Anastasia got to work the next day, just as the sun started warming the streets. Santiago had left earlier that morning, catching his flight back to Sydney.
She stood for a second at the entrance of the restaurant, taking in a deep breath.
"It's just another day, Ana. You can do this. You have to," she whispered to herself before stepping in.
As she walked in, she exchanged pleasantries with the staff. Her eyes met Irene's cold glare, but she didn't let it get to her.
Anastasia had already accepted that not everyone would like her. She had more important things to worry about, like earning money for her unborn baby and staying alive.
Once inside her tiny office, she set her bag down but immediately noticed something strange.
"Where's Garbi?" she murmured. It was unusual not to see him around this early.
She decided to look for him, walking through the hallway that led to the back of the restaurant. There, she found him sitting on a stool, staring out blankly.
