sugar." He added with obvious irritation, stopping at a bench seat right outside the shop.

Marco Zuggaleri - Vampire, 523 (24)

"You know you can go in, right? I mean we're Suits who are in proper uniform this time....so nothing's gonna happen."

Star - Galaxin, (over 1000)

He sighed heavily his dark brown skin almost melting into the same tone as his black hair. "It's a lot faster if you go on your own. You're actually friends with the owner and her kid." He stuck out a cigarette, lightning it with his pinky. "Let's just have normal coffee before something stupid happens, okay?"

She looked at him for a bit, before nodding a bit a rushing into the shop.

The shop looked cozy. With cream coloring on the walls, artistic coffee brown swirls designimg the walls, changing every so often. It wasn't that spacious, but it was enough. The atmosphere was relaxing. With quiet banter here and there, this was a favorite spot for a good number of people.

Star took of her jacket and hung it on her arm, quietly making herself welcome to the register. "Good Afternoon Mrs Djorno." She chirped. The woman turned around, revealing four white eyes and four arms, a short plump figure, and her dark green hair was tied neatly in a downward bun, her purple skin fitting nicely with her palette.

"Welcome back Star, fine day isn't it?" She had a Polish accent, her lovely white dress not too far from her ankles, and her sweet smile.

"It's been good Mrs Djorno. No devils today. Only a minor terrorist group and a 20KG bomb. But we stopped it!" Star beamed in excitement. "But I almost messed up so Asile District is under construction for a week or two. I'm sorry!"

Mrs Djorno signed before grabbing some paper cups. "Usually I'd complain about the major road to my home being destroyed...but you're a kid. Just try not to mess up next time."

She grabbed a handful of coffee beans and a pinch of galaxy dust, crushing them into the coffee maker. After a while she poured in a moderate amount of hot water in one cup, and filling the other to the brim. Topping it off with the ground coffee beans and galaxy dust.

"Thank you!"Star beamed with appreciation, ready to take their orders. Mrs Djorno moved uncomfortably for a while, before reaching under the counter, presenting a red letter.

"Do you mind giving this to your Division Captain? I can't exactly bring it to him myself." She shifted the letter to Star, who was unable to take it.

Star gave the letter a weird look, before realization dawned on her and she sniffed a bit. "Mrs Djorno... there's really nothing we can do about my caretaker. Rules are-"

"I know what your rules state, Star." She interrupted worriedly. "But I look at you as another child of mine, and I can't bare to see you go around the city with someone so dangerous. Not to mention there's been a spike in more Vampire attacks. I don't want to see you die in his hands, dear Star." She pleaded with hurt in her eyes.

Star stayed silent for a while. Her eyes shifting in every direction nervously. 'Mrs Djorno's already made up her mind. No use trying to change her mind....or anyone else's for that matter.' Her mind was racing.

"I'll give it to Captain, maybe he'll say something this time." She said uncomfortably but still soft enough to pass off as polite. Mrs Djorno smiled warmly at Star.

Unfortunately the peace didn't last for long, as rumbling suddenly shook the shop violently, showing no signs of stopping. "Crab Legs. I didn't even get to drink my coffee." Star whined with a serious face.

"Sorry Mrs Djorno." She dropped the cups back on the counter, shaking her hands a bit before summoning a spell circle. "Super Sparkly Bubble Shield!" A large pink bubble blipped in front of the window. A few seconds later Marco came flying through, hitting the bubble and stopping the force, with the bubble popping on impact.

Customers gasped and panicked, some looking outside to see the sky swirling into a bleeding red, with devils running amok and tearing apart bystanders outside.

"Crabs." Star cursed before looking at the scared customers. Some already creating a panic. "Okay everyone...can you all calm down? As disastrous as the situation looks...trust me it should be a lot worse outside...I think." She finished the last part with uncertainty.

Marco stood up uncomfortably with shards of glass falling out of his hair, and blood dripping from the side of his forehead. "Damn Devils. Can't have a day of peace in this city." He muttered under his breath.

People started to whisper all round, feeling uncomfortable now that Marco had appeared. Star looked around before spotting a quiet stranger sitting alone on a table at the corner of a shop. He was scribbling with precision on a small piece of paper, mumbling away.

Star looked at him for a bit with curious eyes, before walking towards his table. As she got closer, he noticed her and frantically stuffed the paper in his bag. Drinking his coffee like he had absolutely nothing on him.

"Hi!" Star chirped up happily, sitting on his table uninvited. "I saw you drawing! And I really like drawing! Do you like drawing?" He looked uncomfortable now, with the concerning amount of times she's said 'drawing' now.

"You're shy? Oh I get it! You're a Tsomuki right?"

He nodded slightly.

He had grey skin that blended perfectly with a dark pink hue on some parts of his face, a tiny rounded nose. His head was a small cloud that swayed a bit according to the wind, his eyes being hollow pockets of air. Of course there was no mouth.

"Oh...well no need to worry about the Devils outside Sir! We probably have everything under control! So try to have faith in us okay?" He looked at her for a bit, before giving her a thumbs up. She stared at him for a while, but suddenly her face turned serious, taking a deep, disappointing sigh.

"Danny....if you know you're gonna be here at least try to help. Or if you want to pretend to be a civilian, at least try to act normal!" She whispered angrily at him.

He stayed quiet for a while, then he chuckled a bit. Changing back to the familiar Danny we all know.

"Awwww. Did I ruin the little dipshit's work by existing?" Danny smirked, annoying as ever.
