Fernando kept a stern look into Nicholas's eyes, a mischievous smirk tugging at the corner of his lips.
"Since you already know I met with Mason," he said calmly, "why don't you also tell me what we discussed?" His tone was flat, unreadable.
Nicholas didn't respond immediately. He sat still, trying to read Fernando's intentions. Something about this meeting felt heavier than usual.
"Unfortunately," Nicholas finally said, "I don't know what you two talked about. But I am curious.
Why are you still here with me? After meeting with Mason, why didn't you jump ship? Did he ask you to betray me?"
Fernando chuckled, but there was no humor in his voice.
"Of course he did. He wanted me to spy on you, feed him information, keep track of your every move."
"So? Are you doing that?" Nicholas asked bluntly. "Have you already started? What have you told him?"
"You hurt my feelings, Nicholas." Fernando's eyes narrowed. "You think I'm that cheap? That I'll flip because of a few threats?"
