Kara tried to discover everything at once, and when she found about a certain section in this place, she didn't just drift toward the zero-gravity zone.
she launched herself like someone fired a cannon indoors.
The moment the field flickered on, she kicked off the floor with both feet and shot upward.
"OH THIS IS AMAZING!"
She spun in midair, arms flailing like an ecstatic tornado.
Arthur didn't even blink.
With a lazy flick of two fingers, Ruler's Authority snapped around her ankle and stopped her upside-down mid-spin.
Kara dangled there like an annoyed bat.
"I had it under control," she said flatly.
Raven didn't look away from her drink.
"You were two seconds from head-butting the ceiling."
Kara crossed her arms still upside down and glared.
"Arthur, come float-dance with me."
"No."
"Wow. You're such a what's the Earth word?" She squinted. "A fun-hating cave troll."
Arthur released her slowly.
"I'll accept that."
She landed with fake grace, dusted herself off like she meant to do all of that, then immediately got distracted.
Her eyes widened.
Across the party room a dense crowd, shouting and cheering around a raised platform.
She gasped.
"Oh My GOD. They're arm-wrestling."
Before Arthur could form a syllable, she was already gone.
Raven blinked.
"Arthur… she's signing you up. I'm positive of that."
Arthur covered his face with one hand.
"I hate the fact that you might be right."
A moment later, Kara came sprinting back, breathless and glowing with excitement.
"Good news! You're next."
Arthur stared at her.
"You didn't take my consent..."
"I didn't need to. Look.." she pointed proudly at the prize table. "Win, and we get that glowing thing."
Raven studied it from across the room.
"That's food."
Arthur frowned.
"It doesn't look edible."
Kara shrugged. "I'll eat it."
Arthur stood reluctantly.
"Fine. I'll be back."
Raven smirked.
"Oh, this should be entertaining."
****
The first opponent was a four-armed rock creature,
He laughed the moment Arthur sat down, voice grinding like boulders.
"Tiny creature. You break like dust."
Arthur didn't respond.
He simply placed his elbow down and waited.
The signal was given.
Three seconds later, the rock monster's wrist slammed into the table so violently the metal bent inward.
Silence.
Then Kara's voice exploded across the room.
"THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!"
Raven clapped once, slowly.
"Surprising no one."
The next challenger waddled forward.
A tiny alien no taller than Arthur's knee.
Pink.
Smiling politely.
Arthur narrowed his eyes immediately.
They locked hands.
The match began.
Arthur pushed.
Nothing moved.
He actually blinked.
"…Interesting."
Kara whispered to Raven, horrified
"Is this allowed?"
"Yes," Raven said calmly.
Arthur increased pressure.
The tiny alien pushed back.
The table creaked.
Arthur stared at him, impressed for a moment, genuinely considering.
'…I could make him a shadow soldier.'
Then he gently pinned him.
The little alien bowed and waddled away proudly.
Kara cheered again.
Raven nodded.
"That one was adorable."
Then the final opponent stepped forward.
The Green Lantern from earlier.
He removed his ring and set it on the table, smirking.
"Don't worry. I won't use this. Wouldn't be fair."
Arthur rested his elbow.
"It's fine if you do."
The Lantern laughed.
"Confident, aren't you?"
Arthur didn't respond.
But the Lantern squinted suddenly.
"…Wait. I've seen you before."
Arthur shrugged.
"Can't say we've met."
The match started.
The Lantern gritted his teeth, pushing with everything he had.
Arthur didn't move an inch.
The ring on the table began to glow, reacting to its bearer's panic.
The Lantern hissed through clenched teeth.
"My damn ring...Just… cooperate..."
Arthur knew that the lantern was secretly using his power ring, so his own shadow ring pulsed once.
Soft and Invisible.
The Green Lantern's ring instantly went dead light snuffed out like a candle.
He stared at it in horror.
"…What."
Arthur spoke calmly.
"Your ring needs charging, it seems."
Kara punched the air.
"BREAK HIM, ARTHUR!"
Raven added, perfectly monotone
"Emotionally, not physically."
Arthur ignored both.
He slammed the Lantern's hand through the table with a single decisive movement.
The Lantern collapsed forward, groaning.
The crowd erupted.
Kara practically threw herself at Arthur, wrapping her arms around him.
"I KNEW YOU'D WIN!"
Raven stood behind them, arms folded.
"At least now we know those muscles aren't decorative."
A staff member handed Arthur the glowing prize.
He stared at it.
"…I'm still not eating this."
Kara snatched it and took a bite without hesitation.
"I said I would."
Kara took another triumphant bite of the glowing thing… whatever it was.
She chewed once.
Twice.
Her smile slowly died.
"I… don't feel that good."
Arthur didn't even turn his head.
"I did say it didn't look edible."
Kara blinked, swaying.
"I think I'm gonna..."
She slapped both hands over her mouth.
Raven calmly slid a trash bin toward her with telekinesis.
"Do it in there. Not on us."
Kara staggered off, mumbling something tragic in Kryptonian.
Arthur exhaled through his nose.
"This girl..."
But before he could take a single step, someone blocked his path.
A woman tall, elegant, skin shimmering like liquid silver.
Three eyes, all glowing gold.
Her voice purred like music.
"You fought magnificently," she said, breathlessly awestruck. "Such strength is… extremely attractive."
Arthur blinked.
Raven's drink froze midair.
The alien stepped closer, fingers brushing his arm.
"I would like to offer you a bonding ritual," she said softly. "A union of compatibility and power. You would be honored."
Arthur opened his mouth
Kara, despite being on the verge of vomiting, charged like a drunk missile.
"Oh HELL no..."
But Raven moved faster.
She grabbed Arthur by the collar, pulled him and kissed him.
Not a quick, polite one.
A full, deliberate, mine kiss.
Arthur stiffened, but he grabbed her as well.
The party hall went silent.
Even the music seemed to stop.
Raven pulled back slowly, looking directly at the three-eyed woman.
"Too late," she said calmly. "He's already claimed."
The alien froze.
"…oh."
The woman's eyes widened all three.
"My apologies," she said quickly, bowing. "I did not know he was… bonded already."
She backed away and disappeared into the crowd.
Arthur stared at Raven.
"…you realize you just threatened someone with romance."
Raven's cheeks flushed barely visible, but there.
"It worked," Raven then folded her arms.
"For your information, here in this planet, kissing someone means that bonding ritual she just mentioned already done. Completely. Irreversible."
Arthur leaned in slightly, voice low.
"But we did actually perform that ritual."
Raven's composure cracked instantly.
Her eyes widened and she looked away faster than her blush.
"I...I didn't mean... it's just... shut up."
Before Arthur could tease her further
Kara appeared in front of them.
Completely flushed.
Completely unsteady.
She pointed at both of them accusingly.
"We did… we did… all of us..." she repeated dramatically.
Arthur and Raven stared.
"Kara," Arthur said slowly, "are you drunk already? I think that thing you just ate is..."
Kara blinked at him, swaying.
"…maybe."
Raven covered her face with one hand.
"HOW did she... oh right.."
Kara raised her finger proudly.
"RED SUN! My home planet, you know... lovely times... lovely times.."
And immediately sat down on the floor like gravity betrayed her.
Arthur sighed and rubbed his temples.
"Fantastic. she's out of it."
Raven looked at him, deadpan.
"we should carry her."
Arthur looked at Kara snoring.
then at Raven, still flustered from the kiss
and finally accepted his fate.
"…I've survived demons, intergalactic power ring users and Kryptonians," he said quietly.
"But this may actually kill me."
Raven smiled just a little.
"You'll manage."
Kara suddenly sat up, pointed at Arthur in heroic declaration.
"YOU ARE MY FAVORITE HUMAN! My one... and only..."
Then passed out again.
Arthur stared.
Raven took a slow sip of her drink.
"…Bonding ritual complete," she murmured.
And Arthur had no comeback.
